This comes from that locked thread.

Anyway I got my permit on my first try, hopefully lightning strikes twice.

It took me 2 tries to get my permit and 1 try on my license. I didn't really study for my first permit test I thought it was just going to be all common sense.

Permit first try (was it even really a try?), and license first try. I am highly suspect of anyone who doesn't get both on their first go.

I got my permit on the first try. But it took me two times to get my license.

I failed the first time becuase I missed a stop-sign in the DMV parking lot.

This. I really don't understand how so many people fail.

For the learner's permit, there isn't much of an excuse, but for the actual driving test, **** happens sometimes. One of my buddies failed because a truck blew a red and the instructor had to intervene to prevent him from colliding with the truck, thus failing him even though the truck broke the law. As for me though, I got both on the first try.

First try on both. My mother drove school buses for a living so she was pretty drill-sargaent-like when it came to driver's ed.

How do you even fail for the learner's permit? Isn't that test basically just "what does a stop sign look like?"

License system is kind of different here; Learners, restricted, full license. Got each on first attempt. Thought I failed my full license because it only went for 40 minutes instead of an hour before I drove the instructor back, turns out we just covered everything faster than usual.

Here there's no such thing as a driver's permit-you can drive after you get your license or with a licensed driving instructer(in a special car).you also have to pass a written exam(during or before taking driving classes). I passed the written exam on the 1st time and the driving test on the 3rd try(which is decent-almost nobody passes on his 1st try ).

Only once for each, I actually only missed 4 points on the drivers test. 2 points for not signaling and 2 points for driving too slow.

Here in New Zealand the licensing process is a bit different. You initially take a learners theoretical test which allows you to drive a car supervised and with learners plates displayed. After that you take a restricted practical test which allows you to drive independently but only during certain hours. Then finally you can take a practical test for your full license. Here's a play by play of my experience getting my motorcycle license. Learners attempt 1- All good I aced the theoretical test first time. Restricted attempt 1- failed to come to a full stop at a stop sign. Immediate failure. Restricted attempt 2 a few weeks later- failed to give way to a car turning right. Immediate failure. Restricted attempt 3 a year later- motorcycle failed to pass fitness standard because the indicator wasn't working. Immediate failure. Restricted attempt 4 a month later- I finally passed it with a fair amount of ease. Full license attempt 1 a year later- Passed it easily first time although I lost the assessor once. Fun fact New Zealanders are among the worst and rudest drivers in the world.

Yeah I have been nervous about getting a very pedantic teacher, though I know ultimately it is the driver though. I still don't want to catch someone on a bad day.

I passed my permit test on the first try. But I was close to failing (one more question wrong would have been a fail). I was wondering before I took it why so many people were failing it, but once I took it, I noticed. I live in NC, and the county (who provided driver's ed) were cutting back and didn't provide any of the books you were supposed to study. The actual class was a joke too. The class was in the computer labs, which was a stupid idea because everyone, even the teacher, would just sit at their computers playing games. The teacher was the one who told us how to avoid the school's internet filter. The teacher would just play a movie the whole time and everyone passed. There were two tests we had to take. One was the basic "what sign is this," but the other was a more complicated one. You had to get 20/25 right. I thought it was going to be really easy, but it was hard. They gave questions that weren't general knowledge, and I assume were in the books that they couldn't afford :/. "Where must a person go to get their license back after getting a DUI?" and questions like that. I can assure you that most 15 year olds do not know the answer to that, nor do they care.

Well I am 22 going on 23 and have never even got my permit. Live in Seattle with a pretty awesome public transportation system so never felt the urge to drive. Guess in the long run I am helping out the planet which makes me feel better :) If its any consolation my girlfriend does drive though since she has to go to work like 30 minutes away.

I guess the buses are alright here. I use them to get most places, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's "awesome" :P I guess Sound Transit is trying to expand light rail, but that might take a while.

Just once. Exam was a cakewalk. At the driving test, the person who examined me was surprised that I not only passed, but scored very well, because I didn't have any driving ed beforehand. I think she was expecting to fail me.

Wow what is your main problem with the test.

Questions that ask for specific numbers as answers, and occasionally a common sense fail. :P
