If I could just post that emote I would, F-Boy is laughably bad.

[QUOTE="dracula_16"]The only thing worse than ignorance is aggressive ignorance. You can like Fall Out Boy all you want, but please, don't try to spread that **** on me. Bull ****. The thread title alone was designed to provoke people. You also said if I dislike FOB then I'm an elitist. You're just trying to sugar coat it and I can see right through that.

I know it was (isn't that what everyone else does when elaborating on how bad they are?) but I never believed it would make people like them.I'll give you this. They're okay. The lyrics and metaphors are clever, but the music is bland and unoriginal.
Musically speaking, they have absolutely NOTHING on most current metal bands (not radio crap metal). Lyrically, they do a bit better than a lot of current bands. The subject matter is stupid, but the way they write is still interesting. "I'm just a painter and I'm drawing a blank"-that's good.
[QUOTE="uconnhuskies050"]You could look at my last.fm thing that I recently made. It totaled my number of play for me. http://www.last.fm/user/Sweetnessness/This thread is more about Snake's stalker-esque obsession with FOB than it is about the actual band, so I feel the need to say this...Prove to me that you love them more than anyone else in the world. Without proof of that first, all your posts and arguments in your own favor are invalid.
But that's my opinion. :D
SolidSnake35
Actually, that's amazing. I have no argument against you, and therefore you win by default. But at this point I don't know whether to praise your defense for what you (obviously) love, or attack the craziness that is the fact that you have listened to this band at least four times as much as the second most played band in your collection.
Having looked at the lastFM thing.... maybe it'd be better to look at some new bands and branch out a bit? Maybe appreciating a broader variety of music would result in you not being as annoyed by comments directed at Fall out Boy which seriously seems to be the only music you listen to. :PNinja-HippoI have been, quite a bit. It's just slow going. >.>

It's not like that's any better.dracula_16The post only referred to those who constantly insult their music hence the "then you can spare us from your boring hate on them from this point forth" at the end. If you didn't already do it, why would you be asked to spare it?
Wouldn't it be great if Pianist waltzed in and dropped a technical analysis?A_Tarkovsky
Pianist would need a claim to address - something less vague than "Fallout Boy is more awesome than your favourite band" - to say anything about this. I mean, awesome in what respect? There's nothing there to debate...

this has to be the worst pianist prediction I've ever read. Surely he would realize the use of orangutans in a pop punk emo band with no melodic continuity is the exact kind of brilliance it takes in the music industry.

The thing with taste-based opinions is that they are not debatable. If he had made a more specific claim that involved some aspect of music... anything about music, really... then the claim could be evaluated. But frankly, if a person says he likes something, nothing anybody says is going to change that fact. People look for different things in music. And while it seems that the vast majority of people posting here don't like Fallout Boy, plenty of others do. And that's really all there is to it.
When a subject involves nothing but personal taste, it's hard to have an uninformed opinion. It's only when a person starts to talk about the music and WHY it is awesome that their comments can be evaluated, and that's where most people don't have a clue what they're talking about.
Well not really. Why music is awesome is personal. The thing with taste-based opinions is that they are not debatable. I find their vocalist sounds like a little girl, and their musical compositions are lacking and rather simplistic. I doubt that Fall Out Boy could ever beat Pink Floyd at writing truly classic songs with depth and a good tune.
Your thread is valid. All about opinions really.

There's a difference between these two claims:
"Fallout Boy is awesome because I like how their vocalist sounds!"
"Fallout Boy is awesome because the lead vocalist is a better singer than X singer!"
The first claim could not be addressed, because it is personal taste and nothing more. The second claim could be addressed, because we can evaluate a singer's technical control with respect to a specified set of criteria and suggest who is really better in that respect. Again, whether or not a person likes something is not debatable. But his or her reasons for declaring a particular band's supremacy over others could certainly be debatable if any true arguments had been presented.
Hmmm....that would depend on the criteria being used to measure better. Better can be a personal preference. I'd bet that as far as singers go.....on the professional level...and using live performance as the measure....the more technical aspects would be in the talent range for both. Therefore, it's preference. I may not like the voice singer A has....you may not like singer B.There's a difference between these two claims:

also like ninja-hippo said, branch out a bit. you may at the end of your search find that you still enjoy listening to fallout boy more than any other band, but chances are you will find a great deal of music out there that you enjoy.

Yes, but there would be a very specific reason that you could cite for not liking or liking a particular singer. And when it comes to particular technical aspects of singing (breath control, intonation, tone production, phrase sensitivity for instance), it is really quite easy to evaluate superiority. Where the subjective bias comes in is where you start talking about musical decisions - things like use of rubato, or how dynamics are used - in short, how a singer decides to apply his or her technical abilities. I guess what I'm trying to say here that there is technical control, and then there is interpretation. Technical control or lack thereof is easily evaluated and ranked. Interpretation is entirely taste-based, and if you're talking about a number of extremely fine performers, ranking often comes down to exactly that - how much the judges liked a particular interpretation.
And of course, agreeing on which technical criteria are to be the basis of comparison is also necessary for debate. If one person is interested primarily in dynamic shading and the other in rhythmic control, it would be impossible to determine who is a superior vocalist, unless of course one vocalist was superior in both capacities, in which case there'd presumably be no disagreement.
I hope it pains most of you that your favourite band will never reach their level of superiority, save for in your own mind. If you can't provide any evidence to suggest that FOB aren't awesome, besides your own opinion based, elitist waffle, then you can spare us from your boring hate on them from this point forth. It's my opinion against yours and I'll be damned if you think more highly of your favourite band than I do. As such, you lose. ^_^SolidSnake35
Ok i'll take crack at this.
Grand Funk Railroad - First American band to have 10 consecutive platinum albums, played Shay Stadium(same stadium as the Beatles) and sold out in less than one weekend which is a record that has stood for 37 years. During one of Led Zeppelins tours they opened for them and got Led Zeppelin booed off stage. They were unmatched in ticket sales during their era and also influenced many of the modern day hard rock/metal bands.
Fall Out Boy could never reach their level of superiority no matter what. Rock isn't what it used to be.
