But Marriage is a Christian tradition, and an oath under God.

Shade-Blade

Q: so you can't be married if you aren't Christian?

Yeah, what sup with that? I think everyone should have the right to marry, not just christians just because its a tradition for you guys.

Isnt birth control a sin to christians?I really dont like that religion, I dont like any religion. Id rather be a satanist than a christian

I dont like religion neither, men and woman will die, fight, and kill each other for religion.

It should be voted on by the states. The federal government is way too powerful already.

Frankly, I don't care. If a vote came up tomorrow in my state, I would vote no simply because I don't want this to just become the gay state. Violence would skyrocket.

guynamedbilly

Like Massachusettes? Or maybe Canada? South Africa? Czech Republic?

I don't think it would be as bad as you think.

Maybe you'd understand if you knew where I live. Tennesee... Heck, within 1 hours drive you can get to the house of the leader of the KKK(at least in the 90s) or go to a state park dedicated to Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Well obviously it's not going to be something that can happen overnight. I would like to think that we are making progress as a society as a whole though. These kinds of people are becoming more of a minority. It's going to be a slow change, but I think it will be coming.

thats what I am saying. It doesnt matter at all, it just legalizes a commitment and puts restrictions on the couple, like leaving. I am married but my marriage is a commitmentwith Godnot the law. It is legal though but that means nothing to me, in the end I dont answer to the government. That is just how I view it.

Not necessarily. My parents were married non-religiously by a judge. I don't understand why gay marriage can't be legalized, but religious institutions simply not marry gay couples... that baffles me.

That is nota good reason to get married. You can claim others on your taxes, you can allow others to visit you in the hospital, and you have legal rights, you need to prearrange these things.

I support a partnership. Marriage is an oath under God. And according to the Bible gay marriage shouldnt be. Sooo partnership not marriage. its that simple.Deathxcore

indeed, marriage is gift from god, if you don't believe in god, or live a life that is contradictory then why would expect god to accept your marriage..

that fact that marriage in modern society has been reduced to ink on paper, just goes to show how much people in generalhave abandonned god.. but really if thats your view of marriage, being just ink on paper, then why would you want to take part in such a meaningless activity

in short, no i don't support batty boy marriages, you can talk about howpeople cant control their feelings all you want.. and that may be true, but they still made a choice to act on those feelings, and then they made a choice to make their private business known to the public... and if thats your choice, then you need to accept that theres certain things you shouldn't have, marriage is one of them

Well, in defence of the religious, if gay marriage was supported by the rest of the country and not supported by members of the religious community, they would eventually be sued or jailed for discrimination.

I mean, what do you think would happen if a pastor said that he would never marry non-caucasion couples... If he wasn't murdered, it would be a very difficult life.

So what you're saying is that since you are straight, and you decided to act on those feelings, and you decided to make your personal business public, that you have more of a right than anyone who is gay to get married. Are you saying that you are on the side of "Straight Supremacy" then??? In this day and age, it is only appropriate to realize that because our mission is not merely to reproduce to maintain our genetic code, marriage should not strictly be administered only to woman and man. It should be a right given to the people, for everybody to celebrate, and not only limited to those that have the instinct to be with those of the opposite sex.

I always assumed marriage was supposed to be a commitment with your spouse. Silly gullible me.guynamedbilly

He makes a valid point. No matter what, the person you should be most committed to is your spouse. God, if you choose not to, should play no role in marriage. We shouldn't let the Pope dictate our lives and how we live it. Marriage is a rite of passage that all should be able to go through. If the government does not recongnize homosexual couples then it ceases their equality in the world. It also sends a new message of morality and the way many think. Not only do they lose benefits but they lose their rights. Something that is given to all, or should be given to all. In a age of progression and with a history of discrimination (not only the US but the world) I would think people would accept homosexuals; sadly this is not the case.

While I respect all religions, I believe we have a RIGHT to choose. We are NOT all Christians.

You're talking about two different things here...religious vs civil. You can't force pastors to marry people.

I support it, because it shouldn't be about religion that people can't be happy. That's like saying athesists can't get marriedmtcoola

This is the biggest fallacy of this argument....not all people that are anti gay are religious.

Not legally maybe, but you can sue them because they don't.

[QUOTE="UssjTrunks"]Hell no. Ghey people are the reason millions of innocent children die every year from AIDS. Give them marriage and other morons will ask for extendedrights as well. Tomorrow we'll make rape a legal act.UssjTrunks

Well I don't really support gay marriage, but I really don't have anything against it either.

If the church doesn't want to marry a gay couple that's their business, but if the county office doesn't want to issue a marriage license because of religious beliefs that's pretty effed up and clearly not a seperation of church and state.
