Every night.

He apologized, move on.

This is something the TC fails to understand.

I understand it, I just dont agree with it

Alright, just for you I watched the vid (I hadn't watched the actual vid before this but I watched the apology on Letterman). And I think it was totally uncalled for of him to drop the n-bomb the way he did, and the number of times he did it. He could've yelled at thim, or told him to **** off because he's heckling him when he's on stage, but the n-bomb wasn't necessary. But that doesn't mean you, me or any of us should just stop watching the show. Especially since he's not the main character, you still have Jerry Seinfeld or George Kastanza. If you actually liked the show the way most of us do, you wouldn't give up on it.

What Kramer said outside Seinfeld has nothing to do with the quality of Seinfeld, people really need to learn to seperate a celebrities personal life from their work. If you dont want Seinfeld because of Kramer do you also not watch any Polanski films because he raped an underage girl or do you not watch any Mel Gibson films because he said something bad as well? Please get off you high horse and enjoy their work without thinking of what the person said.

Mel Gibson still worked on that film, he was the director so by your flawed logic I dont think you should watch the passion either.

Sorry, I'm not a slave to the whole "stop the hate mongering" language police movement that seems to have permeated our culture.

I'll say whatever the hell I want, and I don't blacklist people just because they use words that the media tells me are "hateful" and "offensive".

*Goes to watch Seinfeld*

Oh no... one of the actors got caught being human (he got angry at someone heckling him and didn't keep his cool), that means its time to stop watching something they made in the past and is being replayed. Michael Richards isn't a racist, he's just a comedian who let go of his political correctness in a public place. Many black comedians use what Richards said as their entire routines... and just because they are the same "colour" means its "alright."

I like Kramer, I've never really paid much attention to anything Richards has done otherwise and don't plan to. Like Seinfeld, Alexander and Louis-Dreyfus, other than their roles on Seinfeld, they really haven't done much worth paying attention to.foxhound_fox

Honestly, I've never heard a black comedian angrily scream at a black audience member, "forty years ago we would have had you hanging from a tree with a pitchfork up your ass!"

Sorry, but that sort of crosses the line separating political incorrectness from racism.

So really...give me some EXAMPLES of well-known black comedians talking about killing white audience members. It's easy to say "every black comedian does the same thing", but I'd like someone to back this up with EXAMPLES.

Anyway, I don't watch Seinfeld anymore. Not because of the racism thing, but because I don't watch TV that much now and I don't know when the Seinfeld gets shown on TV. But if I were aware of when it was shown, and I was watching TV at that time, and there wasn't anything I'd rather watch in that same timeslot, then I WOULD still watch it. But I don't.

Is he a true racist or just spews bad words like many people that I know that aren't racist? Frankly I don't watch Seinfeld and it wouldn't matter to me either way but there is a big difference between saying some BS and being an actual racist.

[QUOTE="p2rus"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]Most of the racial jokes in black comedies, if a white person said anything like them about a black person, the show would be torn off the air and the network fined. I_pWnzz_YoU
Most of the racial jokes i see in black shows are... nonexistant. I dont hear racial slurs and anger on black shows. your trying to change the argument into a discussion on double standards. That would be your agenda. However, its not that complicated. I won't watch your show and I won''t listen to your material if you verbally assault someone and scream derogatory epithets at them!

It was a minor slip up. It's the only time he's done something like that and he apologized for it later. Not watching the show because of something so small as that is just idiotic.

 What was he gonna do, NOT apologize for it?

He was pretty much washed up at the time anyway, and NOT apologizing would have been CERTAIN death for his career.

Not that I'm saying that his apology wasn't genuine. Here's the thing...if you accept that his apology was genuine and sincere, then you ALSO have to accept that he was being genuine and sincere when, during his apology, he stated that he had racial issues that he had to work on resolving.

