Using the wrong "their" or "your" is pretty terrible, imo.Meinhard1

Especially when they use "you're" istead of "your".

Maybe the person isn't concerned with spelling and grammar.

Maybe the person never passed middle school English. At least that's what it seems like when they make an obvious error. It's one thing to be talking to a friend, and another to try to prove a point. Either way, I always try to spell things properly because it makes it easier to read and it's a good habit. When you make errors it not only makes you look lazy, but it also makes what you're saying harder to understand. Out of curiosity, how old are you PrototypeTheKid?

The worst is when someone uses two different forms of there/their/they're for the same meaning. It's like they just randomly pick one each time, thinking they can all apply to anything.

I think that's funny. Only a humorless and knee jerking twit would get pissy about that.

I was expecting you to be younger. Does it bother you at all if someone shortens words, such as "ur" instead of "your"? On an old cell phone I suppose it's understandable, but anything else it just seems lazy. If it takes you that much longer to type it out, then you're just a bad typist.

No real things bother me, that actually effect people. People leeching off welfare/government. Real problem. Kids getting killed for living in **** neighborhoods. Real problem. Syria/Iran current conflicts. Real problem. Spellings like "ur" "doood" "omgwtf". uhmmm.....?

Whiteknight has a a habit of blowing small errors out of proportion dave123321

I do not do so. I just point out that what they are trying to say makes no sense. One will be taken seriously when one uses proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Also, this is the third such topic in as many days. Will there be more in the coming days?

To be fair, when you put death and international conflicts into the talk, nothing mundane is a problem. I still think the way you write depends on what you're writing - if it's an article or an essay, it's alright to expect perfect cohesion and grammar - but if you're talking about video games,

as long as we can understand what you're trying to say, all is game.

Illiteracy can effect people. If someone can't manage to grasp the spelling of simple words and common grammar, then chances are they won't be able to land a very great job. Spellcheck can only go so far. I'm not sure if MS Word will look through your document to see if something like there/their/they're is being used correctly based on the sentence. You may see that as minor, but someone in a hiring position could see it as lazy. For me personally, I wouldn't say it's a huge concern of mine, but it is a bit annoying to have to re-read something because someone can't manage to word things properly. To each their own I guess.

what are you doing about it? If nothing or very little is your answer, then why bring it up? I like when people do that, nothing towards you, the whole Louis CK "Durr you shouldn't be angry because (insert group is being affected by insert disease/war/famine)" and when you ask them what are they doing about it, they'll just stand there awkwardly shrugging their shoulders.."I don't know....Nothing I guess." In regards to informal writing, I only criticize grammar usage that is so bad that it renders the writer's work unintelligible, unclear, or significantly difficult to read in some other way.

I don't know if this makes me a "Grammar Nazi" or a "Grammar Nazi sympathizer", but I almost always ignore a post if it is poorly written. One or two small errors, or even the occasional incorrect utilization of a word (their/they're or effect/affect) is easy to overlook as the impact is minimal. Even the occasional broken sentence can be ignored, as perhaps the writer had a mid-sentence change of thought and didn't edit it or proofread it. If the whole post borders on unreadable, I assume that debating the writer is beneath me, even though I don't consider myself brilliant or elitist. I just assume that the post was written by someone who couldn't learn to read and write, so why validate their point with a sophisticated response they haven't proven they can comprehend?
