I like the "animals are life, plants are life" argument. No matter what, we can't escape destroying life for sustenance. Unless of course we live off dairy like some sadhus in India purportedly do.foxhound_fox
And even than, there are those who find it morally wrong to eat ANYTHING that is from animals.

Depends what you mean by right. The best/most efficient use of resources? Hell, no. Is it wrong in the sense that it's immoral to harm animals? Debatable, but it doesn't really bother me.

Meat is Murder as Morrissey has said many a time before.

But it sure tastes good.

And those would be the sadhus that purportedly can survive without consuming anything. Which of course couldn't happen, given the human body requires the intake of caloric energy in order to sustain itself. Unless of course (as they claim) they receive energy from another "source."

It's how we treat the animals to get our meat. Given, animals hunt one another out there, but even then, their way to get their food is less cruel than the companies that we own.

However, eating meat is not "wrong". I assume that we eat meat to gain sufficient nutrients and the like. That's why other animals eat other animals... To help sustain themselves. Yes, it sounds selfish but we were born with a stomach, that needs a few different things and meat happens to be one of the most efficient ways to obtain such elements, for a reason. We were obviously meant to eat each other.

Technically, we could eat one another... It may be more productive if we did... We're not going to become extinct any time soon and we are facing an over population problem--Eating the 'freshly dead' would provide more space for things... We are, in the end, a 'natural resource'. Odd how we have a superiority complex that makes us believethat we are not qualified to be used as a resource (arguable... Slaves were used for personal gain but, back then, they weren't considered as "a person"). But, no, that's sick because society says so.

And, really...

Many people, both religious and non religous, believe that eating meat is morally wrong.

I for one believe that we have the power and right to manipulate them into a source of vital nutrients, as the superior species of this world.

And you, OT?

LiftedHeadshot

"Superiority Complex" always ends in one way and one way only: sh*t

Meat contains many important minerals and vitamins we need in order to remain healthy, that said it is up to each individual to eat what they want. But I don't condone of forcing one's belief down others throats.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it - the only part that is a bit disturbing is how removed we are from the killing and packaging of it - how all we see is the nice slab of meat. Not that I want to go out hunting my own steaks, but I think giving a little more thought to where all this food is coming from, or how it got there, is not such a bad idea. I like the idea of being vegan, but it's the not eating meat part I can't maintain. I likez teh meatz.

It sucks for the animals that have to grow up in cages and spend their entire lives suffering in horrible living conditions. I don't think any life should have to suffer for it's entire lifespan then ultimately cease to exist - but unfortunately that's the way the world works. Nothing I can do to change that so I instead try not to think about it too much.

And yes I eat meat - mostly because that's the lifestyle I'm accustomed to and I can't be bothered to change.

The bible describes eating too much meat as lustful. Too much meat is not healthy for the body because it increases testosterone thus increasing sex drive and also makes the body vulnerableto various sources of infections.

However what I don't understand is that if God didn't want us to eat meat then why on earthwould he make animals out of meat?

[QUOTE="ProjectTrinity"]If eating meat is wrong, so is eating plants. They both are alive, after all. The point of nature is to fight or become a meal so other species can survive. I think the "morals" thing comes from people who forgot how nature runs things.GabuEx

Kinda depends on who you are. Plants are (mostly) all peaceful and live and let live; they don't need to deprive others of sustenance to survive. It's only we animals who for whatever reason felt we had to be jerks to everyone as a part of life. :P

Yea but without the predator-prey relationship we wouldn't be here. Anyways we basically "grow" our meat, its a renewable resource. Pigs, cow, and chicken aren't going extinct anytime soon.

Eating animal is wrong for the environment and, in a distant future, I think we will have to stop eating meat. Don't forget that 1 hectare give 50kg of meat, while this same hectare will give 1 tonne of potatoes. This is why eating meat is so rare in India for example, the gouvernment prefer to help the farmers to produce fruits and vegetable and use the religion and publicity to make vegetarism more socially acceptable.

Anyway, for now, let's enjoy it:

Natural yes but immoral, slightly. Nature doesnt provide us with much alternative and long term vegetarianism is not healthy. I dont believe a cow would consent to being mutilated either and most people wouldnt consider it moral to eat their own pets or kill what they eat so it becomes immoral hypocrisy. We should be sharing the land with nature not eating it. The necessity cancels out immorality because its neede to survive but there are exceptions so i cant say that its 100% moral but mostly moral.

Unless of course vertical farming takes off and leaves he traditional farm styIe in the distant past. Flat-land farming for either meat or vegetables/fruit is completely non-sustainable, as the need will very quickly outweigh the production of the entire surface of the planet.

I don't know if I would exactly say right, but for current purposes it will do, no I don't think it's right. I think it's not a necessity, we can get along fairly well without it, and in many cases excessive consumption is actually detrimental to our health, so I don't really see the reason. That being said, I have personally acquired a taste for blood and I can't go back, I at least try to avoid eating pork. Whereas chickens and cows are very low-functioning animals, pigs are highly intelligent,I feel a little worse eating them.

Of course I do. Animals taste too damn good for it not to be right.

Very, very right. As I chew on a tender morsel of steak or gently carve off a piece of ham or watch a slice of bacon sizzle furiously in the pan, I take comfort in the knowledge that an animal has given itself to the greater good - a donation to my tastebuds.

Yes

If your christian/jewish then you think its right cause god in the old testament gave man the right to eat meat then paul gave further instruction on what meat to it in the new testament.

If your non-religious then its survival of the fittest. Do you really think that if tigers and bears had guns they wouldn't try to eat you?

No, it's not wrong, it's nature. Animals eat other animals, too, and us humans ARE animals.

If you do not like to eat animals, then that is a personal choice and an understandable one, but for those that like eating meat, they are not doing any wrong by doing so.

Since right and wrong do not objectively exist, it's about as right as cannibalism. Social acceptability-wise, it is right unless if it's eating a pet.

Yes. Most animals eat other animals to survive. Though we can substitute, I still enjoy eating the real thing. Only wrong I see is when humans cultivate other animals at a large production to be slaughtered. I know that's how we are able to survive, I still don't like the method...
