Well he's 72. Some of his performances though are legendary. I mean Marlon Brando didn't do anything significant after Apocalypse Now and he was only 55. But he's also considered the best actor of all time.
No he was not. Sean Astin is an excellent actor, but he by no means outshined Elijah. Frodo became very ill as the movie progressed and relied on Sam to continue his quest. That is a matter of the characters in the story and their relationship to each other, not a matter of one actor outshining the other. Frodo/Sam is perhaps the most beautifully realized friendship in both literature and film.[QUOTE="Laihendi"][QUOTE="lostrib"]
he was outshined by Sean Astin

Sean Astin's acting and character actually made all the Frodo and Sam parts actually bearable to watch. Â I mean even andy serkis was a better actor than elijah wood
I am sick of you haters acting like Elijah's performance as Frodo was bad. It was not, and if you think it was then you are ignorant. People people go on and on about how great it was that he was not even nominated for an Oscar. That is not great at all, and that is even an outrage. His was one of the greatest and most beautiful performances in the history of film, and you people heckle him like fools because you are too uneducated about film and acting to appreciate the delicate subtleties of his performance. Being snubbed like that three years in a row after giving the performance of a lifetime - of the century - in three consecutive movies is an outrage. Frodo Baggins is the kind of role that actors never get a second time. That was Elijah's one chance to become the youngest winner of the Best Actor award in history and the academy stole it from him. Adrien Brody is a thief and he did not deserve to win best actor. He does not deserve the distinction of youngest recipient of the Best Actor award because he should never have won in the first place because Elijah is better. The Pianist is not even a very good movie; it is just mediocre. The only reason he even won over Elijah is because he is a racial minority and Elijah is not, and because The Pianist is a liberal race-bait drama whereas Lord of the Rings is post-racial (or in other words, not racist). The academy would not even consider giving a Best Actor award to someone born in Iowa because that is too typically American. They always give it to someone who is european or black, which is racist. Obviously I am not opposed to black people winning Best Actor awards, but the academy only even does it to be politically correct because they care more about politics than about acting. They care more about politics than they do about art. They are ignorant and corrupt. Elijah's performance as Frodo is a triumph of art, of the mind, and of humanity. That is an objective fact. Elijah Wood deserved the Best Actor awards for 2002-2004, and that is an objective fact. The academy is a bunch of fools who would rather appease some obscure civil rights activist-imebcile than take a stand for artistic integrity. I am sick of Hollywood liberal ignoramuses trying to turn film into some horrific socio-political movement. I am sick of George Clooney making speeches about how great he is because he supported minority voting rights after they happened, as if that makes him special. Elijah Wood is a much better actor than George Clooney, and if you disagree then you are ignorant. Elijah cares about actual acting rather than going on some bleeding-heart liberal crusade to pander to the Academy for votes.HHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAI am sick of you haters acting like Elijah's performance as Frodo was bad. Laihendi.. you presume too much. Like, how is Clooney even relevant anymore? He's not that special, no reason to be sick of him I see. Haters gonna hate?
You mean he should not be relevant because he is a mediocre actor, but he still gets any role he wants because of his politics. Hollywood is not even about art anymore, it is just politics. No he cannot. Any sensitive and compassionate person is left in tears at Frodo's scenes in Morder and also during the scene when he leaves Middle-Earth. This is because is performance is utterly beautiful. He shows the beauty of the struggle for life against evil.I love the LotR films but The Pianist is way better and Adrien Brody can act circles around your crush, Laihendi.

Sean Astin as Sam does far more to show emotion during the scene in Mordor and on Mount Doom than Elijah as Frodo.
