The reason why the US is so addicted to oil compared to other countries is the car industries within the United States actively bought out and destroyed public transportation services so the automobile would be the mode of transportation of choice.. sSubZerOo
Cough GM cough. The cable cars of LA got dismantled because of that I dont like to say for certain but thousands of miles worth of track doesnt disappear for no reason. They were then replaced with crappy buses, but this was all history. Luckily white house had passed some bills for public trans as of late but highway funding still exceeds this.
Anywhom back to sipping more petro.
If people want to make a difference they will start pushing through interest groups, grass roots, and lobbying to press government in supporting the construction of public transportation.. I would love to not need a car, but where I live there is no such thing as public transportation.sSubZerOoI think the reason why we are addicted to oil is because, especially where I live, you need a car to get anywhere. Our society has been spread out by the car so we need the car to do anything. And no public transportation is going to come to my neighborhood.

Sucks I would love to have a mass transportation train system like most of the EU has.[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"]If people want to make a difference they will start pushing through interest groups, grass roots, and lobbying to press government in supporting the construction of public transportation..
