[QUOTE="EMOEVOLUTION"]But doing what's easy certainly isn't an act of strength.JN_Fenrir
It also isn't certainly an act of weakness. Often, it just makes sense.

its called efficiency. There is no shame in getting the most return out of something for the smallest effort.

the real tests come in times of controversy; if youre pushed to the limit, need to meet a short deadline...those are signs of strength. Many people do turn to drugs to either escape from these pressures, or help them cope.

but giving 110%, or even 100%, all the time is just silly.

nice off-topic thread. cant say i totally agree with the TC, but still good topic. I've thought of this myself at times. I can admit that I need the help of a few beers at a party to "loosen-up." but going to a party and staying sober or parties with ALL SOBER people are BORING in comparison. I cant say about drug use, because I havent done drugs, but with alcohol and caffeine, I agree. but hey I feel being happy is the most important thing to me (selfish yes) I would rather be happy than not drink caffeine or alcohol.

In this modern world where 85% of people are addicted to a drug in some way, I guess you can be called strong. I stopped drinking coke/pepsi 6 months ago, I still drink tea occasionally though, sometimes a 200 ml glass but on other days when I'm in a hurry I drink it in this very tiny glass, only 50 ml, I don't really plan on removing it so I'm not sure if it's a sign of weakness or just normal

Is Lipton yellow label tea healthy? I always considered unhealthy because I put plenty of sugar in (2 lumps) and there's much more healthier teas out there, and they can induce relaxing moods much like drugs can even though they aren't drugs themselves.

I think people do drugs for a number of reasons:

- They aren't happy with their current state of life

-Preer Pressure

-Emotional Issues

There are more i'm sure..i just can't think of them :x..

Xx_Hopeless_xX

Lol. I am very happy with my life. I have no peer pressure because I do it by myself. I also have no emotional issues at all. I just like to smoke weed every now and then

I see sarcasm in this post, correct me if I'm wrong. But there's nothing to "manning-out" weaknesses. You aren't born with these weaknesses, "weak" drug users just "suck at life" for the lack of better words. Instead of doing drugs you could maybe start exercising more, eating healthier food or maybe get more sleep at night amongst other methods. But they choose to stick with drugs.

Yeah, that's what I thought, are popular brands ever healthy? :P I've become more health concious the past year, so I've removed most my bad eating/drinking habits like eating at fast food restaurants, drinking pepsi amongst other things. But I still need to kill off drinking unhealthy teas that make you're teeth yellow and pre-packaged foods that make you want to puke 2 hours later. >.>

You really have no idea why somebody would smoke weed? How about because it feels amazing.... And about tea, I strongly recommend green tea with spearmint and a wee bit o' honey. I use "Twinings" brand tea leaves, home-grown mint, and honey that is either store-bought or some delicious stuff that my friend gets from his own beehives. Makes for a perfect morning but it's great at virtually any time of day.

Of course drugs are a sign of weakness. They assist the body in doing things it is having trouble doing on its own. We use aspirin to reduce the effects of vasoconstriction (headaches). We use vaccines, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, antivirals and antifungals to help our bodies fight infections they can't fight on their own. We use diuretics to force fluids from our system that aren't being filtered out quickly enough. Psychoactive drugs are no different. They assist the brain in creating chemical reactions and responses (i.e. moods and feelings) it is having trouble creating on its own. And yes, using drugs for fun falls under that category. It is a sign of weakness; not necessarily of weakness in character, but of being weakened by a tough or depressing situation (such as boredom). And so people take drugs to help them get through it. The question is, what's so terrible about having weaknesses? We're humans. We are a mortal species on this planet, prone to all kinds of ailments. Of course we have weaknesses. Why is it so hard for people to admit that?JN_Fenrir

Yeah thats what I was thinking about. I wanted to share my opinions and see different views people have on this. But mostly it was just people saying how they do it because they like it. Which is not always true as it is said by delusional people too. I was just sharing my opinion on that aspect of drug use. THere was no need for people to go so defensive. If you think you use drugs safely and just because you like the feeling I really don't give a sh**. If you use them dangerously and are just being delusional I don't give a sh** either. That WAS NOT the purpose of this thread, it was more of a philosophical debate about subconscious effects and wants of drugs and also conscious psychology of drug use.

That's not necessarily the reason all the time, maybe sometimes. I've experimented with psychedelics a few times after researching its effects and they happened to be the most significant spiritual experiences of my life. You really can't understand life and reality until you go through a drug trip, I think at least. Not saying it's necessary or trying to inspire anyone to do it, but it has been a worthwhile experience for me. for alcohol, it's simply a tool to help you have fun. What's more fun than being around a few friends drunk, talking to girls, and forgetting about life's worries for a night?

I think they are for bettering the weaknesses you haven't bothered dealing with. Drinking a couple of beers in the club or at a party to lower your self-consciousness or fear of embarassment is like admitting you aren't strong or psychologically well developed enough to do it themselves. People who need caffeine in the morning rely on the coffe to get them awake, people who need to get some drugs like mariyuana to relax or calm down are saying they can't do it themselves.

