[QUOTE="chessmaster1989"]Matter of opinion really, I sometimes enjoy watching soccer. I prefer tennis and golf though.theone86

My dad loves watching golf, I can't understand it for the life of me. It's not that I dislike the sport either, I actually enjoy playing it very much.

They are both fun to play, but I prefer watching rugby.

OB-47

I dislike rugby almost as much as soccer. Watching rugby makes me appreciate the pauses in play during gridiron.

I just love Rugby for it's pureness. NFL has more strategy and whatnot, but Rugby is more on the spur of the moment strategy, and it's so compelling to watch for me. I love the last minute passes and going straight through a pile of opposing team. But hey, it's just me

Yeah I don't know anyone who likes watching golf who doesn't play it. But at least we agree playing it is fun. :P (I'm terrible at golf though  )

I threw my club in a tree once (I was young).

Watching sports is boring. Playing them is fun.

Though I'm white, and I'm not good at Basketball ;)

I love to play soccer but not to watch. Most the time its just kicking the ball back in fourth trying to get even somewhat close to the goal.

But anways... Hockey > all

dodgerblue13
Not trying to instigate, just ask. But I watch a lot of hockey, too. Why do you find the dump-and-chases, penalty kill clears, and errant shots of hockey enjoyable, but not the similarities of soccer? I realize there's much more to hockey, but there are a lot of efforts to get the puck deep and then gain control and run the offense. Soccer isn't too different from that. What is it to you that makes the strategic approaches of trying to score in hockey more enjoyable than those in soccer?

Hockey is faster, the rink is smaller than the field, you can hit, and there are lots of shots on goal.

To me it just seems like non-stop running, but like I said before I get that different people enjoy different aspects of different sports.

I find hockey much more intense and entertaining. Generally more time is spent in the offensive zone in hockey than in soccer. There is more skill involved, more shots, I love seeing a sick deke and a well executed play and shot in hockey. I notice most the time in soccer is spent trying to get through and close to the net. I just don't find it as interesting as hockey. PK's and dumps are just one aspect of the game too. They can be boring sometimes though.

I don't care for why people believe American football is better than soccer l but I will tell all those wondering why I love soccer/football so much. It is a highly technical game that requires more finesse than a huge majority of team sports, the tricks, the use of feet, the dynamic display of play, they all contribute to a beautiful style.

Those who complain about the low scoring, all I have to say is this, it is because of the low scoring that makes games interesting. Even if you are 3-0, it only takes 5 minutes and a flurry of shots to bring the game back to potential parity. Each goal, feels even better than a point in basketball, a touchdown in American football because they are so rare and are spectacular to look at. There is a certain beauty to soccer that is absent even in sports like american football and basketball when scoring also. Big 360 slam dunks (which doesn't give you much advantage anyway) or incredible distant throws look great, no doubt but a volley from 30 metres, when it hits the back of that net is just something else, and that is unique to soccer.

Because stopping play lets you know when there's nothing going on the field, with soccer there's nothing going on for the majority of the game.

Oh yeah, and as to why football rocks, because it's a highly strategic game with one-on-one matches going on throughout the game. If there's a speedster receiver good coaches find a way to gameplan him; if a team isn't great at passing they find a way to win with special teams, running, and defense; If the opposing team has a good pass rusher you double him and see if they can adjust.

theone86

Scoring goals isn't the only thing to love about soccer though....
I've seen amazing games that ended in a 0-0 draw. I'm a huge fan of catenaccio/Zone Mista football, even though it's a very defensive way of playing it takes real skill to pull off.

As for your strategic argument, the exact same thing can be applied to soccer.

There's always something happening in soccer. NFL is decent, but the 40 seconds, the timeouts, the commercial breaks during said timeouts... Soccer is the best.

I cannot stand to watch EPL. "Pass... pass... pass... intercept... pass... pass... shoot... pass."

If I had to choose any soccer it'd be Australian A-League. It's actually interesting to watch.

They're sh*t so there's tackling and tripping. More interesting than a game of pasing up one end to the other.

Its an American thing. They derive true entertainment from Instant gratification sports (which is why NASCAR baffles me). Its why Call of Duty sells well. and Arrested Develoment got canceled...

In short, its a cultural thing

Something about watching guys standing around kicking a ball back and forth, and maybe scoring one goal in two hours...kind of makes me change the channel.

A 0-0 tie is called a great game is why world football sucks. Oh and after we run around, we'll decide the world champion on penalty kicks.zzzzzzzz.

roulettethedog
It's called a great game if the play is fairly fast, open and plenty of incidents. Are you saying American Football never has low scoring/boring games? I watched it last night, and let me tell you! They kept going away from the commercials every 10 minutes to show me some guys falling over >:[

football is 1000x more boring. stop start stop start stop start stop start. what a boring sport. soccer takes way more skill too.

hadoken

This. Seriously, "football" is pretty much non-existant here where I live but a few months back I saw a channel that were showing some football game. I watched two of these games, but only like 30 minutes in total. And I was blown away, like, no joke this has to be the most boring sport there possibly is. Here's how it went:

20+ seconds preparation.
5-10 seconds of playing.
20+ seconds preparation. (which consists of them just chilling is not something entertaining to watch at all).

I was like...With my jaw on the floor, I swear I still feel shocked, what is this? How the **** can this be so big in US? It's... it's so boring. It felt like there was 70% preparation, 30% playing. Completely messed up.

I mean, I understand people got different tastes but they're not even playing! They stand around just preparing so much I can't see how that is any fun at all.

I understand that Americans have their own way of saying things, but blimey soccer sounds horrible...

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I've been a life-long football fan, yet some people don't get the appeal of it.

Now with American football, I just don't like it.

Still butthurt that you couldn't beat us in the last World Cup? Or the fact that we won the division while you guys placed second? It's not that embarrassing. I like both sports, but if I was going to watch a random football game vs a random soccer game, I'd rather watch football. Definitely more strategy is involved. And whoever said hockey > all is spot on.

People who call sports boring usually don't understand them. Sounds like you don't understand what kind of planning and strategy goes behind every play.

More strategy being a reason for watching it? That's rather silly...

You don't even know what they're talking about down there, I don't see why that's a reason for any assumptions.

Lots of strategy in football. And I mean it. And I mean the proper football, not handball.

I will settle this conversation with the facts.

For the record i like both American Football and Football(Soccer)

Highest Paid Athletes in the world play Football(Soccer)

There is a world outside of America and the most watched television audience for a sporting event is the world cup, it has more viewers then the superbowl.

Football(Soccer) is a language all in its own, a language of the world as you can go anywhere, not speak the language but people will understand what you want to do if you have a Football(Soccer Ball), if you were to say take an American Football to mmmm North Korea (as its in the news) they would look at you with a wtf...

it is the most boring sport on the planet with all those 1-0 or 2-1 games.
