Britian has had some great music, I don't think there's any disputing that, but the best?
Impossible to determine, really.

Black Sabbath were wack yo. Even Lemmy said Sabbath sucked. And The Stones were better than Beatles. Better guitarist and had a bigger impact on hard rock. Beatles were good but they had alot of terrible songs. Love Me Do? I Am The Walrus?

I Am the Walrus is epic, I don't know what you're smoking (but it clearly isn't what they were).

I'd hardly call a band that basically started the whole genre of metal and has influenced future artists for decades sucky. And Lemmy is just Lemmy, no surprise there. Oh and what country is Motorhead from?
And I will agree with a better guitarist, but Keith was hardly that great anyway. The most impressive thing he ever did was take off his guitar, hit a fan with it and he didnt miss a beat. I gotta give him props for that :P. However, I am The Walrus is an awesome song. It's so, odd :P

Man, the only thing the Rolling Stones were good at was writing songs. It seems every time someone covers a song of theirs, it's 10x better. They released what, two? Three good albums? Then the rest were them riding on their popularity?

Two or 3 good albums? Well you clearly have no clue what you're talking about. Try listening to some albums before Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main St and the come back. And please do tell me all these amazing covers. I don't think I've ever heard a great cover of a Stones song. Atleast none come to mind.

I thought Exile on Main St was pretty solid, Sticky Fingers was solid as well, and Beggar's Banquet was pretty good. The rest were mediocre. I might give a pass to "Some Girls", but that could be stretching it a bit.
I mean, their songwriting was solid enough, but it just doesn't translate for me. Keep in mind, I also think The Beatles only have maybe a dozen decent songs, so the whole british movement clearly wasn't my thing. More influential than enjoyable.

I'd agree they're not the greatest out of that list but you can't deny they've made some hits. Can't believe i forgot the Police!
Having hits does not mean one is the top of the game. Most hits are safe, generic music.I'd agree they're not the greatest out of that list but you can't deny they've made some hits. Can't believe i forgot the Police!

Well i wouldn't say Coldplay are a perticularly generic band yet they're had number ones so must be doing something right. A matter of opinion i guess. Saying that's its kind of besides the point as in my opinion they are a great representative of the British music talent which is why i listed them in the first place.
If they are representative then I have to disagree with the statement about English having the best musicians.Well i wouldn't say Coldplay are a perticularly generic band yet they're had number ones so must be doing something right. Who ever said they were generic? :? pretty break-through stuff if you ask me.
i would say amreica has the best "musicians" skill wise.
and i reckon the best bands are from finland!
Break through in what way? What they've done has been done before and better. I have to head to work but I look forward to reading this response.Who ever said they were generic? :? pretty break-through stuff if you ask me.

LJS9502_basic suggested it thought he never said it. My post has been taken slightly out of context now.. any great band represents a talent, mainly because they're talented, breakthrough, inspring etc themselves. I don't get what you're disputing besides Coldplay not being the best i'm afraid.
And to agree with Clembo, I've never heard anything like Viva la Vida nor their other albums before. Obviously they're not for everyone, but they pull of a unique ****and sound whilst creating songs people aren't going to forget
