I've noticed that emo gets a lot hate here at OT, which is a real shame, since emo is one of my favorite genres. I know there are some of you out there who still like emo. By that, I mean real emo.

So, what are some of your favorites? Mine's Indian summer.

Oh, and I also want to hear from screamo fans. If you want some examples of emo, just ask, and I'll post some links :)

Same can be asked back to you my friend, How can you guys listen to a grown man sing about a candy shop?

Atleast our music has feeling and emotion and are not just singing about having a hit record, rolling in money, being hated by the police or being shot.

I don't want this to sound like an attack on your character, I'm just stating my opinion of the music. :)

Id have to agree there..

Id rather listen to a musican that has talent over one that was handed the lyrics to a song anyday...but i still dont like emo music :P

I'm not the biggest fan of emo music. I just appreciate them for playing their own instruments and writing music that they believe in.

Most rappers or solo singers nowadays just hire a songwriter to get them the biggest hit, biggest hits means more money. At the end of the day. That's all they're interested in.

In the rock/emo/metal scene you'll always be able to find a good band that are unsigned and pretty much unknown outside of your local area, that kind of band are more than capable of writing music that a band from 20 years ago can.

It's all about skills as a musician. Rappers can easily lip-sync one song and get paid for 'performing' it. Whereas a live rock band you can tell if they're live or pretending to play. Most bands choose to play as it's alot harder to mime on say a guitar.

I didn't, I said guys like you, meaning people that enjoy rap music. He was the only rapper that came into my head because of all the press attention he's been getting recently.

I understand man don't worry. I'm just trying to enlighten the few that are immature enough and are more than likely to read this and go "OMFG RAP MUSIC IS BETTER THAN YOUR EMO MUSIC" without any explanation.

Emo stands for Emotional. It doesn't mean it's sad music. It means it has emotion to it. Be it happy,sad or angry.

i'm not really a fan of emo, but i love screamo. La Quiete, City of Caterpillar, Funeral Diner and Saetia (of course) are all good. i recently downloaded Coffin Dancer. they're weird. its like post-rock/sludgy screamo.

i'm glad someone else knows about real emo/screamo.

This is why people think it's sad music. The title, I'm Not Okay. Gives off the idea it's an upsetting song. So as soon as you say "I like My Chemical Romance" you automatically get hated for it and are assumed to listen to depressive music.

It's all got too stereotypical, you can't just be a normal person anymore. It seems like everyone belongs to some kind of a 'label' in another persons eyes.

in my experience(now this is just what i hear on the mainstream,i dont look into underground stuff)most the stuff that is classified as "emo" has lyrics from deathto "omg i broke up with my g/f"

i think that kind of mainstream emo might give it a band name,but then again you cant blame us,thats all we hear.

They're not ignorant. It's just that with all of the different definitions floating around, the real one has gone awol so they find it difficult to understand what it actually means after believing another definition for so long, which they believe is the correct one.
