[QUOTE="TheAbbeFaria"]

[QUOTE="scorch-62"] Did anyone ever do a paternity test to see if that were true?scorch-62

I wonder how they would do that.

See, no one even knows if it was his son or not. I could have been that son-of-a-***** Joseph for all we know.

That's true, but we could also say the same things about many other sons born unto famous persons. Ptolemy VII could have been the son of one of Caesar's compatriots instead of Caesar himself. However, as history records, he was the son of Caesar, so it is all mere speculation on our part, just as it is speculation to speculate whether Jesus was the son of God.

However, Jesus could have only been the son of God if we believe in God, otherwise, Jesus does not exist. There may have been a person named Jesus during antiquity, but he wasn't the same Jesus as described and recorded in the Bible.

[QUOTE="EMOEVOLUTION"] What? That's not true. Every religion? I really don't think so.EMOEVOLUTION

Judaism- Goes to Gehenna (Hell)

Christianity- Goes to Hell

Islam- Goes to Hell

Hinduism- Remains in the cycle of reincarnation

Buddhism- Remains in the cycle of reincarnation

Jainism- Remains in the cycle of reincarnation

Sikhism- Remains in the cycle of reincarnation

Baha'i- Moves away from God (no concept of Heaven and Hell as places of punishment or reward)

The punishments for the eight largest religions, representing the religious beliefs of 5.2 billion people, on the planet if one does not fulfill one's commitments to one's deity(s).

most of the religions you're describing are connected to the same cultural backgrounds are in fact not all together different from one another.

So? Does that stop them from having similar punishments? Although, granted, this does not represent every single religion on the planet, it represents a significant portion of the religious on the planet. 5.2 billion people out of 5.9 billion people who call themselves religious (another 1.1 billion classified as agnostic or atheist), that's almost 90% of everyone on the planet who considers themselves religious.

You consider reincarnation is some form of terrible punishment? That's new.

When the ultimate reward is oneness with God, yes. Besides, no one ever said whatyou would be reincarnated as. Indeed, in Hinduism, you could be reincarnated as another human, or as an animal, or even as a rock.

I see heaven as more of torture then ultimate reward.. You are stuck there for eternity, your being has changed.. I don't want my self to change on who I am and what not.. Furthermore eternity is its own prison.

though these religions have gone on to represent majority of the worlds population.. there were significantly many other forms of religions when society was not as connected as it is today.

I like the idea of the thread but you went about it the wrong way, the question you asked could have been a lot better.

eg. isn't it arrogant that you pray to god despite the fact there are people dying of starvation and diseases and god doesn't help them. Always makes me laugh when people pray for something which is practically meaningless in comparison to people who are REALLY in need, then they have the arrogance to say (if it did work out) that it was God helping them.

An example which is perfect is some woman I know; her dog ran out the house and came back 2 days later unharmed, she claimed god guided him back to the house and protected him and that she was paying for him to return... I mean you really think God cares enough about you and your dog and actually guides your dog back home but completely ignores the people who are born into poverty, who die from disease because there's no clean water, who die from starvation etc. etc.

It's pretty arrogant to think you're more important than the people who REALLY need help.

Perhaps God helps as many of those who starve as he does those who do not? There are many stories of people who've suffered immensely in their childhood, from starvation, homelessness, war, poverty, ect, and who are chosen to attend colleges in the United States and abroad. Is this God's will? It depends upon your beliefs, but some who suffer, reap the fruits of their suffering later.

i dont think many religious people understand that by beliving in god and living in fear of him you are basically just living to die.

What i mean is the reason you act as a good (insert religion) is so that you can go to heaven later and not hell and therefore you live to die well? HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENCE??

A eternity of anything is torture.. The reason why we treasure certain activities is because we have such a limited time.. With unlimited time of anything, in the end we would lose itnerest or become ennamored to teh point that its torture..

The problem being that you haven't witnessed Heaven. No one alive has witnessed Heaven, so we don't know what it is. Being free of my corporeal limitations, though, sounds like it would be a good reward.

And, in either case, I'm only going by what the theology says, not one's personal views on the subject.

You can easily summed it up by just asking this question: How can a loving and powerful god allow bad and/or evil happen?

Yeah but they easily dodge the question with some twisted logic or a phrase like "god works in mysterious ways" or "evil is there, it's up to us to be good people"

:| Or by simply saying God created both and is amoral.

Of course very few theists want to think of that, thus resort to that twisted logic you describe.

Haha, lol. God is a forgiver, and using his name in vain is a sin, which is why our savior, Jesus, died on the cross for our sins, therefore, we are forgiven.

Calling something twisted doesn't make it so. I've read quite a compelling argument in favor of the theory quod, malum est, ergo nos bonum postularum

Agree that it could be worded in different way or that poll choices might be seen as biased (if somebody was offended sorry ,not my intention)

but as a kid i remember everybody telling me ''don't do this/that god will punish you,god punishes bad people ''

and then i grew up and saw all the evil and unfair stuff, God created us all in his image and yet all we do is fight, lie and use and abuse one another ,what is to stop us from continuing same way until we destroy ourselves if there is nothing to fear . No eternal punishment ,no slow barbecue no poking and tearing of this body part or that .

What I dont understand is why people feel they must act for God. "We do this in the name of God" etc. etc. etc. Trust me, If God exists, he can take care of his own stuff and probably doesnt want you messing with it.

That's what Jesus said.. but if you read the old testament you will find it never says that.EMOEVOLUTION
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

Reminds me of that saying - "An eye for an eye leaves the world blind" Although, this has no relation to any point anyone was making, I nonetheless feel like inserting it here.

it's a silly saying anyway. basically it would mean that half the world is criminal, or needing punishment

If God exists why doesn't he punish those who take his name in vain ?

Please explain that to me

is this like, what god because there is no god or which god is being referred to?

Like, abrahamic God? YHWH? A pagan God? Gaia?

when you talk about GOD, you cannot separate that concept from afterlife and day of judgement.

If They Are On The Right Path With God And Slip Up And Ask For Forgiveness, They Are Forgiven. If They Have Not Accepted Him, Then, Unless They Repent Before It Is Too Late, Hell Is Waiting For Them.

Think of life like the game 'Black & White'. Just because you can kill everyone doesn't mean that you would or should. That would be counterproductive.

God for all we know is not inactive, the being is just not active in the way expect or know it to be.. Chances are if something that equates to the idea of god exists, the being is far different from anything any religion suggests the beign is like.

Houdini promised his wife, Bess, he would contact her from beyond the grave. With his last breaths, Houdini whispered a secret message to Bess.

Tell me what to do, and i´ll try my best to do it, ofcourse the same applies to you if you take the ticket before i do

It has to be highly convincing tho, leaving not a shred of doubt when witnessed/experienced