I don't see why people have such a need to DEFEND the guy. HE admitted that he crossed the line, HE admitted that he had racial issues that he needed to resolve, and I can still enjoy his performance in Seinfeld even though I'm black, and what he said was TOTALLY racist against blacks. And he also deserved EVERY BIT of backlash that he got.

I don't hate the guy, and I don't think that he's a closet KKK member out to get destroy the blacks. But that doesn't mean that he's not a racist. And yes, Mel Gibson is an anti-semite even if he sometimes makes great movies. If he makes a great movie and keeps his anti-semitism OUT of his movie, then I'll probably watch his next movie if the subject matter interests me. But I can certainly UNDERSTAND if a jewish person boycott's Mel's movie on general principle. Similarly, if Michael Richards stars in a movie, I'm willing to watch it if it's GOOD (which is unlikely considering that his standup material sort of sucked and most of the movies and TV shows he's been in have been crap), and if he keeps his racism OUT OF THE MOVIE. But that's not very likely to happen. He pretty much killed his career. He's not coming back any time soon, for good reason. What he said WAS horrible, the backlash against him was 100% justified, and that's no one's but Michael Richards' fault.

WHY try to defend the guy? It WASN'T supposed to be a joke. And if it WAS supposed to be a joke, then he failed so badly at it that he deserves to get banished from the comedy scene purely based on how unfunny his material is. I'm not saying that he's a bad guy, or that I wouldn't hang out at the bar with him, but those were purely angry racist and hateful comments. Worse, they weren't racist comments made after getting pulled over for being drunk, they were comments made DURING his job. He actually said that **** DIRECTLY to his audience WHILE he was performing. It's not even just that Michael Richards is a racist. It's that people were paying him money to see him do a comedy act, and then end up paying him money to STOP performing a comedy act and instead go off on an angry hateful anti-black tirade.

So yeah...Seinfeld is still funny. And yeah...I don't hate the guy and would probably watch him again as long as he were starring in something that I'm interested in. But there's no defense for the dude. None whatsoever.

There's BEING a racist and NOT being a racist, and ACTING like a racist and NOT ACTING like a racist.

The thing is, racism depends on thoughts. You can not tell by looking at a person whether or not they are racist. All that anyone can do (in the majority of cases) is determine that someone is ACTING like a racist.

I mean sure, I might join the Ku Klux Klan. But maybe it's not that I AM a racist, but maybe it's just that I lack a sense of belonging and am so lonely that I am willing to join a racist community just to have some sense of fraternity. But considering that the KKK is a RACIST organization, joining the KKK is an ACT of racism. You can join the KKK and not BE a racist. But if you join the KKK, you are ACTING like a racist.

And when I find out that my best friend is a member of the KKK, it's not gonna mean much when he says "oh, I'm not REALLY a racist, I only joined the KKK because they all get together on the weekends and play Scrabble tournaments".

I CAN'T see people BEING racist because I can't read minds. I CAN, however, see people ACTING racist.

I think they were wrong to say the things they said, but they were not exactly in their best moments when they said them.

(Mel was drunk and Michael Richards was being heckled at a stand-up show)

I know those are poor excuses, but when people are on the edge, things are said that shouldn't have been said.

I don't think they are racists.

The personal qualities of an actor do not take away from a show/movie as long as they don't have those offensive qualities in the show/movie, so yes, I would be watching Seinfeld still if I liked it. But I don't like it.

Don't even try the "free speech" thing. Free speech is what kept him from getting ARRESTED. But the comedy club exercised THEIR free speech by banning him, and the media exercised their free speech by tearing the guy apart. If RICHARDS had such a problem with other people exercising THEIR free speech as a reaction to HIS free speech, then he shouldn't have said what he said.

I'd still like to see ONE PERSON actually post some EXAMPLES of a black comedian saying something similar to what Michael Richards said. Because I see a LOT of people saying stuff like "black comedians say that kind of stuff all the time and no one cares", but I don't see ANYONE actually backing that up with EXAMPLES.
