http://www.religiondispatches.org/dispatches/husseinrashid/4333/tea_party_organizes_islamophobic_hate_rally/

The following video was shot at a Tea Party protest of a fundraiser for homeless and domestic abuse shelters. The reason the Tea Partiers are there is because the fundraiser was hosted by Muslims. As you can see, they scream some of the most hateful things at the participants, including at young children.

Later on, a GOP elected official says she wants the Marines to kill Muslims. But don't say the teabaggers are a bigoted group of idiots. 'Cuz that's just mean.

Silly teabaggers, they do realize they are splitting the republican party making it basically impossible for a GOP candidate to win in 2012 right?

Hate is allowed in a free society....and it happens all the time. I find it pointless to generalize and hate...but it seems common.

Teabagger: "We love our constitution! One nation under god, not Allah!" That's from the pledge of allegiance which ironically kind of contradicts the actual constitution, which forbids religion from government... Seriously, you'd think these people couldn't embarrass themselves any further. And how the hell can these people call these good people that are fundraising for domestic abuse victims; "wifebeaters"... Absolutely pathetic.

The Tea party? Why am I not surprised? Typical brain-dead Glann Beck fans who think all muslims are suicide bombers.

I am in no way defending the actions of those protesters, but there was a little more behind their protest than just a charity event.
The Orange County Register states that the original plan was to protest the speakers at the event, a fairly normal occurence in American civic life. I do not believe the American Muslim community should give a platform to people who support designated terrorist organizations, or espouse anti-Semitic rhetoric. The speaker in question, Amir Abdel Malik Ali, was cited by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a "bigoted speaker." article

Ok, well then hate is allowed in any society, no matter it's level freedom. You might as well have said hate exists... I figured since we were talking about the protest you were referencing free speech laws, in which case hate speech is actually limited.

OK, but if you were a Tea Partier, wouldn't it give you pause that these are the sorts of people who shared parts of your ideology? Wouldn't it make you question some of your own beliefs, even momentarily?

the same argument can be made for why don't more muslims speak out against the acts of the crazies among them... just because there are idiots who call themselves muslims or tea party members doesn't mean they all fit the same mold.

I wouldn't dispute that but I think it makes sense to publicize the actions of radicals like this as much as possible. There are clearly people within the Tea Party movement who are racist or xenophobic and other people in the movement should be aware of that and publicly disassociate themselves. Otherwise you could have a situation where some of them rise to leadership roles.

Well, your ideas had to come from somewhere. I find it highly unlikely that anyone could form an entire political ideology without some influence from others.

If I were a Tea Partier and saw this, I would just be very careful about looking into the views of other people involved in the movement and make sure I wasn't influenced by people like the ones in the video.

Nah, it's just more convenient to categorize large political groups as entirely homogeneous entities with zero deviation from one person to the next.

People are much less influenced as they get older. Iv'e build the main structure of my beliefs, there may be little things that will change a bit but all in all, I'm set on my beleifs and I don't thing hanging around a racist person for example will turn me racist. If your really worried about being influened by something. I would suggest turning off the propaganda tube.

That might be true, but if you're supporting a group that includes racist elements and some of them came to power, you would be supporting racism. Just pretending that they aren't there doesn't make sense.

Thats true, but the tea party doesn't have a "list" of what the group beleives in, it's kind of a hodge podge of republicans with the same general beleifs, and just because one group of TP's have a certain beleif doesn't mean I share that beleif, even though I support the general aspects of what the tea party is suppose to stand for.

ok so you have nutcases screaming at kids you also have people bringing children to hear the message of a speaker who is on record with quotes like these.

Also among Malik-Ali's notable quotes and positions are the following:

  • "The enemies of Islam know that when we come back to power we're gonna check 'em."
  • "Stay conscious and ask Allah to raise the Muslims and give us victory over the disbeliever."
  • "When it's all over, the only one standing is gonna be us [Muslims]."
  • "Sooner or later, today's Muslim students will be the parents of Muslim children. And they should be militants."
  • "Neo-cons are all Zionist Jews."
  • "The wars against Iraq [Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom]were manufaccture by jews in America to avert attention from the two [Palestinian] Intifadas."
  • "You [Jews] made all the mistakes we wanted you to make. You went after [former Georgia congresswoman] Cynthia Mckinney. So now black folks don't like you.... You're walking into all the traps we want you to walk into. You hijacked American foreign policy."
  • "[T]he Israelis were in control of 9-11," which"was staged to give an excuse to wage war against Muslims around the world."
  • Israelis ought to return "to Germany, to Poland, to Russia. The Germans should hook y'all up. You [Israelis] should go back to Germany."
  • "In America, you're mostly fighting with your tongue, but you should also learn how to fight with the sword."
  • At the SixthAnnual Muslim Student Association Conference held at UC Berkeley in February 2004,Malik-Ali denounced "the white man, who is the enemy."

i'm not defending anyone and i don't hate anyone i'm saying if you invite a hate speaker to your thing don't be shocked when protesters turn up and freak out.

The problem was, they weren't protesting the speaker.

"The Orange County Register states that the original plan was to protest the speakers at the event..."

no responce for 20 mins? ok then my turn again.

see. here we reach the fundamental problem when trying to comment on something like this.

as soon as you begin to dig a little deeper and say hmmm, that's horrible lets see what sort of reason could there be for this to turn so ugly.

here comes the smokescreen.

YOU ARE A BIGOT!!! YOU HATESISIS THE MUSLIMS!!!

it's a tactic to make one group look like victims and one look innocent.

lets say i decide to have a fundraising rally to save homeless puppys from kill shelters.

then i invite well known puppy lover and white supremacist david duke to speak at my puppy fund rally. http://www.nndb.com/people/210/000024138/

can anyone see where i may have made a mistake?

Hmmm.... funny -- I'm sure I've seen that kind of mentality at work before... reminds me of a certain political party that rose to power in Germany in the 1930's...

Comparing people you disagree with to Nazis is pretty original.
