Ledger's Joker. However, I do think his death does have an effect on the amount of critical acclaim he's received.

I dunno. Everything Samuel Jackson acts in doesn't seem too much different from everything else he does.
My favorite role of his is Changing Lanes, however. Underated performance and film
Newsflash.
It wasn't Heath Ledgers "Joker" it was Heath Ledger acting like the Joker was written. It was an accurate portrayal of how the Joker truly is within the comics. All the other jokers are stupid. Anyone else who under Chris Nolans direction could've did the same as that drug addled idiot Ledger.
As for Loki, in the comics he's portrayed as a laid back, manipulate things behind the scenes and laugh at them without directly getting involved. He's the type who would set you up, watch you fall and then appear to help you back up looking like he was the good guy, then trip you again. Thats what Loki is like. I didn't like how they made him out to be the angry step child jealous of Thor.

What a stupid thing to say. Ledger was an exceptional actor, it takes more than a Director to make a role and any actor can't do that either.
And don't be so naive to think that most actors don't do drugs of some kind

So that makes it ok since other actors do drugs ? You're the one who is naive. Have you seen all the drugs that were in his system ? Oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine. He doesn't deserve any sympathy. He also was nothing special in his portrayal of the Joker. The credit goes to the writer & director.I haven't seen The Avengers but if Hiddleston's performance is like his one in Thor, then Ledger definitely.

You make it seem like actors are so interchangeable and no need for auditions to determine the best fit for the role.
I'm not saying him taking drugs was good or I promote it or anything. I don't sympathise with how he killed himself, I feel sorrowful for the fact that he died in general. He was a great talent and a loss to the acting world.
What exactly did Loki hope to accomplish that he couldn't of had he merely stayed advisor to Thor in asgard. He could happily meddle in everything since his brother and dad were the big boss. Anyone who said anything he could go crying to his big bro or daddy. Even after the events of the movie Thor it appears like Thor himself was ready to forgive and forget.
Loki f'd up.

The credit goes to the writer & director. Do you ride this moralistic high horse everywhere or just on internet forums? They are two completely different characters. They both did an excellent job at being the main villian of their movies. I don't think it is fair to compare them and say who is better and who is inferior. This is all subjective, no answer will be fact from this question. Soon we're gonna be getting "bane vs joker" threads.
I thought Ledger's performance was superior to Hiddleston's but they were both very good in conveying the evil that was inside their characters and did it convincingly. I just felt like Ledger was more into the character and was truly a repulsive villan, whereas while Hiddleston acted well, I feel like Loki wasn't as evil as he could have been (could be writing too) and seemed more like he was the misunderstood brother who craves attention and so is willing to do something he knows is wrong to gain power over Thor.
It's called having a discussion or debate. Obviously I'm going to choose a side and defend it. I don't mean any harm.[QUOTE="BluRayHiDef"][QUOTE="seanmcloughlin"]
You ask people an open question and their opinion but get pissy everytime they disagree with you and say "Oh no no no THIS is why Loki is much better"
worlock77
Only it's not having a discussion, it's you throwing a pissy fit when someone doesn't share your opinion.
Typical for him.I actually liked Loki but...he lacked conviction. mrmusicman247I c what you did there And I think its without question the Joker was done better.
What do you guys think of Samuel L. Jackson's performance as Nick Fury?BluRayHiDefWell, lets just say Gary Oldman's Jim Gordon was better.
I like Heath Ledgers interpretation of the joker. It seems a little overdone at times but that's mostly because people have been making heaps of mockeries out of it which makes it hard to go back to it and take it fully seriously.
Loki was merely a fun character. Not really as engaging as the joker
However, Mark Hamill's joker is my favourite
The credit goes to the writer & director.SkarwolfThis sentence is perhaps one of the most densely packed with idiocy I have had the displeasure of reading on this entire board (a true achievement I assure you). Oh yeah. Joker was better acted. Though I think a large part of my dismissing Loki as a joke was because of his outfit (seriously Thor had awful costuming, why reuse it?) and because he was literally made a joke of.
[QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"]I haven't seen The Avengers and I know that the answer is easily Heath Ledger's Joker.BluRayHiDef
Keep riding that bandwagon.
Ledger's performance as the Joker can't be trumped by a Marvel villain.
I really enjoyed Heath's Joker but Mark Hamill is the best Joker, even if it was just his voice performance.Kurushioi agree with this. love mark hamil's voice as the joker too.
heath no contest the joker is a insane psychopath that isnt afriad to die or kill anyone and heath even lost sleep and other things perfecting this character nothing matches his joker and nothing ever will

Really?
Heath's Joker: Oh, let's put bombs on boats!
Nicholson: Let's poison people in ways they wouldn't expect!
And the joker isn't "insane", this is where people didn't read the comics. He knows exactly what he is doing, he just find joy in making other people suffer, and that doesn't make him insane, it just makes him evil.

They can be mad-driven and cold and calculated. The joker is fully aware of the horrible things he is doing, he just enjoys them out of his own twisted morality system. This makes him a helluva lot more scary than just being "insane".
You want an insane character, look at Cletus/Carnage. Jeez, in Carnage USA he just took over a town because he felt like it and forced everyone to smile and be happy and bossed around some old people. He ate some little kids who were taking a bath, and he took over th avengers because he ate so much. But that is also his downfall, because he never knows when to stop and that is usually when venom and spiderman team up to take him down.
The joker doesn't have this issue. He knows how to do things because he likes to do them, he has control, unlike Cletus. Joker is cold and calculated and likes to see batman, above all else, struggle.
And when he screws up, he doesn't give up.
Cletus just wants his symbiote to grow bigger because he is in love with it or something.
