Just curious, what are the gun laws in Norway?

That is a lot more than previously reported. How'd one person open fire and kill 80.Norwegian police via VG:At least 80 people killed on the island!!!!!!!!
Tetrarch9
Small island, probably a lot of people were probably there and I doubt there was much if any security at this youth camp...terrible situation.
This crazy animal is just freakin sick man! This is a pic of him and the poor teens he slaughtered. ******* animal

lol_haha_dead
That's terrible.

Strict as hell, but one can legally buy weapons if you have a hunting licence and a clean criminal record, which he had. What kind of weapons can you buy? Hunting rifles or other arms?Just curious, what are the gun laws in Norway?

Why do you assume the terrorists aren't Norwegian? Usually Terrorist just want to establish their presence by attacking a high profile target that happens to be an easy target.
Could have been an inside job.Somepne trying to get rid ofwhomever with no regard forwhoever elsecould be injured orkilled. Sure if it wasn't an accident it was an attack, but who was it? It could be someone that works there. Who isexempt from terrorism?
Here you have him. He could've been your friend or next door neighboor. Your son or your brother. You'll never know, even your best friend might be able to do these things and you'll just sit back and wonder why he/she would do this as he/she was just a very normal person.
With the internet, rumors have a tendency to move everywhere very, very fast. People claiming there was some guy hired by either muslims or kurds are officially wrong. They were to quick to judge and to quickly confident on a fact that was likely just because of a horrible stereotype. This guy was a nazi or whatever. I don't really care. Whoever he might've been, he was an animal.
Don't be so quick to judge people, there are people from every single part of the world willing to do this stuff to prove some dumb point and kill a bunch of innocent souls. Wow. Also some of you guys, of which I considered decent people based on the previous content you've posted on here, have completely changed my perception of you.

And here's the photo as it appears on the Fox News website. :P

It seems to definitely be domestic and politically driven. He'll most likely get forvaring ( custody) for life. It's very rarely used and doesn't exactly fall within normal prison sentence as it's used only on very special occassions.I'll be amazed if Norway's maximum prison sentence (21 years) is applied to this man...

This is a terrible thing happening to one of the most peaceful, and the country with the highest human developement index.
It's making me depressed :(

these are my thoughts as well
why no one necessarily deserves to be attacked by terrorist...why Norway? What did they ever do?
It may not be an external attack. May be more local poltical factors or some disenchanted anarchist.Terrorist can be foreign or domestic.
Domestic Terrorists groups in the US
Timothy McVeigh
Ted Kacynski
But I can understand why you thought I mean the typical "brown skinned arab terrorist" as that seems to be the connotation nowadays, and the most relevant.
Still, I thought Norway was one of the more "happier places to live" in the world with a good standard of living. I guess anyone can find any reason to be upset enough to kill people, though :( So sad
This is just unreal and messed up. Those pictures...I can't get them out of my head. It's just sick.
My absolute condolences to the Norwegian people, I hope this tragedy will only make you an even stronger country.
I have a feeling that if this man had been a Muslim, then this tragic event would go on forever in the media but because he wasn't a Muslim then I'm sure this story will die out real fast. Sorry but that's the real truth.

He still might be a Muslim :P

Guess we'll find out pretty soon. But the man who did this was not a Muslim. So far I'm reading about him and some sources say that he in fact is a Anti-Muslim himself though I'm not real sure but sources do say that he isn't a Muslim and that he is a right-wing extremist.

He's a freemason according to Wikipedia, yesterday, Wikipedia blamed Gadaffi, Al-Shabab and other groups. Now they claim something else.http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-07-23/explosion-rocks-norway-pm27s-office/2807138/?site=melbourne
"Some of my friends tried to stop him by talking to him. Many people thought that it was a test … comparing it to how it is to live in Gaza. So many people went to him and tried to talk to him, but they were shot immediately."
This is by all accounts a devastating tragedy, but what the hell kind of camp was this? Multiple people get shot, it's assumed that it's a "test", and the shooter is then approached? This sounds like a radical right lunatic attacking a radical leftist camp...
What is Norway's politics like? If he's a right-winger, whymight he hate the left so much? What sort of issues separate them?
EsYuGee
He is a nationalist, its a very old movement in Europe that was very big right until WW1. think tea party but bigger on hating foreigners. its a rather Far right movement.
now in: 84 kids shot dead in Utøya, 7 dead in Oslo. These are the confirmed numbers and they will rise
It seems to be one guy, possibly a smaller group as someone had to drive him to the island, that were responsible. A very Nationalistic person judging by the news and findings the police have done.

Do we know which group is responsible for the bombing or is everyone just making assumptions?
spacesheikh
Why would a nationalistic person terrorize his own country?
Just google Hitler Gestapo, Schutzstaffeln der NSDAP or Night of The Long Daggers. You'd be suprised.
Update with all official info:
So far the kill count is up to 91. 7 in the explosion and 84 at the labour party's youth rally.
The man is a right winged extremist(pics above in the thread) and the attack is political motivated. Norway has at the moment a government consisting of parties from the left. The labour party, the Social democrats and the Center Party.
The kings guard has been placed to secure the areas in Oslo around where the bomb went off.
It is not known if he was doing this alone or if he had help from a right winged extremist group. But it does seem unlikely that he did all this on his own.
Norway is a peaceful country and haven't experienced anything like this since WW2. We are a multi cultural people that respect people's right to disagree, so this has been a dark day for our country's history.
I live in Denmark... Normaly i hear about this in the middle East or Asia. But it's so scary when it happens in your neighbour country...
What the hell! I just heard in the news that he might only get 21 years in prison! He claimed 91 lives... Maybe more! And since im very close to Norway and we nearly speak the same laungage we get reports every minute... So im gonna keep you guys updated... Im seeing footage of dead people and young people saying how they saw their friends die.
I offer my deepest consolations to my Norwegian friends.
Hopefully, you will recover from such miserable day.

Um, why is everyone saying he's far right? He's a member of Fremskrittspartiets Ungdom; they're leftwings. And no, I'm not saying FPU members are like this.
