I don't know why, but it really does annoy me. Maybe because I'm one of those few guys that still believes in the whole idea of being a proper gentleman and everything. I see wearing a hat indoors as lacking a proper idea of how to show oneself.

Maybe I'm going to far. But it really does annoy me to see people at school wearing their stupid baseball hats backwards in the hallways.

What do you think of wearing hats indoors?

I have this douche at my gym that's jacked outta his mind and wears sunglasses inside, and I was like "Wow, what a Jersey Shore douche bag" and then I saw him take em off and he's cross-eyed, talk about compensating.

Uh-huh.

Still don't get it.

No, I don't really care. Sometimes people wearing hats don't want to leave it anywhere so there might as well keep it on their head.

It ain't perfect but it's nothing major, those faux gangsta hats are far worse offenders of hat etiquette if worn inside and out.

It's essentially like asking "Can I come in?" if you don't take your hat off you've essentially burst in without asking.

No it wouldn't, it's the same as how people don't take their hats off in train stations

Somewhat. It depends. If it's one of those baseball caps,

I don't really see a good enough reason to wear them indoors. They aren't good looking and their only function is to keep direct sunlight at bay.

But if you're talking about something like a coif,

Used to keep your head warm, or something like a top hat,

to add elegance and cl@ss to the room, I'm fine with it as well.

Sunglasses indoors are the pinnacle of douchiness, though.

People who wear hats while sitting down for a meal indoors make me want to scream. There is no reason for it. If you're walking in and out of your own home, don't bother taking your hat off, but if you're inside sitting for a meal anywhere, especially in a restaurant, take it the hell off. Don't just turn it around, take it off or I will excuse myself from the table, walk around, snatch it off and slap you in the face with it.

I can see your point if it's at a really fancy restaurant...but at a Subway or something I really don't understand why it matters.

JML897
I don't sit down at subway, or mcdonalds, or other places like that, so I didn't include those. I don't count those as restaurants, but if I were to stop in and have my full meal there, I would likely take my hat off anyway. If you go to a restaurant where there are people who come to take away your plates, where a meal actually comes on plates, not wrapped in paper or in a cardboard container, take your hat off. I don't care if you're sitting at Denny's or Le Fancy French Chateau. If your food comes on plates, you have a server or somebody who collects your plates when you're done (buffets), and especially if it's a sit-down place where you're expected to tip the service, your hat needs to come off. When you're sitting down at a place where one might have conversation over a leisurely eaten meal rather than fast food where it is to be wolfed down because you can't drive and eat, it's just polite to take your hat off. Unless you have cancer and want to keep your beanie on, that's cool with me, but ball caps and anything else should be off.

Let me just be clear, I'm not going to walk over to another table and force my personal politeness views on other people, but if anybody I am sitting with thinks it's polite to do that, I will say something about it. I don't force my personal views on strangers, lol. I went to dinner with somebody about six months ago who wouldn't take his hat off in the restaurant. We are the same age and it made him look like a child, because he absolutely refused to remove his coat or hat. It wasn't particularly cold out, either, and the restaurant was warm. I can't even put into words the amount of cringing I was doing. I just see it as basic manners. You take your shoes off at the door, your hat off for dinner and your coat off when you enter a gathering or party. That's how I was taught, and that's seriously the most 'conservative' thing about me. Table manners are a must, and removing your hat for a sit-down meal to me is the same thing as using a knife and fork rather than your hands or your face. I don't want to sit at the table with the person who eats with their hands, and I don't want to sit with somebody who can't remove their ballcap/douchebaggy flat-billed cap for the duration of dinner.

Well, seems most don't agree. To me taking off ones hat when going inside is as nessceary to politeness as saying thank you and holding a door open for someone. Altough true, if I'm just quickly poping into something like a gas station, I won't bother (though I will lower my hood if I'm wearing a jacket). But if I enter a persons house I'll always remove my hat. No matter how casual I am around them and no matter how long I'm staying, if I am invited into someone's house, I take my hat off. But still, maybe thats just me.

You'd be surprised by how much you can tell about someone from how they present themselves.

(Not saying at all that you should ever judge people soley on apearance, or that you should never give the personality a chance to redeem the look, or that look is even the major factor in determining your opinion on someone.)

in most situations, it doesn't at all bother me. Douchy or not, it doesn't hurt unless they're being genuinely bad-mannered by keeping their hats on. I never wear one or ever put my hood up indoors.

If people are annoyed by this then they clearly have nothing better to do in their lives so they just concern themselves in a matter which isn't theirs.

I don't care. It's proper etiquette to take your hat off indoors, and I always do, but it's not something I care if other people do. A lot of balding guys always keep their hats on to cover up their shiny head, and hope the little bit of hair around the edges fools everybody. I think that's kind of funny :D

Real world problems all up in this piece haha. I don't care about hats and the days of being a "gentleman" are probably gone otherwise I would be in a full suit all the time and being a real Dapper Dan when going out hahaha yeah I don't think so.

Yes. It's not something that I'm going to get angry about but if I was sitting with a friend or family I would just say "take your hat off" casually and that would be it, most people just forgeet. It is completely arbitary, nothing really occurs on a literal level but it is one of the most basic western social politenesses, so I just do it and I do expect everyone else to do it.

I mean I'm sure everyone's been told at some point it's just polite to do it and it's not very hard. To those who are attacking this practice please ask me where I need to elaborate? Would you keep your hat Nike hat on at a funeral?

I play it but my rules of what I need to wear to attend whatever I'm doing. If its a funeral, a wedding or fancy 50+ dollar per meal restaurant, then I'm putting on my Daper Dan Church Clothes. If it's going to the bars or a casual restaurant then I wear what I want. Obviously I wouldn't be going to a funeral wearing a NFL jersey, shorts and a hat. People need to have common sense on how to dress depending on the situation.
