[QUOTE="KlownMaster"]Wow this was an intresting read, I'm gonna have to agree with Pirate 700, nobody wants to know if your gay don't ask don' tell.solid_mario
I don't think that you have worded that properly. Either that or I disagree with what you say. It comes across that you think that gays should stay in hiding or keep their sexuality secret, which seems homophobic in my opinion.

I don't think he's asking gays to hide their sexual orientation. He's saying nobody really cares if you feel insulted ONLINE. Like I said, being an Asian-American I've dealt with racism on and offline. It's a matter of how you cope with it. In real life, you can beat the **** out of them. Online however, the most you can do is ignore it. What the hell is the point in letting some random dude get to you? That's obviously what they are trying to do.

[QUOTE="xaos"][QUOTE="Mikeyspikey0"]to the TC: Ok, think of it this way: do you, other gays, or gays in general sometimes feel awkward when people are talking about heterosexual "doings" in xbox live, or, just in general life? If so then, basically, you are the same as us. When gay people talk about, well, gay stuff, we feel awkward, so we act differently. if gay people where suddenly a majority in society, us straight would feel overpowered. So then some of you guys that have experienced hatred would start getting back at all of us for only what some of us have done. its how it is in life. there will never be a time when each of us will have a "balanced scale" Its the same with racism. Also, this is a warning saying that, if you say anything to do with you being gay you're most likely going to get flamed at. Even if you didn't do anything. I suppose you could say, that when you diside that you are gay and that's who you are, you accept that you will get this in life.

No, I don't feel awkward around straight people; I have no choice, since I'm embedded in a gigantic cauldron of straight culture. And no one I know ever "disided" to be gay

Would you change your mind if the majority of people in society where gay? also, I don't see how people can have gay genes". I can't see how people are born gay Its your choice if you want to be gay or not. its all up there. FYI, i don't want to sound like I'm offending gays here.

I don't know, and neither does anyone else, since such a world doesn't exist. And I'm not arguing that it is genetic (though expression of genes is certainly a lot more complicated than you seem to suggest), I'm just saying that I and every other gay person I know never sat down and said to themselves "I think I'll be gay now!"

I've heard may times, people say that gays are born, gay. And I'm also not saying that the choice happens in an instant. It obviously takes some thought.

It really isn't "up there". Every single gay person I know said that they were always gay (all 3 of them  ). To the TC, straight people aren't embedded into a gay society and surely you could understand the awkwardness and connatations that the word gay brings up. Most people will ignore it, especially if they aren't sitting behind a wall of anomity. When they are, however, behind this wall, they say what they want just because they can. That's why there is so much racism and homophobia. It sucks but surely you are old matture enough to ignore the morons of the internet?

Use your "Mute" button and quit complaining. This isn't rocket science. If someone annoys you, insults you ect. Mute them, bad rep, report, and then continue on your match.

A custom game is still public. Seriously, nobody needs not WANTS to know about you being gay nor your gay escapades. You know nobody does so just keep it to yourself and play the game.

Pirate700

people ask me SEVERAL times the following: "are you gay or something" in those exact words ALMOST EVERYGAME I PLAY. I DON"T EVEN BRING IT UP, but i tell them i am because i don't like lying about myself and i get all these slanders and such. NOT MY FAULT, GAMING COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE SHOULD BE A LITTLE MORE OPEN MINDED.

If they are asking you, then like I assumed, you are probably pretty flaming gay Maybe tone it down a little. Have you thought about that?

i'm not flaming gay i'm not all flamboyant when i go online at all. they ask this question TO EVERONE ONLINE, like their trying to weed us out or something. i talk and play EXACTLY LIKE ANY OTHER PERSON WOULD. it's kind of ridiculous actually.

Trust me, nobody is asking random people if they're gay if they don't sound as such. You could also just ignor them. There are a lot of answers and you chose to do none of them. You sound like you just crave attention.

Are you gay

Not it's not. Given the choice, I would have chosen to be a heterosexual.

What did you expect. Teenagers don't like gay people just like they don't like whatever else isn't mainstream. Plus gay people are just fun to make fun of because they are funny and insecure.

fun to make fun of? funny and insecure? that is extremely stereotypical and extremely offensive.

Why do you need to be openly gay online for games? Unless you sound flaming or something HTF would anyone even know? Sounds like you are just looking for attention. :?Pirate700

.... people online talk about sexual stuff.... and everything with it.... if someones gay they shouldn't have to say they are straight to feel like a part of the community.....

No offense TC, but that's the internet for you. When you're incognito, you can say w/e comes to your mind without having to severely ponder the consequences of your actions. My suggestion to you would be to not flaunt your sexual preference, and simply ignore the immature people online that rip on you for who you are.

I don't care about ones sexuality when I play online, I just hope the team/guys I play with have read the controls in the manual before they jumped in.

So you're lighting a match in a room full of gunpowder. Very smart. Telling people on XBL that you're gay will only lend to insults and more. You bring it upon yourself, lad.

Really how do you do that? I'm straight but it's hardly like I go into a game and let everyone know that.

Also, let me introduce you to a general rule of internet gaming:

You don't want to hide who you are? Oh brother. Tell me. Have you ever seen anyone openly come out and say, "I'm straight" on XBL? I've been gaming on XBL since 2002, and I can tell you that I have NOT heard anyone say such a thing. Telling people you're gay is unnecessary similar, to just like telling people you're straight is unnecessary. Again, if someone gives you crap -- just mute him and go on. Complaining about it fixes nothing, lad.

