Do you think you're already paying your fair share, or do you perhaps think you should be patriotic and give a little more? I think I pay enough.

I make several times more than my parents but pay less % in taxes because my money comes from annuities and dividends.
Yes, I should be paying more. It's a joke.
I could probably get by paying even less if I felt like looking for every tax break I can hide behind.

call them and let them know you want to pay more or you can sent the moneys to me and ill make sure they recieve it :)
Government nickles and dimes families to much in my opinion. Especially since the economy is so bad that I had to find a new minimum wage job after losing my construction job.
Besides, they would waste the tax revenue anyway. They are a bunch of incompetent a holes that should lower their paychecks and pay more taxes themselves. Some of them just don't pay taxes at all. Government is the main reason for America's problems, why should I trust them to do what's right with more taxes?
Tax revenue isn't the problem, we could send all the money every single American makes to Government and it still wouldn't pay off our debt. We don't have a revenue problem, ITS A GOVERNMENT SPENDING PROBLEM.

It's sickening that hard-ass working people have to pay more of their income (by %) than people who are set by letting their money work for them. It's not right. Why should I get to sit around on my ass all day making mucho bucks and flipping a few pennies here and there to Uncle Sam when some men work 8-16 hours a day and have to put up a good chunk of their pay?
Yeah I worked hard to get where I am, but now that I'm here that doesn't negate my duty to society.
And to answer your question, I not only do a good bit of volunteer work, but I spend more money on charities and just straight-up "here, I know you need this" than I spend on monthly bills. The problem with giving it to Uncle Sam isn't the intent, as I agree with social saftey nets for those who really can't help themselves, but the bureaucracy will eat up 3/4th of every dollar I send before it even gets put to use.
Yeah I just imagine the feds with cocaine and hookers in tijuana with my tax money.Government nickles and dimes families to much in my opinion. Especially since the economy is so bad that I had to find a new minimum wage job after losing my construction job.

OT's liberatarians have convinced me that paying taxes is wrong, and that the US government has no idea what to do with the money it collects.
/sarcasm
I would be glad to pay a little more in teaxes if it means helping others get healthcare, improve infrastructure, lower the debt, etc.
Please explain how. I don't want to pay more taxes because I don't want to fund unnecessary wars, government welfare programs, and bailouts for failing companies. I would say that this thread makes the liberal majority here look like fools, considering that 79% of OT thinks the government should provide free healthcare, while only 17% think they should pay more taxes.TC is such a fool he doesn't realize his thread/OP is the very reason his political philosophy, especially his personal view on taxation, is absurdly broken.

Please explain how it is not foolish to think the government should provide "free" healthcare for everyone, and yet be opposed to paying increased taxes despite that fact that we are having ~1 trillion dollar deficits every year.[QUOTE="br0kenrabbit"]Then why don't you pay more?I make several times more than my parents but pay less % in taxes because my money comes from annuities and dividends.

Please explain how it is not foolish to think the government should provide "free" healthcare for everyone, and yet be opposed to paying increased taxes despite that fact that we are having ~1 trillion dollar deficits every year. For one, you're using shock numbers, we could run up the defecit by a decent amount more than we are and still be at an acceptable amount as a percentage of GDP. Two, the title is asking if they individually should pay more taxes, which could mean they believe people who earn more than them should pay more taxes. Three, the amount of people who voted no surely includes conservatives who dislike paying current tax rates and would disagree with single-payer healthcare. Four, one of the major inefficiencies in government is rising health care costs, which a non for profit system could help address. Five, taxation is at its lowest rates in decades and could easily be raised to pay for a single-payer system without causing major economic problems.
Please explain how it is not foolish to think the government should provide "free" healthcare for everyone, and yet be opposed to paying increased taxes despite that fact that we are having ~1 trillion dollar deficits every year.LaihendiLet the government figure it out. It's not our responsibility.

You can still pay more, regardless.

Well, going by you're made up statistic, 1/4 will still be used. So, by paying more in taxes, you are still helping.
Inefficient government spending in no way disallows you from sending the state more money. Why don't you do it?thegerg
I just told you why.
Have you ever filed taxes? Do you know what they do when you overpay your taxes? What the hell do you think people get excited for around April?
If I sent extra money in to the IRS and told them to keep it, they can't just add it to my 'account' and pass it along as tax income. It'd go in as an overpayment and I'd be refunded. If I didn't cash the check I'd have a balance on my next years taxes. Have you any idea how these things work?
If they actually raised taxes on my bracket, then we're good to go.

That's not how you donate money. You basically write a check to the Treasury. And yes, people do it every year.
