I can name a hundred movies that aren't commenly spoken about today. But most of them maybe from 30+ years back so they've lost their cool and maybe they were more talked about during their time.

Here are a few from around recent years -

(Mostly anything with Christian Bale)

The Machinist, The Prestige, Equilibrium etc...

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (VERY funny movie), Donnie Brasco, Magnolia, Memento, Children of Men, Little Miss Sunshine, Wonderboys, Zodiac, American History X, The Big Lebwoski, Se7en, Traffic, Requiem for a Dream...

Obviously there's a lot more but I'm too lazy to type more of them up. But I hardly hear anyone talking about these movies. All I'm hearing is "Oh that new Ben Stiller movie was so good!"

I dont know where you hang, but most people I know, know Se7en, Lebowski, Requiem, Memento...

Mostly about my peers (17 year olds and such). Most of the people I talk to have never seen these movies. They may have heard about them but the've never actually seen them so they never talk about them.

Yeah, same thing with Donnie Brasco, Magnolia, Children of Men, Little Miss Sunshine, and American History X, and Traffic.

I live in a fraternity house, a decent sized one with a lot of guys who have varying tastes in movies. The movies I mentioned were unknown by pretty much everyone, but after people saw them, most enjoyed them.

Thats how movies like the Big Lebowski and the Boondock Saints were originally. Only a few people knew about them, before those people showed them to their friends, who showed them to their friends, who showed them to their friends, and on and on and on...

I know, but the point is, they're no longer obscure.

yeah I know, that was my point. Hell, some of those movies were nominated for academy awards...

I think his point was that even though they were nominated for an Acadamy Award, they still aren't commonly spoken about.

"blow" was a good movie

"goodfellas" it's talked about a lot i guess, but it kinda gets overshadowed by other gang flicks like the godfather, or scarface

I thought the point of this thread was to mention movies that have pretty much gone unnoticed by everyone. Your peers, critics, everybody. Movies that are actually good and eventually might become cult classics, like Big Trouble in Little China.

Poolhall Junkies- The acting and story are pretty mediocre, but damn is it a cool movie.

Green Street Hooligans- Awesome movie about football (as in the European one) hooliganism.

American History X- Great movie, probably Ed Norton's best.

I saw a movie called In America, and I thought it was superb. It was about an Irish family immigrating to America in the 80's it tried to show how immigrant families are still struggling as they were in the early 20th century.fidosim
I wanted to see that but haven't got around to it yet State Property, I'd be surprised if anyone here has seen it

Igby Goes Down, one of my favourite films never really got the recognition it deserved.

More obscure the French film The City of Lost Children (Le Cite des Enfants Perdue) is brilliant but had one of the worst English dubs I have come across. Unfortunately the rare DVD release with French sound and English subtitles has thus far eluded me.

Also worth a mention is Near Dark - I love vampire movies and moving the genre away from the aristocratic to Redneck vamps was inspired. The casting of several ex-Aliens actors was also perfect. No one seems to know the film, although I hope that may have changed with the new DVD release a few years ago.

like i said, low impact. Btw, Brick does NOT contain the fallowing: high octane gun battles and chases, cars that transform into robots, explicit sex scenes

unfortunately, it does contain a good story, good acting, damn!

I've recently enjoyed a movie called "match point", I don't know if it is famous or not, but it is a great movie.

There is two movies I liked also, one is called "manderlay" and the other one is "dogville".

"Freedom writers" is a great movie also.

If someone didn't see "usual suspects", he is missing one of the greatest movies in history.

I remembered "London", wow , that movie was so wonderful.

"Hard Candy" is brilliant.

"running scared"

They are all great movies to name a few.

I forgot what it was called but it went over all these philosophical ideas, compliled together in this animated way featuring this guy walking around to different people and going over different subjects about existence and all this stuff of the like. Forgot what it was called but I think it came out in 2001.

I was going to say Brick or City of God, but it seems a lot of people have seen those. I officially have one that no one here has mentioned: Once. It's the best reviewed movie of 2007 (98% on Rottentomatoes), yet almost no one has heard of it. It's probably my favorite movie of all time. Great music, a non-cliche'd love story, good acting...even if you hate romances (like I do, except for a select few like Eternal Sunshine and the two I'm about to mention), it's one of those movies that will probably win you over by the time the credits roll.

Two other movies that no one talks about that are really similar to Once are Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. Both movies are essentially two people walking around and talking, but they are great. Before Sunset is probably the best sequel I've ever seen, and it's actually better than the original.

Figures, I usually hate romance movies and the three movies I mention are all technically romances haha.

The Dark Crystal, which is my all time favorite movie. Such a visual masterpiece and I can't believe most people have never heard or seen this movie. I noticed for people who have seen it, they said it scares the living **** out of them. I don't know why. Movie never scared me when I was like 5 years old.
