I surely won't be getting an iPhone or any Apple product in the foreseeable future. Apple seems to be doing just fine with its (questionable) methods, though.

what is it about the android that made you 'stay'. my contract is up soon and i would mind trying an android device but i've yet to see anything that would pull me away from iphone. i know they are more open but what exactly is the benefit of that and what am i missing by not having an open platform.I bought the first Iphone, then when the 2nd gen was released I sold it on Ebay for more than I paid for it and upgraded. I did this up to the 3GS and have now moved on to android where I will remain. When it's all said and done, I didn't pay anything for the Iphones I've had and actually made money on them.

not planning on it anytime soon.. i know a small bump in screen resolution and 3mb more ram is a compelling reason to buy a new phone phone but i'll resist it.comp_atkinsExactly what phones are you comparing?
Not until they add a regular qwerty keyboard. I have a blackberry torch. I like the touchscreen but NOT for texting.
No joke. My whole class has an Iphone.
We play IPhone Call of Duty Zombies mode every time after lessons...
If you're American than it may interest you to know that AT&T just acquired T-Mobile USA.I'll probably get an iPhone when it's offered by my carrier, T-Mobile. For now, I have an iPod Touch, which is basically the iPhone without the "phone."

Had the Palm Pre until the Evo4G came out and ive been using it since. I see me using this phone for at least another year, probably longer. Iphones, and well most Apple items, imo are hipster products that bros, teens, peace sign facebook pic girls, and the uniformed trying to look cool people buy. Guy and girl at work use to be like "dude check it out new iphone, it does this and this" and i was like "ohh, my Evo does all that too....but faster. plus it does this other stuff your super great iphone cant".
I will never be getting one. Apple boasted a $6 billion profit, and yet they still charge a kidney to buy one of their devices. Obsessed with money, I'd say so. ferrari2001if a corporation can charge a premium of their product because people will pay it, why shouldn't they?

They do allow third party alternatives for the core programs, with the only major restriction being that web browsers can't use a non-WebKit rendering engine (unless they render pages remotely).[QUOTE="dog_dirt"][QUOTE="racer8dan"]

Actually, if I remember correctly, I did give you reasons it's better than IOS. It's customizable. I can use alternative web browsers, mail clients, video players, music players. If there's a particular feature I don't like, I can change it. Android has true multitasking, I can run 4 music players, playing 4 different tracks at the same time if I desire. Basically, I'm choosing an open platform over a native closed platform.
And yes Apple is greedy. Due to their closed system, they wish to "force" developers into using their services (app store) so that they get a piece of the pie of somebody Else's hard work. Android on the other hand is open and allows the developer to choose.

Also, since android os now is selling more, expect more things to come to android first (like crackle just came to apple).[QUOTE="racer8dan"]

If I were to spend money on a smartphone, however, I'm definitely at the point in my life where time is more valuable than money, so having something that just works and doesn't require tweaking is appealing to me. It's kind of like how I would never even consider using Linux as an OS, as it really is only free if your time is worth nothing. And Android reminds me a lot of Linux, except it's just as expensive as iOS in terms of buying the device.
this iphone vs. andriod thing is turning into mac vs. pc 2.0 apple wants to maintain control over too much ( it's os on it's hw, control over what applications it allows ) in the long run that approach ( when compared to entire pc market ) didn't work out too well for them. hell i remember apple was practically bankrupt a few years ago before the first ipod came out. with the growing popularity of the android platform it looks like apple might end up where they were with pc's.. owning maybe 10% of the market..comp_atkinsI'd say IBMs marketing power early on played a much bigger role in the PC's rise to dominance.

I miss plugging it into the computer and away you go, which alot of busy or non tech savy people would find appealing, which is fine. But I don't mind tweaking and customizing android to fit my needs, I like to have more control over how I want to personalize it to fit my specific needs and the Iphone doesn't do it for me in that area. Also, you have the option of any carrier, any hardware, and how much you wan't to spend on an Android device. where as the iphone you get one choice of hardware and two choices for carrier.

This is also true, although here in Canada I can get an iPhone with any provider...though they all suck, so it's not as if it's a great thing.
I'd be more interested in Android once Google's hardware restrictions kick in...keeping the platform so open is something that I think has hurt it a lot in terms of consistency. Right now, unless you read reviews very carefully and keep track of model numbers (which often vary from carrier to carrier), it's easy to buy a bad Android phone.

As for carriers... Well yeah it is restricted to the two major ones in the US (which at this point basically just leaves Sprint and the regional carriers). However other countries have no such restriction. I agree that developers, specially game developers, are a little more hesitent to release their games on android due to consistency. Every phone manufacture has to throw in their extras and android overlays which makes it harder for developers to reduce bugs and other problems. I wish it was a requirement to leave android completely stripped down to the way it was supposed to be and all updates came from Google. Please Log In to post.
