They are discontinuing the S2000, so no point in buying a bran new one new, if its the last model....it'll just depreciate and be a waste of money, especially if there were no big design changes in the past couple years....

waste of money....nah

Lol, if you can get the same car, just a few years older with a few more miles for thousands of dollars cheaper, then yah, buying new would be a waste, and like I said, this is the last year, the car would just depreciate and be worth the same as the ones I posted very soon, meaning you would loose tens of thousands of dollars fast.... That doesn't seem like a waste?

05 Mustang GT. I have an 05 V6 that I love to death, and will be hanging on to until the twin-turbo Mustang in a year or two. V8 power with V6 weight and mileage? Yes, please.

Aw dude. I was going to agree with you then, but did you actually say mods?

Either buy a good car to start with or make do with what you have. Customisation is lame.

[QUOTE="smokingsbad"][QUOTE="Anti-Venom"] Many people would disagree with that....including myself...footballa27
He isn't here to argue that which of those cars are faster, he wants to no a mustang or Trans am, Jeez:x

thank you, all i said is that i like muscle cars and which one should i get... then venom busts out with crappy hondas beating v8's

The right work and a v4 can out run a v8 and vise versa. So, with that in mind....who cares?

If I were to pick between the Mustang and the Trans Am....well, I just don't like Pontiac and the last few vehicles I owned were Ford (got my mom's old car back in 96' - 1989 Ford Tempo and then bought in 2000 a 1995 Ford Ranger XTL) and I really enjoyed the fact that they were very easy to work on. Everything was accessable without too much hassle.

Ford has always impressed me with that aspect. Unlike my new car that's a pain in the rear to do work on because everything is so damn cramped, but I still love it - 2005 Mazda 3 hatch in Lava Orange.

My 3 sits so low that I can't even get my hydraulic jack under it....waste of $120. At least I got some use out of that jack when I still had my Ranger. Oh well, such is life.

My vote is for the Mustang, even though I don't really like them. I'd much rather be in a Mustang then I would a Trans Am.

your comments on the S2000 are exaggeratedAnti-Venom
A little, but not by a huge amount. The mid-range John Deer tractors have 30hp diesel engines with about 1L of displacement and roughly 100lb/ft of torque depending on the model. The S2000 has a 2L engine with 160lb/ft of torque, and somewhere around 240hp (I think). In comparison the base Mustang has 210hp and 250lb/ft of torque. Yeah, it weighs more, but torque is far more useful and fun in everyday driving situations than sheer horsepower. That's why the S2000 has to rev so high to achieve those numbers, since it has half the displacement of a Mustang and not even twice the displacement of a lawnmower. I guess if you race on a track exclusively it would be nice to have one, but that's pretty damn impractical unless you have more money than you know what to do with. And if that's the case, you'll probably have a Lotus Exige or Elise instead.

Trans AM all the way. How could you say no to this?

The other great thing about these cars is they have a cool digital dashboards and many things can be customized.

Lol, thats why I bought my 318i. All stock, except for a few visual things (As you can see in my sig). Very good car, very fun to drive, handles good, and has good fuel economy cause its has a 4 banger and a 5 speed. And it was also pretty cheap too. Very sporty.

I've always been a Pontiac girl, but you should probably call your insurance company and see which is cheaper to insure. I remember when I was car shopping it was cheaper to insure a Corvette than a Mustang GT.

150 ft.lbs of torque peaking at 7,500 rpm isn't going to smoke 302 ft.lbs peaking at 4,000 rpm (or ~420 ft.lbs @ 3,500 if you go into SVT Cobra territory). A 4.6L V8 is more than double the engine than a 2.0L I4.

And Mustang/Firebird GT coupes are far more convenient commuter cars than a sports roadster.

Straight performance numbers aren't an opinion... and smoking another car by pure numbers isn't an opinion.

I could see if you were defending the R34 GTR, that thing is a monster... but the S2000 is a high-revving 4-banger. Until the most recent iteration, it hasn't had decent mid-range power or torque and it doesn't even have a turbo or supercharger.

Given the amount of cargo space found in the S2000 I'd be inclined to call it more of a fact than opinion, but I guess people have different everyday driving needs. I guess if you never need to carry luggage or groceries it would be okay. There's always the passenger seat for a bag or two.

