how to save yourself if your drowning?

If no one's around and I drown for some reason, I'm probably already dead, and so I'm at a bit of a disadvantage if my goal is to save myself.

However, the person who I was quoting stated that if you drown, you are ALREADY dead. And that is incorrect, regardless of if there is anyone there to save you.

Drowning precedes death. Death does not precede drowning, and the two do not occur simultaneously. You drown, THEN you die. And if you are drowning, then you are NOT already dead, because dead people don't drown.
