[QUOTE="MrGeezer"][QUOTE="Film-Guy"][QUOTE="MrGeezer"][QUOTE="Film-Guy"]I'm sure their is alcoholism in the U.K, but I dont think its alcoholism until it freaking runs their life, a drink wont kill you.

Congratulations, you don't understand alcoholism.
So If I drink a pint of guiness at a pub that makes me an alcoholic? There is a huge difference between casual drinking and alcoholism. When its a real problem and you think you need it and it runs your life then its alcoholism, if you have the occasional drink casually then its not.
Have you ever heard the term "functional alcoholic"?
Ever known someone who has to keep a bottle of liquor in their car so that they can drink during their lunch break, otherwise they start developing withdrawal symptons that HURT their ability to hold a job?
Alcoholism is NOT dependent on whether or not you have a good life, whether or not you have liver disease, or whether or not you're living in the gutters begging for change in order to buy booze. Alcoholism is ADDICTION to alcohol. A NEED for alcohol. Many alcoholics have good jobs and have good relationships, but are only able to do so BECAUSE they are constantly drinking. That is a fairly common trait of many addictions, the need to do it just to function normally. This is especially apparent with alcohol, given that alcohol is one of the few drugs where people can become so addicted that QUITTING can kill them. People can become so dependent on alcohol that they ****ING DIE if they stop. Alcoholism is a horrible affliction, and it's just plain stupid and irresponsible to suggest that people suffering from it are being irresponsible by abstaining from it completely.
You really dont seem to be following what I am saying here at all... I have known alcoholics before, I know the difference between alcoholic and somebody who has a drink every once in a while. You seem to think that anybody who drinks is an alcoholic in some way, that is simply not true. I apoligize if I am reading you wrong, but it seems every time I say casual drinker you contradict it with some other kind of alcoholism.
Casual drinkers are not the issue.
I don't think that casual drinkers are alcoholics, I SIMPLY DON'T CARE ABOUT CASUAL DRINKERS.
I was ALWAYS talking exclusively about alcoholics. I love to drink, I drink every night, and I am a little bit drunk right now, but I don't even classify myself as an alcoholic, because I do NOT need alcohol, and I have SEEN alcoholics. And as far as alcohol consumption goes, I'm pretty much a lightweight compared to most of my coworkers and acquaintances, and I would suspect very few of them of being alcoholics either.
But I wasn't talking about me, I was never talking about drunk people at parties, I was never talking about someone who likes a few glasses of wine with a good dinner. I was talking about ALCOHOLICS. South Park's message applied to ALCOHOLICS. Randy Marsh thought that he was an ALCOHOLIC, and the big message was "don't quit, just drink a little bit".
And that is NOT the kind of ****ing advice that you give ALCOHOLICS.
That's ALL I'm saying. That particular episode of South Park was stupid not because it dealt with drinking, but because it dealt with ALCOHOLISM, and its "solution" was absolutely moronic.
If you think that I have some kjind of vendetta against alcohol, you are VERY freaking mistaken. I LOOOOVE my alcohol, and yes, when I'm drinking socially, I'm usually among the first of the people in my party to stop and say "I've had enough".
I can have a few drinks without losing control. A lot of people CAN'T. And those people need to not be drinking AT ALL.
