Girl Gamers...

I just want to know how many of you are guilty of heckling the girl gamers that you do run into and why? :roll: Is it because some of us girls can beat you at your game? And what is with the whole idea that all girl gamers are fat and ugly? Can't we just be one or the other? lol ;)

my girlfriend is a girlgamer and she is skinny and beautiful, I guess i'm lucky.

I'm happy for you and your girlfriend:D its good to have a bf/gf as a gamer as well. BTW about 90 percent of the girls I play with are skinny and attractive, more so than not.. its just a false stereotype about us.

is what most "girl gamers" sound like. Maybe that's why people heckle them. I literally only know one girl IRL who's 'hot' and actually good at the games she plays, and doesn't talk like that.

Alright, I agree... the young 14-17 year old girl gamers tend to be on the games to get the boys attention and screw the game up, but don't jump to that conclusion before the game even starts that I'm the ditzy attention hungry girl gamer... I'm actually quite the opposite.. I'm 25 yrs old and tend to play games with my friends only online and NO not only halo (MW2, GOW2, ODST, all FPS). But I agree those girl gamers that you describe irritate the heck out of me.. I tend to mock them myself BUT only after they open their mouths and completely ask for it.

I only know 1 girl gamer & She never wins yo8)

Oh you girl gamers. I don't heckle them at all. A few females as officers in a clan actually helps out a lot. Although, not as many females play the games I do...as most of them are fairly hard core.

It's never bothered me. I mean, I never take too much notice unless it's a girl on the mic and I try to figure out if it's a guy or a girl talking. Other than that, who cares? Not like having a girl playing will impact the game itself.

Really it depends on the individual 'gamer'. Some girls, like my sister, are fine. Other girls who can't be quiet about how they're a gurl that plays gaems!, really annoy me. If you draw attention to yourself like that, don't complain afterwards about the heckling.

I think a nice thing about girl gamers is that many here can relate to them. However I have other hobbies I'd prefer to see in a girl since gaming isn't that big a part of my identity. Even still girl gamers have an allure, I guess I just prefer "girls who game" vs actually "gamers" which implies gaming in large quantities. Meinhard1

I wasn't aware of the difference in terminology, I apologize. I don't know what determines large quantities but the fact is that even someone as myself who plays about acouple hours every other day gets enough heckling in that time frame that I wouldn't want to play more than that, online at least, because I would frustrated too much; one, because of the guys online and two, because of the game itself. Both are nerve wrecking at times.

Ok, I think there was a misinterpretation here. I'm not saying we deserve any special attention or your protection throughout the game. I'm saying from those that do decide to take it upon themselves to heckle and mock me while I play a game, without me saying a word or drawing attention upon myself, is frequent and I just wanted to rant about these people and get their explanation of why they decide that they can't mind their own business and leave 'us' alone. You may not be one of those 'guys' but for every one of you that don't heckle us, there are 2 more that will. It happens often and I just wanted an explanation of why they are compelled to give their 'two cents' when its unwarrented. I play video games to spend time with my boyfriend and in playing for the last8 yearsI have became very good at the ones I do play and enjoy it. That being said, these fellas are ruining it.

I've seen it happen IRL, and with certain people here on GS. I assume the same must happen in-game, but I don't really know how widespread it is.

I'm rather biased on this though. From what I've seen a lot of girls have a major desire for attention, and a lot of guys are very hormone-driven. So combine that scenario with anonymity & group stupidity, and this is the end product I'm seeing.

I use to laugh whenever someone on XBL would speak and people find out its a girl, other gamers would go to great lengths to follow her around the game, try to protect her, or are quick to add as friend :lol:. I usually seen this happen in GTA4 when I had LIVE. Fuhgeddabouditt

I haven't ran into the whole 'let me protect you and be your hero' thing because I'd probably team kill to get them off my *ss.. but I agree having the mic off helps to a degree but what happens when you're just conversing with friends in apre-game lobby or whileyou're doing call outs in a game to help your team. I don't by any means ask for the attention which seems to be the consensus here by several of the members. I'm not talking about the 'teenage attention starved boy crazy girl playing games' which completely deserves all the heckling she can get... I'm referring to the older mind-my-own-darn-business-unless-its-game-related girl... now.. how are we asking to be heckled when we're trying to help save your butt from dieing by that guy around the corner? You guys have a heck of a perception against girl gamers which I'm notsaying isn't warranted, however, don't generalize or group all into one category.
