lol these bikes are made to support heavy people, it's not like there's wheels to worry about. The gym probably wants to maintain an image of good looking people attending it, and a fatty walking around is bad for their image. Pretty ridiculous, but whatever.F1_2004

[QUOTE="th3warr1or"]Um, I don't know how she even got pregnant at that size... :| I don't really wanna be mean, but seriously how? rawsavonWhat does that have to do with it :? Well if she is trying to act like being fat was in no way her own fault, and that she's doing everything to be healthy then it makes people more sorry for her. But if she was just fat all her life then when she finally made an effort by joining a gym it was too late then its her own damm fault and we shouldn't be sorry for her.
"Sandra Ruiz says she joined Mademoiselle Fitness Center to work off the extra weight she gained while she was pregnant..."
You would have to be some kind of psycho to gain that much "extra weight" from pregnancy.
If it is true that the staff constructed a workout plan for her and were worried about the equipment then I don't see how they're in the wrong here. It's sad, but a woman that large actually could ruin equipment.
She should've just followed the workout regimen they gave her. I'm sure they know more about fitness than her.
It's her fault for being so fat. If she's a danger to the equipment then why allow her on it?

thats one end of the spectrum
I agree, if she is a risk to the equipment and/or herself, then she should be forbidden from using it.
However, I dont think this is a proper attitude to take concerning the obese: we have an overweight woman who is striving to get healthy, so we can't exactly discourage her. There are a lot of hypocrites out there that like to say how easy it is to stay skinny and in shape, yet the second they see a fat person in the gym they just love to criticize them. I have been victim to that before, which is one of a few reasons why it is so hard for me to go to the gym sometimes.
In short, I think that the gym should recommend some alternate exercises or allow a 20-minute consultation or something with a trainer so the woman can get an idea of some safe, equipment-free exercises that will help her drop weight

...I am saying what does being fat have to do with getting pregnant

The fitness center's owner also said staff created a workout regimen just for Ruiz that included water aerobics, but said she was "like a kid in a candy store" with the gym's machines and wanted to try them all immediately, according to the station.

She declined the offergiven to her bythe staff. That plan could have slimmed her down to the acceptable weightto use the workout machines.

They said water arobics. Walking helps along with eating right. Also, women can gain a lot of weight after a pregnancy, so everybody needs to stop jumping to conclusions. You know, if someone were anorexic everyone would feel sorry for them, but when someone is fat everybody is so quick to make fun of them. How is she supposed to lose the weight then? If they won't let her excercise . . . .

ahh I did not see that, good for the gym
and *wags finger* shame on the fat lady...we fat people dont need fatasses (stereotypical fat people) hurting our reputation any more lol
She doesn't need a gym, she is big enough that just walking would drastically help her. People like her don't have any realism in how the want results and should do more research on how the body works and work with that information. Just going to a gym doesn't fix her problem.Human-after-allwell of course not. she needs to actually use the equipment and...............oh
I didn't know pregnancy could cause 300 pounds of weight gain. :?
I see no fault on part of the gym. They specifically told her about the weight limits and she obviously chose to ignore their concerns for both her and their equipment. Good on the owner to rescind her contract and waive the cancellation fee.
Yup.. all that fat is from having a baby.. suuurrrreee. Can't blame the club, if shes gonna break their **** they have to protect it. Although if they aren't going to let her use the EQ, then they should let her out of her contract. fastrI agree. I don't think there's an exercise machine on the planet that doesn't have some sort of weight limit on it. If you exceed it, you become a danger to the equipment and to your self.
That having been said, if the gym cannot provide her with the service she is paying for, they should allow her out of the contract as you said.
They do this in Minot, ND as well. Unfortunately obesity was a big problem up there, and gyms couldn't afford to fix equipment.
I agree that the gym was merely looking out for their equipment, but they should say that up front. They should have a section in their contract about weight limits on exercise equipment. I mean, I use my gym for the equipment. There would be no reason for me to go otherwise.
The gym worker could have probably handled it better as well. She could have taken her aside and told her, instead of saying it in front of everyone.
The owner said because of the strange circumstances that he was willing to refund her money and wave the leaving before X date fee, pretty cool of them (or they're saving their asses from getting sued)
I bet they (and most other gyms) will make up a new contract specifically saying no people of X weight allowed on equipment, which they should have done to begin with
