[QUOTE="HoolaHoopMan"][QUOTE="surrealnumber5"] you should not use words you dont know the proper use for. think of unanimous as a true false statement, it must be 100% true or else its falsesurrealnumber5
Great, keep knit picking while completely avoiding the topic and point at hand.

my point was your misuse of a word just accept it is not unanimous and we will be done here

Way to be pedantic.

[QUOTE="Ace6301"][QUOTE="Espada12"]

My point is that, even universally accepted theories can be wrong. I just used that one as an example. Here I'll use another one. The classical elemental theory, 100% proven wrong.

Espada12

...Really? That's your fall back? Modern science can be wrong because classical...I don't even want to call it science really, philosophy was wrong? That is one of the worst arguments I have seen.

Semantics much? The fact is, these were all once accepted science and in the end were found to not 100% correct or flat out wrong. How about that Phlogiston theory? Good enough example?

Much better example, however the increase in global average temperatures as noted above is not denied by ANY credible source (how could it be? It is flat data) and the only question is whether human activity accounts for it to a significant degree.

You think the science is wrong? You think that all the peer-reviewed literature is bogus? Prove it.

Pseudo science that actual science disproved doesn't change anything. It's like saying I once knew a guy, he was wrong. You must be wrong too. If you're going to try and discredit science please find a case where modern science has failed that much. This also isn't even semantics. It's you having a terrible argument because all your other arguments failed.

[QUOTE="T_P_O"]Dearest OT, Please stop feeding Espada12. regards, Sanity.Espada12

Yeah once someone doesn't agree with the majority opinion they are clearly trolling amirite?

Your OP is dire: it demonstrates that you do not know what "global warming" is (and actually, I believe people prefer "climate change"). It displays a rudimentary logic, which whilst being perfectly sound (which OT, doesn't take much work), is left absurd because you have no idea what climate change is and presumably how we measure it. Effectively, you do not make a strawman, you make a man out of arse and rip it to shreds. That is how bad it was.

Believe me, by presuming you to be a rabble-rouser, I'm giving you a better evaluation than someone who would've been seriously making that argument.

It's reason to take it very seriously, however. Peer-reviewed data is as close to "truth" as you generally get in science. If we held off on developing theories and building applications because a theory might someday be refined, people would probably still be discussing whether or not fire or the wheel were good ideas, or if we should hold off using them until we had flying cars.

See those weren't universally accepted theories though. I mean Phlogiston theory is pretty damn easy to disprove, it's right there with Spontaneous generation. Considering how well know Climate change theory is and how people like you say it's wrong all the time you would think maybe people would have tried to prove it wrong by now and that we would have heard about it if it was proven wrong since if it was proven wrong the person who did that research would be lauded by the entire scientific community. Right now the whole climate change theory makes the most sense and it's backed by scientific evidence.

OK, so it is subject to future refinement if evidence points in a different direction. A large volume of data clearly indicates that climate change is underway and there is also a significant (though not overwhelming) amount of data linking this change to human activity. Where does that leave us, aside from believing in climate change?

It's backed up by good science. It isn't a matter of whether or not you "believe" it happens or not. Global warming is happening whether you believe in it or not. It's not a mindset, it's a fact.

[QUOTE="surrealnumber5"][QUOTE="xaos"] Actually, whether math is discovered or constructed is a pretty contentious point in the philosophy of math.xaos
never took, or seen, a philosophy of math class

Me either, but it's a hobby of my bf's (one of many reasons I love him), and I've picked up a bit of it from conversations with him.

Could it be that there is a vast amount of scientific evidence that it is going on?

Typing climate change or global warming into any database of scientific journals will yield thousands, if not tens of thousands, of peer reviewed papers in support of the theory of climate change.

If you deny that the climate is changing you're a wanker. Global warming caused my man is the unanswered question.

What evidence do you have that makes it so one can think it is man-made?
