How can I protect my home legally?

I'm very paranoid about burglars breaking into my house. All of my windows and doors have like 3 locks on them and are prepared to sound off if they are open. But if someone does manage to get pass those defense what is a way I can protect myself legally? I'm thinking about buying a gun, if I do, any suggestions?

EDIT: Ps, I can't have any pepper spray or taser because I have to get close and I can be knifed/unarmed

Alarm systems are overrated. You need to rig up a shotgun type trap at each entry to your home. Have the shotgun hang from the ceiling pointed at the door and have a piece of thick string attached to the door handle and the trigger.

At night "arm" your new security system. If someone enters through any of those entries you'll be alerted by gun fire, screaming, and possibly gurgling.

Voila! You are now safe from robbers, rapists, and murderers.

I believe Florida is the only state where self defense is a defense to murder. Meaning you can shoot someone anywhere in the state if you feel they are threatening you :P

In Georgia they have to be on your property.

If you turned it up high enough, it could be like a non-lethal weapon, and just replace the paintballs with rubber balls.

BTW, Get a Safe with a code on it, and put the guns (and important documents like passports and stuff like that) so that the burgler doesn't get them before you do.

Security systems are great though because they keep people out (if it works, and covers all entry points.) -A simple sticker on a window and a sign out front saying "protected by (security company)" will make someone think twice.

911 (i'm guessing you don't live in america). but the police will be too slow to really stop an invader in the act so by the time they arrive your house will be robbed or you'll be dead.

Here are some suggestions on guns to buy... I would go with a 45 ACP round, so whatever you buy try and get one that fires the .45. Any Glock that fires the .45 would get the job done in your case. the .45 ACP has the stopping power that you would need in the off chance that you would have to stop someone who was breaking into your house. You dont really need anything fancy. Glock 30 would do the job well. However if you want to get fancy, Para PXT 1911's are really cool handguns. The reason I say "fancy" is because 1911's are notoriously expensive. They will usually cost you well over 1000$ for a good one. But the Para PXT's are good modern models of the 1911. Despite how awesome 1911's are you're right, if you want a cheap alternative to security systems...then that's not it lol.

-but yes, get a pistol or hell, unless the guy is wearing body armor, you can get an M1 carbine at an army surplus store (the round is shaped differently so it does the same thing a .45 does when it impacts, yet it's only .9mm, but instead of flying all the way through, it disperses all it's energy and gets lodged into the body.)

Also, if .45 ACP isn't good enough, you can get a revolver (.44 magnum?) - and remember!

Shoot them in the knee, and then call the cops, don't kill them unless you have to.

There hasnt been a murder in my town in 30 years.

But in the inner city, hell yeah, Ide carry a freaking asaault rifle around.

I would either go with a mossberg 12 gauge pump shotgun. a glock 9 mm, or a Smith and Wesson .38 special. I have all of these.hillelslovak

Glocks are good but expensive. Make sure you get a decent barrel length on that .38 i cant hit anything with my 2"...
