[QUOTE="GazaAli"][QUOTE="SaudiFury"] i'll find you at the bar? i wanna get one of those froo froo drinks with little umbrella's in them, that's a manly man's drink right?

Darkman2007

I don't think I'd drink, but I'm really tempted to, because of "I drink to forget".

ironic, youre a Muslim and you want to drink , Im a Jew and I avoid alcohol completly. the irony.

yes but its the muslim countries who completely ban alcohol :)

Way to please god. Dont you think theres more value in willingly avoiding alcohol when its available to you then instead banning alcohol completely so its impossible to buy? whats the value of religious laws if its only done by force.

That's one way to look at it. Though the way I see it is that its easier to escape it sense there is no sense in the air due to being in a western country. Here its impossible to escape it because its everywhere...

yup. basically forced religious observance is not a sign of devout piousness. it's theater.

actually take that back. it's forced audience particpation theater with legal and physical reprecussions for not participating.

at least in theaters, the actors are there voluntary.

Eid in America is boring as hell as well. there is no sense of holiday spirit, nothing like it's in the middle east.

like western countries, who make pathetic laws like "don't drink while driving" really? while driving? what are we fvcking childrens? you wont really care until you are affected by another idiot drinking that crap, you wouldn't think other countries who have so much violence reports, killings, accidents, domestic abuse in the family would be all toned down if alcohol was banned?

When people do drink and drive, it makes the news. You act like everyone in the West is walking around drunk. And even if alcohol was outlawed, it would still be purchased underground.

Interesting.GazaAli
of course it does look down on excessive drinking, with the exception of Purim , so there is nothing encouraging drinking as such , its a drink for celebrations, and is usually kept for this purpose.

it would be then purchased underground, because those countries failed to tackle all these abuses at the source of all these crimes, now because alcohol has been so glorified, people cannot let it go, if you look at how the our creator banned it first in the middle east, he did it in stages, first commanding men to not drink before prayers, then eventually banning it, as it is something which weakens a man and his morals, again, you wouldn't give a crap until one day in life you are affected by it.

okay. the original point was that muslims in the ME cant be commended for abstaining from drink.....since even if they wanted to, they couldnt buy it

I really really want to try alcohol, it fits the occasion rather well.GazaAli

Don't do it brah,

My bro's friends once brought some junk in our home to store, one of those boxes was filled with alcohol... and I mean really expensive alcohol from all over the world: scotch, whiskey, vodka, w/e etc etc...

I used to hold the bottles and say: meh.. maybe I should open one. Was kinda tempted when I was really a downer, but thankfully I never did.

My parents knew about it, and they knew my bro was not a drinker.. just his lowsy non muslim friends. It was for safekeeping... but my dad usually nagged and pressured my bro until he got rid of em.

Interesting. Where in Canada are you from? In Toronto, more specifically Scarborough, you can tell when Eid is. Especially when companies Rogers advertise free long-distance to Asian countries and free previews of Asian channels. Although I agree, people aren't celebrating like crazy. :P

I think if you're into that kind of thing, there's this place in Toronto known as 'Gerrard St.' which is super festive around any south-asian festival/celebration (i.e. Diwali, Eid) :P

[QUOTE="GazaAli"]I really really want to try alcohol, it fits the occasion rather well.TehFuneral

Good on you then, I never know what to make of the alcohol situation with Muslims, maybe because I know many who drink like fishes.

If you don't want to drink alcohol, find a better reason than "because my religion says I can't"Lonelynight

I can find lots of reasons not to, there are a lot of reasons on how bad alcohol is on health... and knowing myself, im gonna drink to forget not for taste, which would make me an addict.

How do you feel about wine used to make certain foods then? (Not trying to 'one-up' you, serious question :P )

I tried alchole once, just one sip and it wasn't cold ... I dun know if it was high qaulity or not but as my sip was going down through my esophegus, I felt it was like "burning" ... anyway I wouldn't recommend it on Eid, may be after it.

Dun comment on this post, it's almost OT to the main title, and I dun wanna start a war here :D .

I'm fine with all of those reasons. I can't really drink alcohol myself, one sip, and I'll have a sore throat.

I'd avoid any foods with trace alcohol in them, simply because they can act as a stimuli.

[QUOTE="VaguelyTagged"][QUOTE="FMAB_GTO"]OH right,I'll be in a marriage party in Eid =PLonelynight
let us know if the bride is hot.

She lives in the middle east, I doubt that she would be able to know what the bride looks like.

Actually most Arab brides don't cover on their wedding day.

i've only drank alchohol willfully when i went to the bars with my boyfriend back a few months ago.

I kinda figured "i'm already doing a heinous sin so this will pale in comparison".

suffice to say i don't care for it really. I didn't get drunk, i just didn't like the taste for it (maybe need to try out some of those famous German/Belgium beers i keep hearing about), but also that wad of cash that left my wallet by the end of the night.

and since then i've just remained avoiding achohol.

only other time i've ever drank alchohol has been unwittingly. Like going to Amsterdam. did not know they put it in coffee.
