[QUOTE="Renegade_Fury"][QUOTE="Juggernaut140"] The fact that it's well known doesn't change that Tom and Jerry had no originality and was completely void of humorJuggernaut140

Like I said, not liking it is one thing, but denying its popularity is ignorance at its finest.

I didn't say that it wasn't popular :?

If you're not, then doesn't Tom and Jerry have to be one of the greatest cartoons ever by default? You don't reach this level of fame by sucking for decades. People are obviously watching them if they keep on reairing it, as well as making movies and having spin offs like Tom and Jerry kids, I don't recall Looney Tune characters doing story driven things either, and they're regarded at the same level.

[QUOTE="Juggernaut140"] Yeah, shows about reluctant heroes with annoying siblings and grandpas with mysterious pasts are SOOOOOO original :| Juggernaut140

What other cartoon show is even close to what Ben 10 and Ben 10 Alien Force in it's plot?

I also forgot about the Secret Saturdays. That show is pretty cool too. I guess we will see if it becomes better or just gets cancelled.

Gee, I wonder how many cartoons there are about characters who have to save the day with powers that they wish they didn't have...

That is just one aspect of the shows plot line.

What are you talking about? Every episode is Elmer still chasing Bugs, Wile E. Coyote still chasing Road Runner, Silvester still chasing Speedy and Tweetey, and I could go on and on. Tom and Jerry does the exact same thing, and just like Looney Tunes switches up the time and setting.

[QUOTE="travisstaggs"]Adult Swim is the only thing going on for Cartoon Network in my opinion.UnrighteousFury

I am curious. What shows of the current Adult Swim line up do you watch?

Moral Orel, Home Movies, Aqua Teen, The Boondocks, and Venture Brothers are all quality programs, I think.

And AS originals (yes, I'm counting Home Movies as an AS production), to boot.

To each their own I guess....*sigh*

New parodies? Introducing new characters? Like who and what? Gangsters, pet owners, shop owners, hunters, other animals, different time periods, different nations, an occasional partnering up? It's the same thing dude, and both shows have them anywsy. Again, obviously the formula worked if we're still watching it in 2009. You not liking it doesn't change the fact Tom and Jerry is one of the greatest cartoons of all time.

Cable sucks. I can't wait for it to die.Jandurin

No kidding. Instead of a few channels with nothing on, you have dozens of channels of nothing on.

I actually cancelled my cable about 6 months ago. I realized that between a digital HD tuner, Hulu, and Netflix, I can get everything that was worth watching on cable. And now I'm not spending $65 a month (or $800 a year) on something that wasn't that great to begin with.

A heated argument over Tom & Jerry...Now I've seen everything...

Anywho, I don't really care too much about CN's current actions; I just watch it now-a-days for Adult Swim, though even then, I don't watch it anywhere near as much as I used to...

*sigh* TV just isn;t that good these days :(...

No, they did it quite a bit actually, or at least around the same amount as Looney Tunes. The musketeer episodes come to mind, with that gray mouse with the accent. Another good one is the episode where Tom goes to hell, but comes back and tries to repent for his sins. Both shows are aiming for the same audience, so praising one and not the other makes no sense,

Ha, indeed. Though I will say that Tom & Jerry is a pretty cool cartoon. I loved watching it as a kid, I'd probably still like it if I watched it now.

All I ever watch on TV are Simpsons, gameshows, Late Night comedians such as Jay Leno (can't wait for Conan O' Brien's return 8)), and watch Adullt Swim every now and then, mostly to watch a couple animes.

Yeah, CN is pretty bad now. Its a lot different than what it was five years ago or more. All I watch on it is Family Guy on AS, they play the older shows sometimes just like TBS.

I'm pretty sure they've been showing live action movies for a while. Anyway, Adult Swim has been the only good thing on CN for a while. I wish they would just get their own seperate channel.

That would be awesome, if AS used all the extra time slots to air some of their older better shows, and some more good anime.

Are you serious? That show has an over arching story that progressed as time went on more and more. It unfolded and then became Alien Force which is even more awesome. It's writing is better than any original cartoon these days. The chaacaters became more than what they were in the past. They actually develpoed. The plots went on to a more epic story line. I think you have not even really watched the shows if you think they were as simple as you say.

axia_777

Yeah, shows about reluctant heroes with annoying siblings and grandpas with mysterious pasts are SOOOOOO original :|

What other cartoon show is even close to what Ben 10 and Ben 10 Alien Force in it's plot?

I also forgot about the Secret Saturdays. That show is pretty cool too. I guess we will see if it becomes better or just gets cancelled.

When people talk about Ben 10 and Secret Saturday being good, it really shows just how bad shows have gotten. Good thing Boomerang is starting to show more shows out of the ancient cartoon era now, as it was getting kinda old. They need to hurry up and start showing some Samurai Jack.

Cartoon Network started to fail every since My Gym Partner's a monkey and the other shows came on. Actually, when Kids Next Doors was finished. Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ed Edd and Eddy, Daxter's Laboratory, Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy, and the old toonami shows were the best.

I agree. Although, they do occasionally show Courage & Ed, Edd, & Eddy
