Blondes are next

NOT since the middle ages has there been such a witch hunt for a redhead.

A 17-year-old, who was about to sit her senior exams, has been banned from school because her hair is too ginger.

Emily Reay has naturally auburn hair, and toldThe Mirror she has had the same colour for three years.

But after returning from the Easter school holiday break, teachers at Trinity School in Carlisle, UK, banned her from attending classes again until she had a “more appropriate” hair colour.

“I’ve had the same colour for the past three years, and nobody at school has commented on it,” she told The Mirror.

“Everyone knows me as that ‘young ginger singer’.

“If I had to dye my hair brown, I would lose that.”

The budding musician toldtelegraph.co.uk the school ban made her cry.

“I was very angry at first, and then burst into tears,” she said.

Emily offered to pin her hair up if teachers were concerned about the colour, but the offer was rejected.

Emily said her colour had been a “bone of contention” since the start of the school year, but teachers had let her get away with it.

“The laughable thing is my hair was brighter than this on prom night, and I won best hairstyle award.”

Her mother Julie, was equally furious about the ban telling telegraph.co.uk: “The school’s uniform policy clearly states no unnatural hair colours, like blue or green”.

“Is ginger not a natural hair colour?”

"Oh wow, redhead? What a slut..."

Are these guys on meds or something?

Anyway, I doubt she's a natural redhead, not with those eyebrows and the roots...still, who gives a shit what a student's hair colour is? Also, decent voice =)

I for the life of me will never understand why establishments freak out about dyed hair to begin with. It is just obnoxious and a truly outdated way of thinking.

She has naturally auburn hair and dyed it red you can even see her roots. Beyond that, this is a private Christian school and they can set whatever uniform/hair policy they want. She was probably warned as well...fake outrage and no sympathy from me.

Auburn is not completely red it's more brown and red, and she's dying her hair:

"Emily Reay has naturally auburn hair, and toldThe Mirrorshe has had the same colour for three years."

Meaning, she has naturally auburn hair but three years ago dyed it. In the video you can even see her roots...look at the video you posted...you can see the bright red hair and her more brown roots. She didn't get expelled for her natural color, she got expelled because she dyed her hair red. I'd wager it isn't the same color either as she claims...it's probably more red than before after she came back from break.

thread title seems misleading

i mean, she's not being banned for her natural hair colour, she's being banned for dying her hair in a way that falls out of school policy

Did you even bother to read the schools policy per hair? No unnatural colors. Red is not unnatural. Damn dude.....don't support authority all the time just because. Sometimes they ARE wrong.

The British have sticks up their butts when it comes to uniform policies. I had to suffer them for some 11 years of my life, but I've never seen someone get expelled because of it.

First of all, calm down. Secondly, the main contention is this thread is bunk from the get go. Pretending she got banned for her natural hair color when that is clearly is not the case. So out of the gate, it's factually wrong. Regarding her hair, in the video that looks pretty unnatural. You can clearly see it's dyed, see her roots which are a much different color, and the shade of red she is using is pretty bright and not like what most natural red-heads look like. I don't think it's a crazy color and pretty borderline, but ultimately that's for the school to decide as it's a private school.

The article itself is ridiculous as well...there's no witch hunt for red heads. It's a simple case of a school deciding that a girl who has naturally auburn hair dying her hair a questionable shade of red is not in line with their rules.

Anyways I don't "always" support authority, however, I do care that whatever discussion is taking place about an incident is at least factual. We can agree to disagree if she should have been banned or not...I personally can see how they would consider her dyed hair unacceptable...it's pretty borderline so ultimately I don't care that much.

Here's a better pic...her hair is like 3 different colors and the shade of red she is using is pretty bright...doesn't look natural at all. I was on the fence before based on the video, but here it's pretty plain as day.

Calm down? Seriously? I don't give a **** about this girls problems. But you are jumping all over the side of authority.

Why did she get banned? I don't see you posting a link to refute the OP so I'm not going to assume you are correct about that.

As for unnatural hair color....that means a color that does NOT naturally occur in humans. Blue, Green, Magenta. However, the standard colors are NOT unnatural. Brown, Red, Blonde, Black and the various shades therein.

Again...give us a link.

Yeah, seriously, you seem pretty upset. Frankly for no reason at all. Also, I'm not jumping all over the side of authority, I'm jumping on the side of truth. For a pic, check above to what I just posted. Not that I needed to post that pic you can clearly see it's not natural from her video that was posted in the OP to begin with.

Anyways I know you are trying to be real edgy and trying very hard to act as if someone looking deeper than just taking the ridiculous story at face value is licking the boots of authority...but it's just not the case.

You must be projecting. I don't take anything here seriously but it seems it's in your wheelhouse to do so or you wouldn't be assuming others are the same. Liars think everyone lies. Cheaters think everyone cheats. Thieves think everyone steals. Racists think everyone is racist. It's justification for oneself. You must be upset since you continue to think I am. You are wrong. I've told you that once....yet you persist. Look at yourself junior.

Different lighting in the pictures make the shades appear different. That's common. I cannot say without seeing the individual myself what actual shade their hair is. However, that IS a natural color. The length is a little lighter but so what? Is that really important? It's not like it's shades of blue.

You are licking the boots of authority. This isn't anything important. It's ridiculous.

So my calmly discussing the situation, showing pics, pointing out her roots, and showing how the story and the OP aren't actually saying things based on the facts is projecting. While you, who are getting in a tizzy, essentially calling me a boot-licker, cursing, and what amounts to just stamping your feet claiming I'm wrong is clearly not upset. Okidokie lol.

For posterity, here's her hair again. That is not natural looking in the least.

Oh for fucks sake are you willfully ignorant or really this clueless? When a dress code states no unnatural hair color it means hair dyed colors that are not natural for humans. Like blue, green etc. However, red hair IS natural in humans and therefore not an unnatural color. Period.

You can post all the pictures you want...but red IS a natural color for humans. You fail.

Her hair color doesn't look natural at all. It's a brighter/vibrant red than what red head typically have, and has three different colors including orange and yellow. There isn't a human alive that can would look at her hair and wonder if it's natural or not...it's so blatantly obvious that it's unnatural the fact you are getting in such a tizzy over it is really silly.

I discussed the situation calmly, based my position on the fact the OP was flat out wrong that it was her natural hair, the fact it's not a natural dye job either (bright red with orange and yellow...yeah that's real natural), and posted the relevant pics to backup what I said...while you have been acting angry and outright rude basically having a tantrum.

You can believe whatever you want to but I think the facts speak for themselves.

If it is against school policy (don't know) then that is that.

This. And her hair color is clearly not naturally red from the pics posted above.

School policy is it has to be a normal color....not like blue or green. Red is actually a normal color.

In my school you were allowed to dye your hair as long as it wasn't bright green or something. Seems a bit harsh though.
