Hello. Even though MP3's are here to stay (at least until a better digital format become mainstream) There is something that MP3's will never be able to replace something that only CD's or sweet delicious vinal can provide. I'm talking about things like Large CD cover art, Booklets, and promotional material.

Plus CD's would often have lyric sheets and special hidden material such as hidden tracks or even video or interviews if you would put it into a PC.

I love my MP3's and my i-pod as well but I will always love opening a plastic case that I found after hunting it dwon in the basement level of my favorite record store hearing that click as i opened it and the aroma that the booklets had. I miss seeing the group photos of Marilyn Manson or the surreal cover art of Nine Inch Nails.

I miss the hands on feel and the extras included. thoughts? One thing I don't miss is CD players good riddance

Yes. Most of the music on my I-Pod is either from CD or vinyl.

I buy the cd, then rip it to iTunes, then put it on my Ipod. Unless its just 1 song, then I download and put it on there.

Majority of my library I have from CDs. Though when I do download, I try to have the physical copy as soon as I can possibly get it.

I like to collect vinyls and CDs. Any time I'm in the city I'll look for some used CDs to play in my car or put into my computer. I go to my local record exchange for vinyls when ever I have extra cash. I also like MP3s too for their convenience for when I want to listen to something right away.

lol WAV? duud.. if you want the best lossless u need FLAC.. the only use audiophines have for WAV is to convert cd's to WAV and then LAME V0 MP3 .. i suggest you get exact audio copy.. FLAC encoder.. and spend some time on hydrogenaudio forums

CDs are nice, but almost never worth the extra money I'd have to pay. And most the artist Id care to purchase CDs from, they are nearly impossible to find. Also, most things I download I end up not liking and deleting. So, for the most part, I just stick to torrents. Downloading some obscure emocore albums right now.

I mainly buy jpop cd's, mostly idol stuff (haha *shame*). I'm really a sucker for nicely designed packages, the limited editions are awesome most of the time. Like I pre-ordered the best-of cd of Tommy February6, it comes in a special glittering packaging + DVD + Stickers + A5 photo booklet + binder + 10 clear files. How can I possibly resist that.

What kind of headphones do you have? On my regular zune ones I could hear a different between WMA( windows version of FLAC) and 128k mp3's, but it wasn't huge

meh. there should really be more incentives for CDs. You're paying a big premium( sometimes 50 to 100 percent more) just for a physical copy. you should get some more things like commentary from the band members and maybe some other creative stuff( creative, not gimmicky :P)

are you using itunes 320? or something like that.. if your not using LAME with a program like exact audio copy.. then your mp3's wont sound optimal.. the hardcore audiophiles at hydrogenaudio forums agree that V0 MP3 ( variable 256 kbps ) is transparent, some argue V2 even is.. and agree that 320 even is for the hardcore that just want to know they have high bitrate.. you can use abx tests to see if you really hear the difference or just think you do.

I haven't bought a CD in a long time, but I still buy them every once in a while despite the fact that I do own an mp3 player. I too miss the hands on feel of CDs, but I don't miss the bulk of lugging around a bunch of CDs and a CD player.

I try to avoid CDs, since whenever I buy one it always bugs me to think what a waste it is, especially since I'll just rip it onto my computer and never use it again.

wellof course you can tell the diff between flac and 128 ... 128 is horrible.. transparent ( cant hear the difference ) MP3 is V0 ( variable 256 , the general consensus of hardcore private music trackers) and 320kbps ... which is fading out now because V0 has become very sophisticated and has pretty much the same quality but 25% less space because it dosnt allocate file size to parts of songs that dont need it ( like begginings of songs that are silent or parts where only one instrument is playing) all this using LAME mp3 codec of course, if you import with itunes, you wont get the same results.

wrong it was 128 AAC ( aka MP4) which at lower bitrate is much better sounding than mp3.. now they use 256 AAC on new stuff and are redoing some old stuff to it. 256 AAC sounds very close to 320 Mp3... so itunes quality unless your an audiophile.. is pretty darn good right now