Nah, the 7500 is right - revving like a mother**bleep**er is the main way Honda managed to squeeze out 240 horsepower from such a small engine. Unfortunately, that small engine also means very little torque. I've been with my uncle driving his S2000 around town, and while it is fun, it's noisy as hell as you need to gun the engine in order to move anywhere. Hell, my crappy Taurus has more pulling power.

The power bands of most small-displacement DOHC engines is usually centered on the high-end as opposed to the low. The OHV design of American big blocks has always been about producing low end power and torque... something far more practical in terms of on-track and street performance. Especially considering you don't need a turbo-charger to pull fast times.

Hell, the 2003 Mustang SVT Cobra with its supercharged 4.6L V8 at ~420bhp/ft.lb can pull 12 second 1/4-mile times. Stock, for $30K.

Wow, that sucks. The S2000 has more torque then I do, but its way too high, and with a chip upgrade, I'd have the same torque at a much lower rpm. My car red lines at 6700, and max hp at 6000. I thought that was high rpms compared to all my friends cars. I've got an M44 1.9L with 133 rwhp & 5 speed manual, but I also have a 4 door sedan. I never have a problem with space though, and my car still has all the same dimensions of the 2 door coupe (Just about an inch taller, if that). Makes long trips cross state/country fun....I dont think you can have this much fun with an S2000.....

I wouldn't get either and here is why: both are extremely unreliable, both handle like a brick on wheels, and both lack many nice features that other cars at their price point have. I know you don't want to hear this, but American cars are ****, all of them. With 20k I could think of at least 10 different cars you could buy that you'd be way more satisfied with and could also outperform and outlast either of your current choices. Here are a few others you might want to consider. . .

Honda S2000

Mazdaspeed 6

Honda Accord V6

Subaru Impreza STI

Mitsubishi EVO

Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4

Audi S4 or S6

BMW M3

Infinite G35

Nissan 350Z

Mazda RX7

Mazda RX8

Acura NSX(older model)

Toyota Supra

Mercedez AMG C-class

I could see if you were defending the R34 GTR, that thing is a monster... but the S2000 is a high-revving 4-banger. Until the most recent iteration, it hasn't had decent mid-range power or torque and it doesn't even have a turbo or supercharger.

straight performance numbers dont mean crap anymore these days. The Tesla Roadster can out-accelerated a Ferrari Testerossa yet it has an engine the size of a lawnmower. there are countless other factors besides horsepower and engine size. i mean a mustang vs an s2000 in a straight quarter then yeah the mustang will have it beat by a couple lengths. but take them to a track where real performance is measured like Laguna Seca or Road America then the mustang doesnt stand a chance as its heavier, has a lower power to weight ratio and horrible braking distances

I had an 89 Trans AM GTA...man did I love that car. Cherry red and had t-tops, and was really fast.

Anyways, used to love smoking all those kids with the rice rockets :D Although this was years and years ago before the whole "tuner" thing got really popular and people started putting serious money into them.

Hmm yes that's true, I always judge vehicles on the track.
I remember seeing a video where it was a Lamborghini Gallardo vs Ducati 1098 on the track, it was very good. I think it made the guy in the Lambo try really at winning on the track because he don't wanna get beat by a bike. I was just wondering, do people try harder on the track if they're against a bike? Just one of those thoughts.

I have a 2005 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. It is an amazing car. I love driving it. Most of the Mustang haters are clinging to older stigmas. It was completely redesigned for 2005 including the suspension, brakes and powertrain.

[QUOTE="footballa27"][QUOTE="Anti-Venom"] alright, but an S2000 would smoke both those rides....Anti-Venom
a 4 cylinder honda would not kill a 325 hp v8 monster i beat an s2000 with my dads dodge ram

I dont think so...

Buddy, the Honday S2000 is weak sauce. Not trying to put you down or anything, but it is. Watch this video, it shows someone driving it to the "limit"... And you'll see that It's quite slow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pttpFE5Mo6E

because what i said was true

Many people would disagree with that....including myself...

i believe a dodge ram could destroy an s2000. and a mustang could smoke an s2000.

you clearly dont understand the concept of power to weight ratios...a ram is so much heavier than an S2000 that an a straight line the S200 would out accelerate and beat a ram easily. now the mustang would be the S2000 in a straight line but on a circuit track it would have its ass handed to it

I wouldn't pick either, as I think American manufacturing leaves alot to be desired. I like German autos. 8)

I always liked those late model trans-ams, I think they stopped making them in 2004. If I had the dough I would go for the late 70's early 80's Rocky Trans-Am with the bird on the hood and the t-tops.
