Not only supporting more than one team. Not just supporting more than one team in one country.

But supporting more than one team in a league.

Itihad Jeddah

translates as United Jeddah.

Saudi soccer team.

whenever the world cup is going on. i root for USA, Spain, and Saudi Arabia.

Either way, i just enjoy it. World Cup is a fun time, especially in most of the world where they play it and enjoy it a lot.

The next WC is in Brazil, then in 2018 it's in Qatar.Yeah it will suck and no one wanted it there. FIFA is ridiculously corrupted.

I also enjoy watching Bolton Wanderers for the comedy drama the slipshod cheating buggers.

Iceozo took the letters right out of my keyboard! I used to like to play as the Miami Fusion on FIFA 2001. But now they've just banished them, so I became more mature as a fan of Man U. 8)

Man Utd, have supported them since I was 6, loved watching Cantona play. By the way whats so bad about supporting a team that wins a lot?? Seems to me a lot of people like to support Brazil as a national team because they have won a lot.

Manchester United, since I can remember. I'm not sure what sparked it exactly, but I'm tempted to say it was a small plastic toy of Ryan Giggs I randomly found when I was about 4 years old. 16 years or so later, I've never looked back. I never really had a local team as such, as we'd moved from London before I can remember, and the place we moved to doesn't have a professional team. Now I've lived in Portsmouth for 2 years for Uni, I somewhat support them and have been to a few matches, but I'm pretty sure one's passion for a team can never truly change, so I will always be a Man Utd supporter at heart. For some reason I never went down the Chelsea path, despite the strong support of them from my dad's side of the family. But then he never used to go to games or talk of them much when I was young anyway.

I don't support any team in particular. Although I like to see my local team performing well (I'm more of a 'wellwisher' than a supporter)

Glory suppoting amuses me to the point of frustration though. Sure, for some, support for a winning team is inherited from family members. But for the vast majority of football's plastic fans, glory supporting begins with a conscious decision to support the winning team (whether that team be Man Utd, Chelsea, Real Madrid etc.) at an early age. It's the same with any sport.

Nevertheless, it's always hilarious to hear a Man Utd supporter with an Essex accent talk about their beloved club on radio phone-ins. If your going to glory support, you can at least make an attempt to glory support your nearest successful club. Try Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea... even Lille are closer to Essex than Manchester United!

Edit: I feel sorry for Manchester United fans who are actually from Manchester to be honest. They get unfairlytarred with the 'glory supporter' brush.

People can choose to support whatever team they like. But sporting teams are often regarded as ambassadors for the regions they represent. As such, you'd expect people to be more inclined to support a more local team because, theoretically, they should identify more closely with its ups and downs and carry a greater emotional connection and investment in the team than somebody else. Which is why it baffles me that, referring to my example again, somebody from Essex chooses to support Manchester United when they could have chosen a handful 'big clubs' to support that are right on their doorstep.

To answer your second question about international Man Utd fans. Yes. They are. Because their decision to support Manchester United isn't based upon an emotional connection with the team because the club is an expression of their local identity. Fans in Spain and other parts of the world support them because they get the most exposure on the TV. And they get the most exposure on the TV because they win. You don't see crowds of fans in Singapore and elsewhere wearing replica shirts for, say, Le Havre AC, because they have never head of them. Because they don't win. Therefore they don't support them.
