Loki was a bland, derivitive villain, drivien by shallow greed. The only reasion were talking about him was because the Avengers is bloody good film.

Joker was a far more interesting character, with questionable intentions and brilliantly portrayed by Ledger.

Its such a shame he had to pass away, or I think we would have seen more of the character.

I actually agree with the TC on this one, I do think a lot of the hype for the joker is because he killed himself afterwards... loki was a solid villain for a solid super hero movie i guess that would be the rub with me, I personally don't see the latest batman movies as being a 'super hero' movie but just another ridiculously dark tortured hero movie, batman was not 'super', he was just dark so I choose loki because I actually enjoyed the avengers movies and want to see it again, whereas I don't care to see ledger as the joker again...

I agree

Put it this way. I didn't go to the Dark Knight to see Batman, I went to see the Joker as millions of others did. And when we left he was the highlight of the whole movie.

For the Avengers I didn't go to see Loki and when I left the cinema he was one of the last things on my mind. He was good but far from Ledger's Joker.

I do like Loki and Joker but they are two different characters and aren't really too comparable (other than the fact that they are psychotic villians). As far as acting goes, Ledger was better.

Also TC is forgetting Ledger got an Oscar for his acting in TDK. And that wasn't cos he died it was cos he did a superb job.

Hiddleston wouldn't even get nominated for the acting in the Avengers. He was good but not Oscar worthy

I don't even need to watch The Avengers to know that Heath Ledger is better, he was pretty much what made The Dark Knight awesome.

It works for The Avengers, they had to concentrate on the development of the team. That meant less screen time and focus for the antagonist. If there was a super involved deep story with a classic graphic novel shadowy villain, the film wouldnt have worked.

For that reason Loki, in the case of the Avengers will never be one of the great vilains.

Not to beat a dead horse, but to put it another way... When Ledger and Bale are in a room together, you are rarely paying attention to Bale - and he's *Batman*. Ledger totally stole the film away from him. When Hiddleston and Downey Jnr (or Hemsworth, or Johansson, or...) are in a room together, you're not paying much attention to Hiddleston. Sure, a lot of that was from directing and scripting and so on, but the point remains - Loki didn't command as much of a presence as the Joker.

And also because he was in Thor. So they couldn't redevelop his character.

Fail. In Tim Burton's Batman, in Batman: The Animated Series, in the Batman games, and in the comics, The Joker does make jokes. YOU don't know what you're talking about.

BluRayHiDef

Sorry, I left out the word good. He doesn't make good jokes, is my point. He's not funny in that regard.

None of that, however, changes the fact that I still disagree with you on this premise that you are a bandwagon fan if you liked Ledger's performance in TDK.

It doesn't matter if the jokes are good or bad. The fact is that Ledger's Joker made only ONE joke. WTF?

I don't think the gritty realism of the Batman movies allow for too much retarded humor like the cartoons. There are many different renditions of The Joker between comics, graphic novels and novels alike. The acting behind the characters The Joker >>>>>>>>>>>> Loki (If you can't see the difference in caliber, you must be out of your mind) Which one is more villainous? The Joker >>>>>>>>> Loki Which one is closer to the comics? They are both off to a degree but this isn't comic books. When compared to Batman here is what I think about The Avengers. I find the heros more entertaining in The Avengers. The Villain on the other hand seem some what uninteresting (same with Thor movie). I find the story of TDK more compelling and thrilling, it is a superior over all experience between Bruce Wayne, Batman and The Joker and all that ties it together. The Avengers does what it set to do very well, incredible mindless popcorn flick that captures the comic book essence VERY well. I think it is also the nature of the comics behind them. Batman lore in general allows for a more thought out and cerebral movie, The Avengers lore is to me more about brute force versus a brute force.

Hiddleston did a pretty good job as Loki, considering the film was focused almost entirely on the heroes.

Ledger just completely stole the show in The Dark Knight though, so I'd give him the nod.

We can all agree to disagree, but the fact is that my opinion is the right one.
Loki: ''I am Loki of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose.'' Nick Fury: ''We have no problem with your people.'' Loki: ''An ant has no quarrel with a boot.''
First of all the Joker as a character is much more interesting. He actually has ideas and ideals that are actually true, but needs to supressed by the forces good. for the good of humanity the batman must keep them in ignorance. which is far more interesting than some spacedouche that wants world domination second of all... acting? seriously..

Ledger's performance was way more memorable. He did a bigger change than hiddleston. Hiddleston made a great character, but was not that big of a change of persna.

I also thought he did a decent job. The big thing is the actual characters. Even if an actor did a good enough job, if the crowd already likes one more than the other, it's an uphill battle, such as the Joker vs Loki. The Joker is one of the most popular villains ever known.

What a mess this thread is.....hey BRHD....seriously you call some a pig and expect to be taken seriously? :| Nonetheless....I don't jump on bandwagons and Ledger's Joker made the character come to life. I don't care whether the man is among the living or not......he did an awesome job with that character. Period. I liked Hiddleston as Loki....but he doesn't compare to the Joker.

Heth's Joker was that once in a decade villian performance where they steal the franchise.

Just like Anthony Hopkins did before him with Lecter in Silence of the Lambs

Heck, on top of that I preferred the sympathetic Loki in Thor, as he had more depth than the simple "I'm evil and I know it" Loki in Avengers.
