Sex and money, last time I checked those are GOOD its just that it is rapped about ALL the time these days.

Silver_Dragon17

Of course, materialistic gains and wants are wonderful messages, as well as selfishness and bigotry. Especially when its rapped about ALL the time, it shows how far humanity has advanced.

/endsarcasm

IMO, Mainstream rap would be so much better if it had actually meaningful messages behind the lyrics.

I'm sure some of it does, it's just cleverly hidden behind the cussing, sex, half-naked women, gold chains, metal teeth, "pimped out" cars, sticking it to "the Man," guns, stealing, cheating, and drugs.:)

Of course, thats why I said mainstream;). There is very good rap out there, its just very obscure, and unfortunately not very popular.

[QUOTE="EboyLOL"]You know what type of musicians NEVER focus on their image rather then their music? Rock musicians :roll:luke1889

Any musician that puts image before material, i.e. form before function, is never going to produce anything worthwhile.

I agree, but the TC makes it sound as if the only musicians who do this are rap musicians. Image before material is not exclusive to a genre.

You want to know how desperate Rappers are getting to try to promote their CD's?

T.I.'s next single, coming conviently right in time for the football season

Kanye West and 50 Cent have to place their albums on the same day (September 11th irony much) so it will be looked at as a competition for their albums to even be noticed.

When rappers have to promote their albums around current events, you know somethings wrong:lol:

Apocalypse33

T.I. has already gone platinum, and do you know what album was number 1 last week? damn High School Musical 2, that is when you know something has gone wrong.

I thought that movie had some good music.

I hate rap and hip hop. While there are a few talented artist (Missy Elliot comes to mind,) it not about the actual music, its the whole gansta culture that goes with it. It may sound stupid but I feel that rap is ruining scocety. Just drive turn on MTV. Rappers like 50 Cent have developed this subculture where your only goal is to get rich, do drugs, and have sex with as many women as possible. They look down upon educated people. Their whole state of mind is selfishness. Just watch an episode of Cribs. Songs like "This is Why I'm Hot" and "Party Like a Rockstar" put these ideas in kids heads that its all about them and getting rich instead of helping your fellow human beings. Ask any rapper what they think about the genocide in Darfur or illegal wiretapping. They don't care about those kind of issues. They care about smacking hoes. Not to mention destroying the English language with Eubonics.

But there is hope. Rap sales have dropped 44% since 2000. Hopefully this continues and this horrible subculture disappears and people start caring more about each other than money. (Though, that ain't likley)

This is true to an extent, because each genre has its own 'appearance', if you will.

why are you listening to music for good messages? you should listen because its MUSIC and you like it.Mainstream isn't the only kind of rap out there, there are ones with good messages.

A) Sales don't mean anything. Even if rap starts to sell less, dedicated artists will still put out their work.

B)The whole "Gangsta" culture isn't the same with all rappers, just some mainstream ones.

C) at Missy Elliot

Missy Elliot . Rap isn't going away so fast so don't get your hopes up. The MTV rap is still in full affect even if abbum sales are down, because millions of people download it illegally and the majority are teens who are inspired by it. If you actually knew something about rap you'll see that for the past few weeks the number one albums have been rap, the good kind (Common and UGK). So wake up, all music sales are going down.shaza91

unfortunately he speaks the truth :(

sure every bad thing that happens to rap is a good thing but unfortunately bad things are happening to the whole spectrum of music genres... all sales are down purely because of ilegal downloading.

Missy Elliot Lol. anyway the reason why Rap sales are crashing is because of the rise in torrenting and crap. also free mixtapes are being distributed on the streets which is the fastest way of getting the latest singles in the industry right now.
