Lets say 15 years down the line scientists have the technology and resources to create artificial humans from exisiting DNA of dead humans.

A vote is taking place for a bill which would legalise it in your country. Humans who have once died will be able to walk this planet once again, however this will not be a cheap process and there will be limitations put in place on which humans will be able to live again (No criminals etc.)

Would you vote in favour, or against this bill, and what are your reasons for your vote?

I'd create an army of clones in a hidden bunker in the Antarctic and live forever.

It wouldn't be like the exact same person was alive, their life experiences would be entirely different and that would have an effect on their personality. I'd vote no. It's just creepy for one thing, and I imagine people would clone themselves in case they needed compatible donor organs just in case. And what do we need clones for anyway,it's not like there's a shortage of regular people. I guess you could clone a bunch fo Einstein's and put them to work on quantum physics or something. That would probably be useful. Assuming these clones actually wanted to work on that and didn't need to be forced to.

No to fully completed clones. However yes to clone organs, perhaps even limbs if possible, to help the injuried and sick people.

On one hand the science behind cloning sounds fascinating to me, I'd have to hear some details on how we would treat these clones and what we would do with them if we make them.

It is creepy sure, but I don't see any harm in it. Also I would be willing to bet that a machine would be cheaper and better in almost all scenarios.

No. There would be too many issues. Since they're not born human beings issues would arise if they have human rights. There would be clone rights and plus it would be creepy seeing someone walk past you unsure if that was a human or a clone.

on the surface one would think no harm in it. but c'mon people we know damn well there is gonna be some unforseen consequences.

Much better then cloning a whole human is the possiblity of cloning/creating organs for people who need transplants.

At least in that case one can work out the kinks and issues that will rise with a single organ, rather then deal with issues a concsious living breathing human being is possibly going to have to deal with.

Sure, but cloning DNA is nerfed. When you clone someone/something it's the age of the original plus it's own actual age. For example. Cloning a cow that's five. When you clone that cow the DNA at embryo state is already five years old.

Embryos have DNA, Just clone something as soon as it becomes possible to clone it.

Even at the soonest possible state, the clone has the DNA age of the original.

So you could only clone one person/thing as soon as it is being conceived.

For example.

You couldn't clone me because when the clone turns 18 his DNA will be twice that.

The downside is you couldn't clone lets say 'alpha men' men who are genetically gifted in athletic activity(soldiers).

Because when the person is 25 they have the age of a much older person.

uhh what? Their DNA is just the instructions for their form.. Dont you start suggesting that if you cloned something at 30, that when the clone is born it will have the muscles of a 30 year old.

No, he won't have bone/muscle structure of a (60 year old) if you clone him at 30, but he'll have the structural DNA of a 60 year old at the age of 30.

Remeber DNA changes overtime, some people have cancer in their DNA, your DNA might say "Ok, at age 40 you'll get cancer", so the clone will get cancer at a much sooner rate compared to the original.

That response wasn't target towards you, sorry for the confusion.

Regarding 'Sigh, but at birth the animal has yet to develop.' DNA already predetermines a lot of things, like illness, allergies, weight, etc...

No, we'll have enough population problems by that time as it would be...

And anyway, there is no use in cloning someone, you wont get the same results twice... well, probably not... Like, Resurrect Albert Einstein! It's not really Einstein himself, it's just an identical twin, and who's to say he'll love physics and pursue it, or Mozart with music...
