[QUOTE="worlock77"]

[QUOTE="Serraph105"] I got asked to show ID to vote this year. I live in Indiana where the Voter ID law passed.Serraph105

And what did you pay for this ID?

well let's see, since I presented my driver's licence so to obtain that I first needed a learners permit which costs nothing, then I went through drivers-ed which did cost something (though I don't remember what), then I took the test which I don't remember it costing anything.
My licence lasts for five years which according to thiscosts $19.50, and since I had to renew it for proper information due to recently moving there was an additional $10 fee.

And this is the crux of the issue (not being lazy or stupid as LiquidAjax believes). Photo IDs cost money. Requiring a photo ID to vote then amounts to a poll tax. Poll taxes are prohibited under the 24 Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Technically any state that requires any kind of ID in order to vote is suppose to offer that ID free of charge.

also the cost of time both in getting my voter registration renewed because again I had recently moved, and the time it took to go to two different places to vote. They had not gotten my registration processed as of yet, and I had to go to the courthouse because they were apparently the only ones equipped to get my registration processed.

You're really stretching here. It's stupidity and laziness. If you can't get an ID which you SHOULD HAVE ANYWAYS then you're too stupid to survive in this world. Catering to the stupid is killing this country.

Personally I'm cool with using the constitution in this way because what I believe is not decided by a bunch of from a couple hundred years ago. That being said I'm willing to admit it.

That being said if we feel the constitution is wrong we should work to amend it rather than just ignoring the law whenever we feel like it.

The 24th Amendment was added to the Constitution in 1964, not 1791.

Not that there is any real evidence to support your statement, but as others have said, if you make the ID's available for free then it will become a sound proposal from a standpoint of the constitution.

Voter fraud is a non-issue, some people are trying to convince you that it's a mountain when in reality it is no more than a bump on the ground. And considering how easy it is to forge IDs I seriously doubt such a requirement would prevent someone who was really determined to commit voter fraud.

Georgia has a voter ID law and provides photo IDs for free and even have a bus to go from county to county where residents can go pick one up. It is better than using a utility bill to show that you are a resident, which was all that was required previously.

[QUOTE="LiquidAjax"][QUOTE="sSubZerOo"]Its really hilarious that people can be so stupid in trying to make voter fraud out to be a big deal.. It isn't.. Its like stealing mail.. The consequences for your actions are far too great to outweigh any of the advantages you could ever get.. You would have to commit fraud at such a large scale furthermore to even have an effect.. The only thing of serious note in this election was the disenfranchising of numerous voters in stopping this boggeyman of voter fraud.worlock77

Simply having an ID is not disfranchising. When did our country become so stupid that it cannot follow simple rules that have been set up for a long time?

What rules would that be? 17 years of voting I've never once been asked to show an ID to vote.

That's 17 years of sloppiness.

Not really. Each polling place has a list of registered voters in that precinct. You go in, state your name and the list is checked. You're handed your ballot and your name is crossed off their list. Sure, I suppose anyone could go in and vote using your name if you haven't voted already, but that would be pretty pointless.

You're not getting the point. Photo IDs cost money, doesn't matter how small the amount may be, they cost. Requiring a photo ID to vote then amounts to a poll tax. This is prohibited under the Constitution. That is what people object to, not the idea of requiring an ID in and of itself.

Nah Romney was just a terrible candidate. During the recession, why the GOP ran a multimillionaire from a wealthy family with accounts in the Cayman Islands and a paltry tax rate is beyond me. Plus he was creepy.

Yes it can be if your state's office is a significant distance away and you depend soley on public transportation to get any where.. Especialy if your eldarly.. You can't defend this sh!t when Republicans have actually SAID right before the election period that these were to suppress votes.. The Republicans are not just crazy any more, they are so blantant they don't even try to claim its because of something else.. I am all for ID's for every one if they were free and the services would help the people who cannot reach their office or have other barriers.. But their motion was clearly TO STOP people from voting, based on a figure that is so small that to even consider it a concern is laughable..