The_Flush and thekoroth are gay and they seem like nice people, and ithink the darknight6 iss bi and he seems like a nice fella, as long as you don't shout on VOIP about your explicit sex life then it dosn't bother me in the slightest... though that isn't exclusive to gaysmarkop2003

Yep, pretty much what I was thinking. I dont have anything against gay posters on Ot or Xbox Live for that matter.

Just some people do not like it being flaunted in their faces at times.

Insensitive? Disowns? God, dude, grow some balls. All the 'n' words spouted on Live, the gay bashing, the supposed hatred there is hardly indicitive of any 'injustice'.

I don't even like when people do that. I won't refrain from mentioning it, if it is actually brought up in conversation (it never has been on xbl) but going out of your way to say something about it is just a call for trouble.

And you wouldn't have been if you'd kept your mouth shut or if you did yourself any justice and muted the damn guys being immature or obnoxious. Play your games, mute those who annoy you, and enjoy your experience. You brought this upon yourself and yet you claim yourself as the victum? Cry me a river, lad -- that mute button is there for a reason. Use it to shut those damn guys up, so you can enjoy your online matches. If you don't, then that's your own damn fault. I don't sympathise you or anyone else who crys about XBL -- it's a mean world out there, if someone has a different opinion or belief than you, then oh well. Deal with it. :|

People pick on everybody else for damn near everything. I have Americans shouting at me for being British, people shouting at me for having long hair and for liking heavy metal. If you paint a target on yourself, you really shouldn't be surprised if people take a shot at you.

Insensitive? Disowns? God, dude, grow some balls. All the 'n' words spouted on Live, the gay bashing, the supposed hatred there is hardly indicitive of any 'injustice'. :roll:bigdcstile
Grow some balls? why don't you ask that to the thousands of gamers who gay bash on LIVE. it may not be an "injustice" but that doesn't make it wrong.

[QUOTE="Boostinsane"]i'm being TREATED DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE OF MY SEXUALITY and it seems that there is a strong consensus in the gaming community that gay people should be treated like crap. you may think it's an opinion to bash on gays online now but man the way things are going, IT'S GOING TO BE DANG NEAR CUSTOMARY TO DO SO. homosexuals make up a very small minorty of society, and an even smaller one in the gaming community. don't we want as many people enjoying video games as possible? shouldn't gaming be more inclusive than exclusive? don't you want the art to stay alive? if you do stevo, than why can't you sympathize with my -- and everyother homosexual gamer's -- situation?Stevo_the_gamer

i'm dealing with it right now, by means of formal complaint and request for, at the very least, awareness. why does the world have to be so cruel anyways? it doesn't have to be that way and you thinking that that's just the way things are isn't going to make the world any better.

[QUOTE="TheFlameProof"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]You sound like a guy that takes things too seriously and can't take a joke. Lighten up. :lol:DabsTight703

you think this is some sort of joke? i'm trying to push thoughtful discussion about what i think is a pretty serious cultural issue in the gaming world and the only feedback i'm getting from you is "oh man this guy is an attention whore." i'm asking for complete corporation and i also ask to stick to the topic and try not to make this thread 100% totally about me please. thanks.

Yeah it's a joke. Hell, I've had to deal with racism on Live but you don't see me going here to whine about it. People on Live are going to make fun of gays regardless of whether you like it or not. So you can do one of two things. 1) Realize it's a freaking joke and if it was an insult, IGNORE IT. 2) Whine about it to a bunch of people that are probabaly the same people on Live that make fun of homosexuals in the first place.

BAM! PWN3D!!

Also, "Complete corporation"! LOL

I must say that I agree 100% with everything Pirate 700 has said. My verdict: TC is a sniveling attention whore who refuses to accept that there are dozens of provided solutions to the problem (you being flamed on Live, not you being gay.)

And anyway, what the hell does you you playing an FPS have to do with you sexuality?? They should be totalyy unrelated.

[QUOTE="Pirate700"]Why do you need to be openly gay online for games? Unless you sound flaming or something HTF would anyone even know? Sounds like you are just looking for attention. :?Boostinsane
why would it matter if i brought it up? cause i play with my bf online on halo sometimes and we talk about drinking and going to clubs and all we ever get is hate speech. other people can talk about similar straight activites online and not get bothered about it why can't we do the same with our activities, thoughts, and feelings and still have the same kind of respect?

It seems that private chat is the answer here....

key word....openly.....i mean, there are those people who use that 3 letter word that starts with an F, i don't like that, and there are a lot of immature people online. if you were openly gay then that was kind of your fault

Boostinsane

well guys are openly straight on Xbox live and they don't get treated like crap, why can't i be openly gay it's not like i'm being explicit or anything when i talk to my bf on XBL (like about sex or anything) so like what's the problem?

Well maybe, it's because being gay is not normal.

So cliche.

People have the right to believe whatever they so please, if they want to be prejudice against homosexuals, then they have the right to believe such. What you believe is wrong or right does not dictate what others believe.

Seriously, you can't boo hoo about this. It is what you are so just accept it, if people call you names, they're just calling you what you are. Why can't gay people just get over this.USSJAndrew

Well, I have yet to meet a gay guy that is composed of bundels of sticks. Just saying.

socializing = building a stronger bond with your teammates to reach a common goal. those who progress in games such as halo 3, COD4, or Gears are usually those that can work well with each other through active communitcation. sometimes this communication isn't always related to things happening in the warzone. soilders, for instance, are required to trust each other and bond with each other usually BEFORE they go off to war in order to survive. sexuality comes up sometimes (for heteros: "oh dude, remember that hot chick...") before ranked games and during custom games as part of this bonding experiance. that's how it's related.

Yeah, all those protests with "God hates [ed: men who eat carpet]" must be really upsetting to you.

Protip: You don't have to answer statements about "hot chicks", especially in games heavily populated by frat boys.
