[QUOTE="Tylendal"][QUOTE="SolidSnake35"][QUOTE="Tylendal"] Again, it's just a shorthand for "Fans of My Little Pony, Friendship is magic". There's plenty of fandoms that have names like it. Trekies, Otaku, Monsters...

Trekies maybe.. I've heard of that one. But I don't think you should want to be grouped like that. It's as bad as being an emo kid and will give people the impression that it's all about image. If you like the show, you can do so without being a brony. It's just my opinion of course but I wouldn't want that name to apply to me. Mainly because of how it plays on words. It sounds like some cross species horse dude.

It's a word. It's an arrangement of sounds to convey an idea. Why shouldn't you group people. Being a fan of a show is just one way you might group people.

You can group people like that.. but to them label them bronies is just odd. You're not a brony. You're a human being!

It's stupid is what it is,

I've tried to get into it cause my friends like it, but I find it impossible.

DeathReaperQ

Is not stupid, not everyone is forced to like it, is like me saying that you liking Soul Eater is stupid just because i don't like the series (BTW, Soul Eater is awesome and i think is the best Shonen Manga right now...of course if that's Soul on your avy, if not, ignore everything i said :P )

Perhaps... but I still dislike the name. I guess that's down to preference, though. Personally, I think if you were just "a fan of MLP", you'd get less flak for it. Brony just creates this kind of groupie nature vibe. But in any case, I don't have a problem with people watching it per se. I know some kids shows can have amusing humour so we really don't have much quarrel here.

What's depressing about knowing that you really don't have to care? I find the concept that life is nothing more than an accident, and all of existence being utterly meaningless, incredibly freeing. Basically. There's no point to life, lets make the best of it. You say "What's the point?" I say "There is no point. You can do whatever you want, the point is whatever you want it to be, isn't that awesome?"

Because I can, because I want to. It makes me happy. I know my happiness is just a chemical reaction that drives a body ultimately driven by complex interaction of instincts. Even knowing that though, doesn't make it any less enjoyable.

Meaningless: Having no purpose or reason. Why should that stop me from enjoying things? Most enjoyable things are seen as unreasonable and purposeless. Skydiving, videogames, a tasty (as opposed to nutritionally optimized) meal? I'm sure you'll agree that those things are enjoyable, but have no purpose, and or reason. We create them and do them because we are able to imbue them with the sole meaning of providing our bodies with endorphins.

Nah, it just seems that way. Enjoyment is a side effect. Enjoyment is something that developed to help drive life. Doesn't mean I can't choose to benefit from it.

That just means you're too narrow in your scope to see the potential of a life without purpose, if you see it that way.

Even if life is inherently pointless, you give it a purpose yourself. Unfortunately by watching ponies :P

True, I give it a purpose myself. That doesn't mean it's not purposeless and meaningless though. There is no inherent purpose, that is the central point. I'm not giving life purpose, I'm giving MY life a goal. A goal is something you work towards, a purpose is something you exist for, and there is no reason for my existence.

I think it's equal parts intrigue, awesomeness and nostalgia; the latter mostly because the majority of the voices on MLP:FIM come from shows bronies used to watch (Several series of Gundam, DBZ, etc.)

Okay. First of all, in the same breath, you admitted it might be decent, then you turned right around and said that that is not the reason people are watching it.Tylendal

That's right. I'm saying it might be okay. For argument's sake, let's say it is. What I'm saying is that you people do not watch this show purely based on the dialogue and storyline you talk so much about. You watch it because you aren't supposed to. The somewhat watchable content was just the factor that set it all in stone. If this show were to be aimed at young boys and had a completely different art direction (though not lacking in quality), it would have a tiny following of man children that just watch cartoons because.. I don't know. It escapes them from their 3D reality.

TL;DR MLP does not have this following because it is a well put together show, it has this following because you aren't supposed to be watching it.

Do you run around the house on this when the show comes on

Is this a serious reason why adults should watch it? If it's better than half of their other children's programming, that means there are another 50% of children's programs that are better.

Tiny following? That's where you're completely mistaken. Case in point, 25% of Spongebob Squarepants fans are adults. Do you honestly mean to tell me you can't see the mass market appeal of children's programming like Spongebob, Animaniacs, Fairly Odd-Parents, Looney Tunes, and Invader Zim?

Spongebob is funny from time to time. It's not something I would sit down and watch though. It's not something I think any mature person would enjoy enough to sit down and watch. You missed my point though. Just answer this simple question:

Do you believe MLP would have the same following if the show was completely the same in quality, just aimed at boys rather than girls?

