Yeah, I hate that kind of speech. Then again, I'm a perfectionist when it comes to language so I don't like "1337" speak or "txt" language either.

To me, it has to be perfect, proper English.

You could say that about any genre of music. The Doors, who names a band after a ****ing door? Led Zeppelin, I'm not even 100% percent sure I know what that means. AC/DC, the list goes on.

I think Led Zeppelin came about after a 'super-band' involving several famous musicians at the time "went down like a lead zeppelin".

Oh man I loled so hard.

Yes, the slang is ridiculous. And I don't get it why it's ok when they adress one to another with the N word, but if a white guy says the N word he'll get shot.

i dont like hip hop slang, imo its just to make people look cool and sound cool nothing more

like when people say "hey whats up son" what does "son" mean? or when people call you "young" i mean i kno im young but what does that mean in real life, that im really young or somthing else?

ppl say it in my school and i just ignore them, if ur dumb enough to replace my name with "young" then you were born an idiot and had no home training skills. i swear no respect at all

for once i want to see a real rapper that talks about issues instead of "smoking dro in back of day Farrari"!, just stupid

The reason for slang or slang in the rap culture is because some rap imitates the life of crime and drug dealing. Just like the Mafia, Gangs and drug dealers made up words so that police wouldn't readily know what they were talking about.

Examples of this could be seen when Gangsta Rap really took off in the media. Songs like Snoop's Gin and Juice, for a long time, only censored the swear words while leaving talk about sex, murder and drugs untouched because MTV didn't know the meaning of the slang.

Exactly, and ffs it seems like every other week some guy is complaining about rap or something related to it. Big deal, you don't like the slang, millions of people use internet slang, on the net and in RL. People shorten words, or replace them with other words big deal, get over it. If you don't like it, tough it's not going anywhere and you creating a topic just to get people to agree with you isn't going to get any petitions brought up about banning slang.

Slang is nearly everyones life, whether you use the internet or listen to Hip Hop or not. I'm very intelligent, and I use it. I don't feel any less intelligent using it, nor does anyone that I know view in a less respectful way. And the slang you're talking about is often an element of Hip Hop culture, big deal. It's not affecting you is it, because if it is you need to re-evaluate yourself.

Also Hom3_Pwn3r, American History X, great movie. Watched again yesterday actually. :)

MTV's stepped up their slang game lately. They censored "patty cake patty cake, microwave" in Young Jeezy's And Then What ;)

I doubt the rappers themselves care about what we think, and theyre still making the $$. Heck, Id ask stupid and say that stuff it would make me a millionaire. Well, its not really stupid its just slang words that we (non-blacks) arent accustomed to be saying.

Old School Rap had meaning! Actual thought was put into the lyrics

Todays rap has no meaning at all.

I dont see how people can listen to that crap today?!Film-Guy

Because if you dig a little, there's plenty of great stuff.

Its like any genre, the underground and independant stuff usually offers the most untapped talent.

Some mainstream stuff is pretty friggin great as well. Outkast's album "Aquemini" is one of my favourite albums of all time. Most 2Pac's albums released before his death (and R U Still Down?) are really great. Dr Dre's Chronic and 2001 are also excellent. Finally, Snoop's first couple of records were really good. So it is clear to me that not all mainstream hip-hop is worthless, like a lot of ignorant people like to say.

Hip-hop often gets treated really unfairly on these threads, mostly by people who've never even given it a chance. But there's a lot of good stuff out there, and you don't even need to dig that hard to find it. And this is coming from someone who mainly listens to rock.....

Old School Rap had meaning! Actual thought was put into the lyrics

Todays rap has no meaning at all.

I dont see how people can listen to that crap today?!streak000

Because if you dig a little, there's plenty of great stuff.

Its like any genre, the underground and independant stuff usually offers the most untapped talent.

Some mainstream stuff is pretty friggin great as well. Outkast's album "Aquemini" is one of my favourite albums of all time. Most 2Pac's albums released before his death (and R U Still Down?) are really great. Dr Dre's Chronic and 2001 are also excellent. Finally, Snoop's first couple of records were really good. I completely agree with you. BUT, there is still too much crap nowadays (*ahem* souljaboy *ahem*). And has anyone heard Sean Kingston's new song "take you there"? WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU WANT TO TAKE YOUR GIRLFRIEND TO THE SLUMS???

Same can be said about other genres in music I love Rock and sometimes metal along with rap, gangsta rap, or hip hop w/e the hell you wanna call it.

But hip hop just sticks moar with me all you seeing is the crap.

Plus I just droped $500 on my grill son lol

grills are disgusting, also calling someone son and young is just slang.

Difference of opinion I presume I find grills quite fashionable.
