do you respect police?

Im applying to the vancouver Police department and Luckily I got called Im going to OPC and will be stationed soon within 4-5 months My pay will be amazing. I will be far from home to.... that sucks tho but im probably gonna send some $$ home to my family. Im single so I guess that helps only paying food for myself and not 2-3 other kids and a wife.

My dad's a police officer and I know a few police officers, I respect them. But if you act like a prat then I won't, being a police officer changes nothing about the type of person you are.

Usually yes. But today there were some manifests at my country (Portugal) and the police abused of their force and start kicking ass. I didn't liked that one bit, so police's reputation on my scale has gone down.

Only relation I have with the Police is the local Chief who is my mom's best friend, she bakes me cakes and knit me socks so my impression couldn't be better and I definitely respect her hehe :)

why would i not respect them? of course there are bad cops. but you will find bad apples in every profession. there are doctors who kill their patients. so should we all avoid going to the doctors because some bad apples kill their patients? no. i find a lot of people who hate the police have done some criminal act or spend time in jail.helwa1988

Yes I do respect the police. The bad apples though almost ruin my respect for them though.

I respect the idea to protect and serve though. If they really are a cop because of that, then I respect their ideals.

I guess I do respect the profession because I don't want anarchy in the streets. There are way too many weirdos, thugs and murderers who need to be kept in check. This type of violent scum make police a necessary fact of life.

On the other hand, most individual cops I've come across have been arrogant, embittered losers -pigs who can't wait to bust you for half a joint or to give you a train fine and then smirk at you, pleased that they've ruined somebody's day. I guess it's an occupation that mainly attracts the type of people I don't normally get along with. Regardless, I have no choice but to support them in general.

some of them just join up for the power rush. here is an article on some hometown cops that admit they werent having their "finest hour" :lol: they went off duty to a bar and kicked the sh*t out of some drunk. i can only imagine conversation the cab driver had when he called 911. cabby: "four men are beating up a man outside the strange brew." operator: "we're on it."

still, the vast majority that ive met have been nice. for instance, the police department deployed an extra 200 cops on st. particks day to prevent drunk driving. my friend was driving to the bar (soberly) and there are at least a dozen things on his car that he could have a ticket for. about the only things he had that were legal were some registration stickers that he didnt put on yet. a cop pulled him over, but the officer knew that there were bigger problems than a crappy car. he slapped the stickers on for him and blocked traffic so he could leave.

Most of them, yes. It's often a thankless job as they are the face of authority. No one is going to like being told no.

Eh some. Like I've encountered cops who were polite and stuff:

Ex. me and my friend was skating in an abandoned grocery Stores loading dock and a cop asked us nicely to leave , I didn't have an issue with it. Why ? Well he wasn't a prick about it. We were like okay we'll leave once we get our stuff. We got our stuff. Left. No problem

Then I've encountered cops who were pricks:

Ex. me and my friend wanted to play basketball at a local school , we didnt have a hoop ourselves so we walked up there didn't even realize it was 2:15 , they got out at 2:55. Well we figured we walked like 5 miles we'll just bs around the school till they get out then go shoot hoops Like not on school property but in a lot across the street. . Well apparently we were "distracting classes" by dribbling the ball and being shirtless. Was asked to leave by one of the teachers (a former teacher of ours btw , who again was asking nicely , we had no problem leaving.) Well was figured we'll just leave the school view then come back well a cop stopped us and asked us to put our hands on our head. he put us in cuffs. We were confused as to why this was happening .We didnt do anything wrong. The school principle (who we've had problems with when we went to the school) called the state troopers saying we were streaking across the lot trying to cause disruption. This cop was an prick about it. Didn't ask us about what happened and was a d!ckhead. Assuming we were troublemakers. Now since he was being a prick for no reason , I myself have a hard time being disrespected like that so , I of course pissed himself more. But I wouldn't of had he not , slammed his brakes on in front of us , then disrespectfully treated me like a pos without even hearing what actually happened.

So do I respect cops ? If they show me respect ? Of course. No reason not to.

yes i respect the police. they put themselves in positions that the average person would run from. i've been arrested before, but i don't hold any hard feelings against cops because of it. they're just doing their job like anybody else. if you get a ticket or get arrested, it's your own fault, it's probably not the cop being an a-hole