If this show were to be aimed at young boys and had a completely different art direction (though not lacking in quality), it would have a tiny following of man children that just watch cartoons because.. I don't know. It escapes them from their 3D reality.

TL;DR MLP does not have this following because it is a well put together show, it has this following because you aren't supposed to be watching it.

Sigh....I don't know why I'm bothering....but anyway...

We've already given reasons as to why we watch this show.....but I am still yet to hear a proper reason as to why we supposedly souldn't be watching it in the first place.....other than the typical (and somewhat incorrect) response that it's a "little girls show" Is it because there's too much pink or purple in the show? Or is it called as such simply because it's part of the MLP brand? Whatever the reason, I can't see how it really matters anyway. But if you want to keep convincing yourself that people don't genuinely like this show for what it is then I won't stop you ;)

Like I said, if I'm playing with dolls in a sandpit I'm not doing anything wrong, but I shouldn't be offended by people thinking I'm a loon. I just want to know the yes or no answer this question:

Do you believe MLP would have the same following if the show was completely the same in quality, just aimed at boys rather than girls?

That's right. I'm saying it might be okay. For argument's sake, let's say it is. What I'm saying is that you people do not watch this show purely based on the dialogue and storyline you talk so much about. You watch it because you aren't supposed to. The somewhat watchable content was just the factor that set it all in stone. cheese_game619

I just told you. Roughly twenty five percent of people who enjoying watching Spongebob are adults. That sounds like a pretty huge and mainstream demographic to me. So yes. I think it would have even more of a following if it weren't for the "My Little Pony" stigma, though as I have said earlier, I don't think fans would have been quite as in your face about it.

So I'm expected to make assumptions on something that dosen't even exist? (you know what I mean...) But if it was aimed at boys, it probably wouldn't have that same "cute" factor. You heard me, I said cute :P But I think that people just also tend to respond better to animal, human-like characters in cartoons (Think Warner Bros or Disney). It's all part of the fun and the fantasy of the world. And on top of that.....being an actually decent show.....well....there's your fanbase.

And I'm still waiting for an answer...

An answer to what?

Why you shouldn't watch the show? If you honestly can't answer that, please, watch the show. Go nuts.

Why wouldn't I watch the show? Because I'm not a f***in' manchild neckbeard weirdo.

Why am I wondering why you like the show? Because I'm nice enough to make sure I'm not missing something before deeming you all a bunch of wackjob furries. You're welcome.

I think it has something to do with the show's ability to reach a certain level of cute without crossing that line over into schmaltzy or sugary. Who among us hasn't watched a sleeping cat video on Youtube or something equally as insipid? And as insipid as it is, it probably has 25 million views. I assume the same basic principle applies here. It's this adorableness, partnered with the show's unique sense of sentimentality, that has caused people to create an emotional attachment to the characters.

-They embrance the brony comunity and reference them in the show

-The show is cute as f*ck

-Great animation

-Great voice actors.

-Irony

-Great community and very talented

-Internet memes

-Fun for trolling purposes

-Show is actually quite funny at times

-Gives great advice, although cliched lessons.

-Great show to watch with your kids. You won't get bored for being a kid's cartoon.

-It's nothing like the old series, this is 20% cooler than all of them combined.

[QUOTE="Tylendal"][QUOTE="Ilovegames1992"]

What's the point in liking ponies and playing an instrument then?

Ilovegames1992

Because I can, because I want to. It makes me happy. I know my happiness is just a chemical reaction that drives a body ultimately driven by complex interaction of instincts. Even knowing that though, doesn't make it any less enjoyable.

When life is meaningless to you, i find it hard to understand how you can enjoy anything just by default.

This guy is just trying to dig under your toe  There is no meaning, you create a meaning and a value to it. Each individuals value their life in many ways.

Not at all. He's clearly been following the thread, just a while ago he was questioning the concept of a cheerful nihilist.

1. Old series attracted more girls than boys. Subjective which one succeeded it's goals.

2. Who?

3. Crappy nick cartoons?

4. References to what?

5. They want your money, too.

6. They used japanese anime BIG EYEBALLS. Its ugly as hell like anime that uses the same.

7. I think southpark used more frames.

8. Lies like the ones from the parents at the school play.

9. Gluttony.

10. Most chances are that the artist of the most innocent artwork also has those ponies in hardcore bondage for commission.

11. You are the Justin Beiber fangirls of the interweb.

12. Can't be a troll if you type the truth!

13. So is the special olympics.

14. So did Jerry Springer.

15. Unless the kids are crying cause the Father is making them watch it with him.

16. 20% of 0 is still 0.
