Do you support Israel's right to exist?

I certainly do, I'm of Jewish descent myself and while I don't support everything the Israili government/miltary does (like the blockade ect..) I still believe they have the right to their own country. Now I love America and if Israel would ever go to war with the United States I would fight on the side of the US.

People cry about how weJews stole the land from the palestinians/arabs, but they are better off now with us there IMO. Israel is the only REAL democracy in the Middle East and it doesn't kill women for walking around without a viel.It atleastvalues human rights, go over to Iran and say your a Jew, Christian, Athiest, American, Woman, or non extreamist Muslim and they will cut your head off. Or gun you down with an AK...

Israel doesn't target civilain aeras either, but unfortunately they do kill them. I don't pretend however that Israel is entirely innocent and in many cases they are just as guilty, as they have killed innocent people before. But I don't think they are going out of their way to nesseccarilydo it (again doesn't make it right), also the Israel is just defending it'self, they arn't trying to take over any of the arab lands. It's just one small country who happens to have neighbors that hate it and want to drive them into the sea.

But people hating those of us who are ofJewish descent is nothing new unfortunately...

It is a complex situation, however the hatred on both sides will eventually fade away. See right now the Orthodox Jews run Israel (they are the more religious jews) but they're kids are moving more into less...how do I say...."strict" religous groups and want peace. It's only a matter of time before the younger generation overthrows the current.

Hell there are alot of athiests in Israel believe it or not, some Jews are secular (non relgious) and are just ethnically Jewish and practice parts of the Jewish culture.

I accept Israel's right to exist. I am not happy with how the history turned out. As an Arab we lost territory over someting that happened to a people in Europe. Yet we paid the price.

I don't hate anyone because of their descent or religion.

Am for a justified peace plan, not a one sided one. A compromise that people will inevitably **** about being unfair to their side, but in the end people can live with. Most importantly a sustainable Palestine.

As for the rest of your comments on the Middle East i'll hold my breath, I am optimistic in that Israel will not be the only democracy in the Middle East for long.

As a Hebrew I can understand with what your saying, I don't hate anyone who is Arab or anything (we are actually related)

What needs to happen is the relgious fundalmentalists need to be replaced so younger generations can take over and push towrad peace.

I don't support anything. I try to remain neutral on this issue. If I feel that the issue will hurt me in some way then maybe I will take a side. But right now, it isn't my business and I'm not willing to go out of my way to help one side or the other.

I think in retrospect it may not have been the wisest choice to create Israel as a nation in the first place, but now that they're well established it doesn't make sense to get rid of them. I do take serious issue with a lot of their policy though...chessmaster1989

I don't see any issue Jews having a home of their own, however being Jewish is different than being any other ethnic group. There arn't really any places where we are truly safe, and Israel is NOT very safe. But I still think they have a right to exist, but yes I agree that I don't support all of thier policies...

:| How ar ethey anti semites? They could be against Israel for reasons other than the fact its a Jewish state.. Many see it as a poster child of modern day imperialism.. Many people lost their homes in past wars within Israel, but feel that the lands are still theirs because they were taken from them unjustly..

Jews were not fighting for Israel for the right to exist.. They did so for the right to govern their own land, which began in the late 1800s.... This is completely ignoring the fact that they uprooted direclty and indirectly another far larger population that to this day could be classified as homeless living in shanty towns and what not.. The fact of the matter is Israel's government has been hardline and has been extremely aggressive.. The only thing I would support is the US pulling all support from Israel, including UN protection inless they get out of the West Bank and have a two state solution.. Among other such things..

My thoughts exactly. I took a course last semester called "Politics and History of the Middle East" and it reaffirmed my understanding that the history of the whole region is incredibly complex and not simplistic as some portray it.

Should the nation have been created in the first place? Perhaps, in hindsight, not such a good idea. However, telling an entire country to pack up their bags and leave isn't exactly a tenable position by any stretch of the imagination. That said, they could tone it down a little with the military. They're not going to be wiped out by anyone in the region by being less trigger happy. They, unlike their neighbors, have a modern military -- and no one can really f*** with them on an existential level. Hell, they might even piss a few less people (i.e. cause less motivation for violent opposition) off if they more carefully pick their targets.
