[QUOTE="zeldaluff"]Agreed. This is a saaaad day. I'm devastated. It's bad news for sure. Conservative minority would have been acceptable, they can't really do anything too bad then since they're kept in check by the other parties. But man Majority is just going to suck.Conservative Majority. We're doomed.

What's wrong with conservatives? Honestly there have not been many major/important issues that the parties differ on in this election, and at this point a majority is far more valuable than a minority of anything else. At least **** is gonna get done, rather than endless bickering.
This. I'd rather have the Conservatives in a majority, Now they wont need to bribe all the other parties with useless **** to get bills passed. What's wrong with conservatives? Finally things can get done right.
Maybe he won't act on it but Harper is a very, very conservative person. Hopefully the rest of the party doesn't just give in to whatever he wants because if they do we're going to be set back 30 years. What's wrong with conservatives? Nothing is wrong with conservative, for now. It will be up to Harper to keep the extremist (pro-religious, anti abortion...) in a cageWhat's wrong with conservatives? The problem is that the type of stuff that is going to get done is going to f*** over the middle class. Say good by to social programs like unemployment insurance, the canada pension plan and health care. While were at it, lets lay off massive portions of the federal government to cut costs so we can give tax breaks to corporations. Yeah, that sounds great...

Well I'm going to go to sleep happy tonight. Now that Harper has the power to do what he wants instead of bickering in parliament for years until another election...

Another unfounded harper hater.
Watch as the things you claim he'll do dont happen, and people will praise the rest of the party for "restraining" harper. Rather than realizing it's all BS.
[QUOTE="F1_2004"]I'd rather have a minority .. at least other parties can keep them in line. "Keep them in line" is another word for preventing them from making any changes. If you really think that Canada can't get any better than it is right now, then I guess you have a point. Otherwise, trying to move forward is the best option. If he screws up, he'll get voted out next time, or lose the majority at least. What's wrong with that? Better than another 4 or less years of stalemate. What's wrong with conservatives? I don't care what party Harper is from, I'm not partisan. I remember your posts in the last thread and you clearly are. If Harper was from any other party I would be just as harsh on him. The guy has terrible ideas and if he doesn't restrain his own ideas then we're going to end up like the US. Aren't you the guy who kept going on about Liberal debt after being shown they ran a surplus for 11 straight years? Why am I even forming that into a rhetorical question. The silver lining in the clouds for me is that Gary Lunn looks like he's going to lose his seat in my old riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands.
I wish it wasn't to Elizabeth May, but hey.
Finally she'll have a seat... Maybe now she'll stop QQing about no-one caring what she thinks.[QUOTE="Ace6301"][QUOTE="Nibroc420"]Aren't you the guy who kept going on about Liberal debt after being shown they ran a surplus for 11 straight years? I remember this too. Kind of felt like deja vu until you mentioned that. :P
one good thing to come of this is that it looks like the bloc will lose official party status
Colin1192
Never understood the point of them anyways. It would be impossible for the Bloc to win since they only have ridings in Quebec (and I think one somewhere else).
LOL CTV just called Quebec an orange donut with a blue hole :P
And we didn't need this election.
[QUOTE="zeldaluff"]Agreed. This is a saaaad day. I'm devastated. I might not be so upset if I actually knew what they were planning. However, all I've heard from the conservatives is that Michael Ignatieff is from Jupiter and that Jack Layton eats puppies.Conservative Majority. We're doomed.

So... any thoughts on the future of the Liberal Party?
Is this a nadir from which they will return, or are they finished, and will the two major parties in Canadian politics now be the Conservatives and the NDP? In four short elections they've gone from four solid majorities to barely hanging on.

I'm glad i'm amusing more people than just myself then :D
I think their name is so embedded in Canadian politics that a come back is an eventuality. I think Iggy was a terrible choice though, I don't think it was so much the party as the leader this time. May take awhile though.So... any thoughts on the future of the Liberal Party?

I think they need to first figure out where they stand politcally, and then just take their time rebuilding themselves.
And get a decent leader.
From my perspective, it certainly seems that the position of political parties in Canada is much more volatile than in the U.S.
