I really liked The Machinist. It was apparently inspired by Trent Reznor for some reason, but it was a great film.
What other good films are there that receive little or no hype?

I've mentioned Memento a few times here, but I still don't think many people know of it.

that's one of my favorites
Ikiru, Pi, and 12 Monkeys are others that I don't see mentioned or know many people who have seen them

Memento and 12 Monkeys are both awesome. Much better than some of the trash that becomes popular.
I don't think I've seen Ikiru or Pi though... checking them out now. Thanks. :)
edit: Oh, Akira Kuwosawa. Yeah I've seen Ikiru. It's brilliant, although I preferred Seven Samurai.

There are hundreds. Is there a certain, more speciifc criterea you are looking for? GettingTired
Just give a shout out to any films that are good but don't receive the praise they deserve.
A Clockwork Orange, Brick, Jacob's Ladder, Mementoetc.
I would throw in Donnie Darko but that movie has gotten decently popular over the years.
I was going to say Brick, but it looks like a few others have seen it as well. That's good. :)
Another big one is Magnolia. I love that movie.
[QUOTE="iMuffins"]The Crow is an amazing movie, and my favorite, but hardly anybody has heard of it. Same thing with The Warriors. I also enjoyed Silent Hill, but most people don't talk about it.megagene
Hardly anybody has heard of The Crow?
lol really. That movie is pretty well known. Great movie too.
I can name a hundred movies that aren't commenly spoken about today. But most of them maybe from 30+ years back so they've lost their cool and maybe they were more talked about during their time.
Here are a few from around recent years -
(Mostly anything with Christian Bale)
The Machinist, The Prestige, Equilibrium etc...
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (VERY funny movie), Donnie Brasco, Magnolia, Memento, Children of Men, Little Miss Sunshine, Wonderboys, Zodiac, American History X, The Big Lebwoski, Se7en, Traffic, Requiem for a Dream...
Obviously there's a lot more but I'm too lazy to type more of them up. But I hardly hear anyone talking about these movies. All I'm hearing is "Oh that new Ben Stiller movie was so good!"

Yeah, same thing with Donnie Brasco, Magnolia, Children of Men, Little Miss Sunshine, and American History X, and Traffic.
I live in a fraternity house, a decent sized one with a lot of guys who have varying tastes in movies. The movies I mentioned were unknown by pretty much everyone, but after people saw them, most enjoyed them.
Thats how movies like the Big Lebowski and the Boondock Saints were originally. Only a few people knew about them, before those people showed them to their friends, who showed them to their friends, who showed them to their friends, and on and on and on...
