[QUOTE="Danm_999"] The problem was, there was already someone living there. The problem was never the Jewish people having their own homeland, it was that they dispossesed a much larger people to get it.Danm_999
The bigger problem is that the Israeli/Jewish people are directly decended from the Caananites and that area was once know as Canaan.
All of them?
Do we really think all the world's Jewish population are the direct descendents of the Caananites? Alternatively, do you seriously believe none of the Caananites were able to remain after the Jews were expelled? Given the incredibly sketchy records we have from thousands of years ago, it's pointless to make sweeping generalisations such as this.
Even so, does this give them an eternal claim to the land from a secular perspective? Would you support Native Americans reattaining ownership of the United States?
So how can you argue that the Jewish people were not there first or at least at the same time? And, for those of you who have never lived in Israel, let alone been born there, you must realize that there is also a large Christian and Muslim population, all of whom live in peace and harmony together. It is not an "Islamic" tradition to be against Israel, it is a regional tradition. Palestine, Jordan, and the like are against Israel, not the entire Muslim population.grenadexjumpr
There are Muslim and Christian populations living in Israel, yes. But Israel is fundamentally Jewish. Their parliament, the Knesset, recently passed a bill making it a criminal offence to deny Israel's Jewish character.
You're correct about the regionalism of the problem, although Islam at large isn't pleased Israel has control over Jerusalem, their third holiest city.
I'm not by any means saying that my people are the only ones who have claim to the land. But the argument that I was shutting down was saying that the Jewish people had NO right, but we do. All pure Jews would be directly decended from the Caananites if the sense of the word "pure." Not the people who convert to Judaism but those who have a bloodline of it.
And so what if Israel is fundamentally Jewish? How come its a problem if they are, but nobody says boo about Iran, Jordan, Libya and others' practices that directly relate government to the dominant religion? And yes I know very well about the parliament, the people, and the attacks which go on in Isreal, it is my home country. And I have relatives serving in the IDF.
