Well, there's no legal basis for that either... full auto is illegal for civilians.

Actually no, just restricted heavily

I like this idea! i LOVE guns!

Everyone should buy/rent a gun and take it to a range to see what its like to fire one and to see if they like it before they try to impose gun control. its super fun

True... like suppressors, but for the vast majority it's functionally the same. You're right though... Anyway, I see a rather large difference between owning a handgun or shotgun for reasonable home defense, and somehow extrapolating that people want burst-fire AR-15's for the same. I think our stances on gun ownership are similar, so when it comes to self defense wouldn't you rather not be worrying about missing with an assault rifle? My preference is something that won't lead to over penetration and harming someone else. JHP from a handgun, properly aimed is marvelously effective, and if that isn't viable, a shotgun is marvelously effective. I wouldn't trust MOST people with a submachine gun, or assault rifle with burst-automatic fire. For one, there is a physicality involved in controlling that, the need for constant practice, and most people aren't that committed.

You can always replace the bullets with sand. Incredible pain but definitely not lethal.

I don't think that's such a good idea. Not everyone knows how to properly use a gun, and more importantly a lot of people don't know when a gun should be used. Arming everyone with deadly weapons would probably needlessly escalate violent situations.

so? if someone uses his/her gun to harm someone intentionally then use your gun to shoot back! its self defence. if your worried about safety, as in not waving your gun around in peoples faces like a moron, then take a firearms safety class.

I'm certainly not going to carry a gun everywhere just on the one-in-a-million chance that I'll be witness to some crime and be able to shoot the perpetrator. And if a person isn't properly trained in gun safety and if they don't have a reasonably calm disposition, then I sure as hell wouldn't want to be anywhere in the area when they all start blasting away at some guy.

Oooooohhh.. sand?!!? In older times in the USA people would fill loads with rock-salt, but that dissolved and the salt kept infection from setting in. Sand is just... OW.... I mean.... OOOOOOOW!!! @Neo-ganon: I think you underestimate the harm you do to yourself, even when you justifiably kill another person.

Definitely... brandishment is already a crime, and I'm not clear why we want to increase shootings, even in self defense. With a low rate of gun violence stastical outliers like unintended deaths of bystanders due to overepenetration, missing the target, etc.... they can be accepted. If you suddenly jack up the overall rate, even if that doesn't horribly distort the statistical layout, you're going to have more of EVERYTHING, including accidental discharge, and other unintended and honest mistakes that nonetheless... lead to deaths.

No, if everyone carries a gun, then MORE shootings would happen. If LESS people had a gun, there would be LESS shootings. Not that hard to figure out, actually.

Pretty sure I own more firearms than anyone else on this board, and I still think that's a bad idea. The greater number of gun owners, the larger number of "incidents".

That sounds like a terrible idea, but I do think there should be more security personnel in places like colleges and schools. We have marshalls on every plane now, so I think having a few cops in every school and college could minimize casualties.

I mean, I like guns, but I strongly believe in gun control and think that only someone who is in a perfect mental health state with no record of felonies and a license should get guns.

the gun control debte is just another boondoggle where emotion trumps facts.

every time a new state passes a concealed carry law the murder, rape, robbery and burgerly rates drop dramatically yet that hardly ever makes the news.

if you look at the statistics and leave the emotional appeals out of the argument in the usa guns save more lives than they take and prevent more injury than they cause.

on top of that civilian shooters have an amazing record for safety and the incidence of a civilian killing an innocent person is five times lower than the police record according to newsweek with only a 2% incidence for civilians versus 11% for trained police officers.

people also need to stop ignoring results that they don't like because it does not support what they believe one glance at NYC and washington d.c. crime statistics show an explosion of gun violence as soon as they passed their draconian gun control laws and removed guns from the hands of law abiding citizens.

Everyone carrying guns is probably the worst idea ever.

If everyone did carry guns, you'd see a sharp increase in "heat of the moment" killings.

I sort of agree with you, but not the part where EVERYONE should have a gun. As long as someone has no criminal record, no mental illnesses, and have knowledge and safety with fire arms (this should be a requirement IMO) and thier gun isn't illegal or fully automatic (which again is illegal in civilian hands anyway) than I don't see the problem with people carrying concealed. And if more good citizens did than there would be less crime...

Take a look at Switzerland where it is REQUIRED to own a gun, and they have very little gun control and yet they have one of the lowest crime rates in the world! I'm not saying we should get rid of gun control as I belive in some, but more guns do NOT equal more crime. People that want to ban guns arn't using logic, see most of the guns that are used in crimes are obtained illegaly through the black market, gang members smuggle them in through the southern border (which is why we need to secure the border) and then sell them to hardened gang members that kill people. All your doing when you ban guns is putting civilians at risk, the criminals will ALWAYS have guns, no matter what. And if your unarmed they know it and will come after you.

I have my concealed carry liscense and depending on the state it can be easy or hard to obtain. One thing though I found dissapointing about the process is they don't teach hunters safety, which should be a requirement IMO. And they don't teach people about the various mechanisms of fire arms and you get alot of people going into the class thinking it's like Call of Duty and want to be "cool" but they bring fire arms that you can clearly tell they have no experience with.

The point I'm making is we need to educate people about fire arms and fire arm safety and teach people not to be afraid of them.

"Carry" a gun without license / without a protective case, is illegal in many states. magicalclick

Actually in most states carry is not illegal without a license

However Concealed carry does require a license in all but 2 states

Uhh yes it is, you cannot walk out into the street with a gun. You will get shot. Do you even know anything about gun laws? Even if the gun is concealed you still need a liscense to carry outside your home. I am a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment and I think that law is perfectly fine, and I shoot my fire arms regularly and have alot of fire arm experience and have taken a BUNCH of gun courses.

So I think I know what I'm talking about...

Many states don't need a license to carry(as in open carry)

Like my state of Kentucky allows open carry( bar certain obvious restricted areas)

Loaded status, vehicle status, and so on varies per state

Hell, Alaska and Vermont you can even conceal carry without any license

*(Lucky bastards)

I'm applying towards CCW in Jan 2012, so I've been researching local laws