But I am not saying this is bad, I mean medicines are drugs and if we didn't take them a lot would die. But it is still an admission of weakness whether you like it or not. Also it sometimes says that you can't be bothered to work on your own flaws but would rather, say get a bit drunk, to become more sociable instead of trying to work out why you are socially awkward.

I can see why you would think this but I assure you, this is not always the case. It's kind of like, I can either chill.... or chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilllllllllllllll. Know what I'm sayin?

Ugh..."feel amazing" doesn't mean that drugs make you some super-optimist with a smile plastered to their face. A high is physical sensation, a "feeling" that you WILL NOT EXPERIENCE without the use of a drug. It's sort of like an orgasm, only it comes in different...flavors. Getting high on any drug is WAY more than just a mood lift, but if you've never experienced it you just won't understand.

I am happier with my achievements and when I make myself into a better person. He gets more enjoyment out of getting high. I respect our differences. I mean I play videogames; beating a videogame is an achievement and thats what I go for more than getting high. Even if it is basically as useless for a way to spend your free time...

That risk only comes with some substances, and even the addictive ones can be used safely in moderation. Believe me, it IS possible to try a hard drug like heroin just once. That risk of addiction is, in my opinion, where the question of "weakness" comes in. People who are weak have no control and cannot keep their substance use in check develop serious addictions, but those who exercise moderation and have strong willpower shouldn't have problems with any drug.

A high is physical sensation, a "feeling" that you WILL NOT EXPERIENCE without the use of a drug. It's sort of like an orgasm, only it comes in different...flavors. Getting high on any drug is WAY more than just a mood lift, but if you've never experienced it you just won't understand. lyeti

With it comes the risk of addiction...is it really worth it..:|?

I am happier with my achievements and when I make myself into a better person. He gets more enjoyment out of getting high. I respect our differences. I mean I play videogames; beating a videogame is an achievement and thats what I go for more than getting high. Even if it is basically as useless for a way to spend your free time...

Did I say I get more enjoyment out of getting high? Why is it so black and white for you people? It's possible for someone to both use drugs and be successful and happy. At least you respect the fact that both forms of entertainment are useless, props to you for not trying to take some moral high ground and claim your own way of wasting time is better than anyone else's :D

Well, whatever works for you then...personally i think i'd rather stay away from them..:x

Out of the ten people I know. 9 are addicted to it and its ruining their lives. Perhaps not physically but mentally yes. You all seem to think pot is somekind of harmless drug. Its not, its a drug and because its a drug that makes you feel good, moderation is harder. Its dangerous, except you lumped it into the smoking and alchohol category. Alchohol and smoking ruin your life physically, pot does it through your mind.

I think this statement nicely illustrates the misinformation that exists about drugs, specifically the fact that they are often lumped into the same category. Some drugs, such as crystal meth, heroin or cocaine, are extremely chemically addictive. They create "holes" in your body's chemistry which can eventually only be "fixed" with further use of the drug. Other drugs, such as cannabis, mushrooms or LSD, only work to alter your body's chemistry temporarily, which makes them no more addictive than coffee, sex or chocolate. For these drugs, addiction is only a "risk" if the person taking the drug has an tendency towards addiction. I mean, there are plenty of internet addicts out there. Is the internet worth it?

When someone says that, it doesn't literally mean that without drugs life is some bleak, miserable existence. It just means that you only get one life, and there are substances available that allow you to feel certain sensations that you would otherwise never experience, so one may feel inclined to take advantages of those substances to feel those different highs. We're both enjoyling life just fine, the difference is that sometimes I like to look at things through a different lens, so to speak. Not beacuse I am trying to escape, but because it's something different, something fun.

Yeah but an internet addict is much less likely to cause trouble to other people or get killed in accidents...

I have only seen the bad side of these drugs. I can never accept them because it would be immoral for me to do so. I don't care about the safe users, the people who are affected or peer pressured to take these drugs when they can't handle it are the only people I care about in this issue. You might be happy with it, yet another person throws their life down the drain for it. look at it from this theoretical point of view: if there were no drugs, we could improve the lives of a minority massively while slightly disconveniencing the lives of another minority. Here is an idea I had: "I suggest maybe having a legal equivalent to 19th century opium places. Basically a pub that gives marijuana smokers a place to relax and smoke in peace. Of course there wouldn't be that many of these establishments and they will be under tight restrictions to minimize chances of criminal connections and stop people from buying from immoral organisations that I described in my other thread on this." I would be fine with that because it doesn't interfere with the runnings of society, but at the moment it does...

People who need caffeine in the morning rely on the coffee to get them awake, people who need to get some drugs like mariyuana to relax or calm down are saying they can't do it themseves. lyeti
I drink Coffee in the morning cause I enjoy it, I've gone without before and I'm able to wake up just fine without it - aside from the widthdrawl headaches for the first couple days. And you'd be surprised whats been said about the health benifits of coffee.
