A lot of users identify each other by their signatures, but since I change mine all the time, I'm used to looking at peoples usernames or avatars to recognise them.

I look at their avatars and sigs. Some users I can remember by username though.

A select few I know by their usernames. Most others I recognize either their sig or avatar, depending on which one is more memorable.

Avatars mostly, I tend to not even recognize people when/if they change their avatars. There are some names that I've made a note of though :o

Avatars catch my eye if I am scrolling through a thread real fast. If I do not recognize the avatar but the person is discussing something interesting, then I just use the username.

Sigs. Avatars if I see them around enough. Sometimes it switches round, for instance, 69ANT69's avatar of Kryten is instantly recognisable.

Depends on which of the two (sig or avatar) is memorable to me, but mostly the avatar.

That's why I hate it when people change it.

I use their avatars and/or signatures. That's why I hardly ever recognise anyone's username when a banning-announcement thread comes up.

Sigs but for some users I can remember their name if I see them post a lot. It's just a whole lot easier to recognize sigs.

sigs and sometimes usernames. a lot of people's avatars look the same to me so i can't tell people apart from avatars.

It varies, some users usernames are easy to remember. Others I am only able to recognize by their sig or avatar. And there are also a few that I can recognize by the way they post.

A combination of username, signature and avatar. I usually get to know people by username so that if they change their sigs, I can still know who I'm talking to.

Avatars. I have sigs disabled here because they're too obtrusive and most of the time I really don't care about other users sigs.

I identify users by their signatures and avatars. I can identify only a handful of people by their usernames.

usually what people post often is what I remember them by, but on occasion it's their sig/avatar if it's a pop-out. bright avatars and big signatures usually get me.
