[QUOTE="Teuvan"][QUOTE="Niebz"]Wow. I can't believe the amount of ignorance and hate in this thread. Learning a new language is difficult. For some it may be too difficult. Put yourself in their shoes. Imagine being unable to communicate with the people around you. I'm sure that many don't even have access to the resources necessary to learn the language. Even if they should chose to stick to their native language they shouldn't be ridiculed or treated like garbage. I'm annoyed at the amount of intolerance people seem to have for anyone who might be slightly different than them.Niebz

If learning a new language is "too difficult" for someone, they should remain in a country that they can speak the native language of. Not having the proper resources is no excuse. If you're able to move to a different country, you should be able to find some way of picking up a new language. If not being able to communicate with people around you is so horrible, then you should make some effort to learn the goddamn language. Choosing not to learn the language of the country you decide to live in inexcusable, as that is equivalent to choosing to be a burden on the native residents of that country. I have absolutely no sympathy for immigrants that make no effort to learn the native language of the country they immigrate to and believe they should be deported immediately.

Aren't you full of hate? How are these people a burden if they work hard, pay their taxes and abide by the law?

I hate people that are lazy and ignorant to such extremes that they would choose to move to a foreign country and not learn its native language. They are more likely to violate the law if they're unable to communicate with the vast majority of their fellow citizens, not to mention the dangers presented to themselves and others from being unable to read traffic signs or simple warning labels. Being entirely unable to communicate with people around you does make you a burden on them in everyday life, both socially for obvious reasons and in work due to the inability to read any instructions or follow any orders that aren't given in your own language. A lot of immigrants that entirely lack basic English language skills are illegal anyway, which in and of itself is not abiding by the law.

I'm sure most of them know/learn enough to get by.  Growing up I worked in a restaurant run by a family of Chinese immigrants.  Their kids learned English fairly well and helped their parents the best they could.  Their parents, being older found it more difficult to learn the language.  They were neither lazy, nor ignorant, nor a burden on society.  They were good people who deserve respect.  The language you speak and the country you are born in does not dictate what kind of citizen you will be.

I don't even live in America or the UK...but I consider my English descent. Watching TV I hear English ALL DAY long. Some foreign countries remove the voice acting in the Cinema. And then I'm like...WTF? Have you ever heard of subtitles??? ****** SUBTITLES!!! They don't comprehend their own NATIVE language...I mean reading subtiles!! They are analfabetic Thats a disgrace if you ask me. Shame... So then I hear Mell Gibson, Russel Crowe and Denzel Washington speak Chinese or whatever. It just doesn't make any sense. I find that sad and yes it annoys me.
It annoys the hell out of me.
I feel like grabbing a megaphone and yell out "SPEAK ENGLISH!!!" to their ears.
M8ingSeezun
Haha now that is exactly how I feel.
[QUOTE="RoyTheViking"]Well, seeing that the USA has no official language, hating people because they speak a different language is just plain nativism. Most people have ancestors that came here during the huge wave of immigration in the early 1900's. Most of them didn't speak english. Are you saying they should have not been allowed into The Land of Opportunity?M8ingSeezun

Hate is not an issue here.
If Europeans were able to assimilate themselves here, there should be NO excuse for Hispanics, Asians, Arabs, or Eastern Europeans not to assimilate themselves.

I don't live in America myself...but how do people feel when the Indians (Native Americans) don't speak English?

It does annoy me. A tourist or someone on vacation is one thing, but people who live here that dont annoy me. If you decide to come here.. that is great, but learn the language. Too many people dont speak English and make no effort to learn it which is absurd. You should not be given legal residency or citizenship without speaking English. Diablo112688

Well, like you said people who choose to live in my country but make no attempt to learn my langauge does annoy the **** out of me. however, what annoys me more is, people who don't speak english in my country, and they they have to have some person translate for them, and , you just think they could be saying anything you know?

I'm a big supporter to make English, at the least, a secondary language in all countries. If not that, at least all Western countries. It's not like the language is that different from the others and it would sure clear up a lot of confusion. I live in Belgium, I can't travel for more than a few hundred kilometres or I'm either in Dutch/French/German or English territory...

English is closer to Germanic (German, Dutch, Frisian, and the Scandinavian languages) then Spanish or Portuguese (which are part of a different group known as the Romance Languages), and most of the Western World (the Americas) Speak Spanish or Portuguese. also, A Chart, or two. Having traveled to many countries, I can say I dislike it when people don't speak English here. Just like they hate it when you can't speak their language there. All I ask, is that you try to speak it. You don't even have to speak it perfect, if you at least try I am fine with that. If you want to walk around and talk your native language with your friends in English speaking places, go for it.

It annoys me to go to France and hear people speak English all over. I want to hear French there, not English.

Yah, I get it a lot at work. Parents come in and use their kids as translators.

[QUOTE="Hinata237"][QUOTE="Hewkii"][QUOTE="Kev_Boy"]I'm a big supporter to make English, at the least, a secondary language in all countries. If not that, at least all Western countries. It's not like the language is that different from the others and it would sure clear up a lot of confusion. I live in Belgium, I can't travel for more than a few hundred kilometres or I'm either in Dutch/French/German or English territory...Hewkii
English is Closer to Germanic languages then Spanish or Portuguese, which most of the Western world speaks.

Please talk simpler. X_X

Germanic Distribution (countries that use Germanic Languages): Now, Countries that use romance languages (Spanish, Portuguese, etc):

well South america are not a part of the western world.....

well basically :

The west = Europe

If you're talking geographically then yes, if Europe is the center.........south america would be to the west

I agree. I think they should be required to take like an oral test if they are moving to the USA.

No but it annoys me if I don't speak their language.
