[QUOTE="SaintLeonidas"]Atheist put up billboard = attacking religion! Religious group puts up billboard = expressing their beliefs. InEMplease
Wrong. This billboard IS attacking a religion. If there was a billboard that expressed an atheist's beliefs, it'd be something like "the concept of God is illogical" not "the Christian god is sadistic". Likewise, if a religious group puts up a billboard that says all people who don't believe in Jesus will go to hell it is also wrong.
Uh oh.
yikes.
I think that's a step beyond. The Atheist signs were basically saying 'your belief system is stupid'. Those Christian signs are basically saying 'your lack of belief makes you an enemy ... and a dangerous lunatic'.
I take issue with both, to some degree. The signs that say 'join American Atheists now!' seem really corny. Atheism is about accepting reality as it stands without any supernatural explanation. It's not something you need to sign up for membership to.
[QUOTE="sonicare"][QUOTE="lx_theo"] The problem seems to be more than religious organizations do not think they are attacking atheists when the roles reverse.-Sun_Tzu-You could probably put up a billboard supporting logical thought or scientific reasoning without having to be negative about a specific religion. Many religous organizatoin just dont think in general, but that's a whole different issue. The solution isnt to match hatred with hatred or ignorance with ignorance. If you dislike how stupid these religous zealots can be, don't you think it's wiser to be the bigger man? It is easier to just attack religion.
It's also more effective, "Logical Thought" would get alot less attention than "Sadistic God". If people need to be told to use logic and reason then they probably don't have enough logic and reason to heed the message.

Did you maybe consider that atheists believe the christian god to be sadistic?
That's still attacking a religion by definition though.
Considering the Bible has god himself killing multitudes of people (entire cities, the entire world at one point lol) and has been the namesake for which millions have actually been killed (as in not make believe fairy tale land deaths, but real deaths) in history.
Not attacking, truth telling.
If a man is psychotic and just murdered some people, it isn't attacking him to call him a murdering psycho.

I agree with King Kong (I know right?), this ad IS attacking Christianity.
As it should be. I don't see what the problem is, or why people need to argue this. Atheists should be more active and vocal about the atrocities of religion. Especially Christianity in America.

[QUOTE="SaintLeonidas"]Atheist put up billboard = attacking religion! Religious group puts up billboard = expressing their beliefs. MBirdy88Worst news against athiests on off-topic - athiests putting up banners. Religeon - throwing acid in girls, faces, killing, torture, torture, ignorance over science ect. I see a trend. Athiesm probably is safer for all. whats important isn't that a religious person or atheist happened to do a bad thing, what's important is why. if its a story about some woman being exectued by her muslim father because she committed apostasy (just an example), that's BECAUSE of the religion. it's part of sharia law. if a muslim shoots someone at a gas station and steals money, it's not necisarily BECAUSE of the religion. and if an atheist rapes a young girl while taking drugs, it's not BECAUSE atheist dogma commands it. theres no such thing anyway. but yeah i get your point, athiests are statistically more law-abiding and more importantly don't justify their wrongs by quoting atheist scripture. there is no such thing, lol.
And they call us bigots...The-ApostleYou're the one that thinks Obama was born in Kenya because he's black.

to be fair, mormonism is f'ing crazy, as bad as scientology crazy.

I had no idea about the mormon background and beliefs until earlier this year when i looked it up. I never laughed so hard before
Completely true, it makes mainstream religions look completely rational by comparison.Everybody is too PC and lacks the balls to actually admit that Mormonism is incredibly stupid and irrational, even by religion standards. Hell, even by cult standards.

Nothing makes mainstream religion look completely rational. I used to think that scientology was really wacky, but if you look through a lot of the more main religions, they are full of crazy stuff as well. So, I still think scientology is crazy, but I think most other religions are too - lol.Truly terrifying that people express their beliefs. What next? Racial equality? Tolerance for homosexual marriage?
This damn country.

I don't think those billboard are right or a great way to put out a good word for Atheists quite honestly. It just seems generally in poor taste. I mean w/o question religous groups have done horrible ads time and time again, but that doesn't make this anymore right.
Having said that, I'd like to see a counter argument to the 300k+ versions of the truth statement, and the promoting hate bit, I mean the old testament God is pretty brutal, and so many hardcore Christians take the Bible completely literally.
You're the one that thinks Obama was born in Kenya because he's black. No, I think he was born in Kenya because that's where he was born. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin.[QUOTE="The-Apostle"]And they call us bigots...TopTierHustler

Actually no, he was born in Hawaii. Amazingly they even have records and even old newspaper clippings that prove it.
