It's not as if I sat myself down and decided either as if I wont trust myself at any instant and because of that try to lock on to a goal so that I dont stray from it.

What I mean to say by that is that I believe that when people say either "I will keep my virginity" or "I want to lose my virginity (asap)", then something is wrong with how they view the issue (unless its a religious conviction that makes them choose the first - which with I dont agree but it doesnt fall into the category of cases which I find nonsensical in the way I am describing here). Its not an issue you decide on simply by making a statement to yourself and trying to stick to it. Thats like an effort to fight back to a predisposition you think you have.... bla bla I'll spare you my psychology-esque rants.

In my opinion, you just try to be cautious and not hasty or too afraid of such an issue and go from there.

PS: And of course I would try to not think too much of it. As in, force myself to work out the issue in my head. If it is gonna happen.....well it will happen. If it wont.... then it wont. You get the picture.

I'm with Theokoth here, I've made it a point to stay as a virgin until I am married. It's kind of hard at times though, being in college and all.

There is nothing "saved" of any objective value or real value, the only thing "saved" is a notion of not losing something almost ethereal. Why is this "good", as opposed to the contraire of not putting any value into wether or not one practices premarital sex or not?

Now when it comes to sex and the "first time" (to which we lose our virginity), well we all know how awkward the issue of sex is to most people, so the glorification of that first time is kinda expected. :P

And I think that the notion of virginity as in when lost it has "dirty" connotations, is just an "expansion" from what I described about proportionally big "expansions" to the awkwardness of the issue.

I got my car custom built, but it started not working and after many uses the steering wheel became too loose.. So I decided to push the car off a cliff and pretend like some juveniles did it for ****s and giggles and get her car insurance. I took her up to the highest point of the mountain and right when she parked I slammed against her, the sound of her horn honking slowly lowered into silence. I went down the mountain to see if she was finished off, sadly her motor was still running, so I lit the pool of her own oil on fire and killed that ****.

I do to some extent. Not worried about losing it. I will lose it when I am ready. I would like to loose it to someone who means a lot to me.

Despite my perverted humor, I care a lot about my virginity and have gone to some pretty great lengths to at least help in resisting temptation to lose it.
