so, here's the story. as embarassing as it sounds, i'm telling this story because i need help.

so, i was listening to my ipod while i was peeing. then, i accidently dropped my ipod in the toilet and i took it out as soon as possible. since it had a case, it didn't look like it was completely broken, as an image came up in my ipod saying that there's a problem. however, since it fell on my pee, i felt very nasty about it. so, i cleaned it with windex, but i was satisfied with it. so i put soap on it and washed it with water. i only did that because i had a warranty and i thought it would cover it and everything would be okay. so after few days, i wentto bestbuy. i had a 3 year warranty (BestBuy Performace Service Plan)for my ipod and i paid 50 dollars for it. it's been a good year and a half since i bought my ipod video.

so, when i went to the best buy, i went straight to the customer service. the customer service person did not seem friendly at all and i really hated that, fearing that she wouldn't really try to help me. so i told her that i dropped my ipod in the water and that it stopped working. then she says that there's nothing they could do about it. first of all, the plan doesn't cover water damage, and she also said that it would be impossible to fix it if it's water damaged. she also added that she could send it to apple, and they would examine it. then, as soon as apple finds out that it's water damaged, they won't fix it and charge me just for looking at the ipod. so i was like that's bull****. she also said that even if i went tothe apple store, the workers there would've said the same exact thing. anyways,i just left, thinking that it would be impossible to get my ipod back. i believed what she said was true, but i still had doubts as she didn't really look friendly at her and she looked very bothered and annoyed by my situation.

also, my friend told me that his friend dropped his ipod on a soda and it stopped working. so he let his ipod dry and sent it back to either bestbuy or apple (i'm not sure) and they fixed it. if it was bestbuy that fixed it, then i would be pissed. so anyways, i was wondering if it was to fix an ipod that's water damaged. also, if i didn't tell the customer person guy that it was water damaged, do you think they would have done something about it. if i were to go again and a different person was there, should i hide the fact that it was water damaged and what other excuses should i give? i really need help guys as i don't want to drop another 250 on a brand new ipod video. your help would be really appreciated. so is it really impossible to fix a water damaged ipod?

Warranties do not cover damages caused by carelessness. The only warranties that do are unlimited lifetime, which are rare.

I'm afraid there's no legal thing you can do.

Sorry, you're just going to have to accept the loss. Very rarely is anything protected from water damage. Warranties are meant to cover internal failures, not careless accidents. Also, don't censor bypass.

I would. The girl told you they won't help you if it's water damaged so I'd go back there and say that you turned you iPod on one day and it just stopped working. If they find out you lied then what is the big deal, their not gonna spank you.

Heres what you need to do:

1. Go to a different BesBuy, your warranty is good at all BestBuy's around the country.
2. Go to customer service and ask for a replacement.
3. When they ask you what happened, don't tell them that you dropped it in your piss.
Tell them that you were just listening to it and it just suddenly stopped working.
3. They'll have no reason not to give you a replacement.

Thats all you have to do.

Good luck, My 60 gb ipod was broken when I bought it at Circuit City, with the extra (purchased) warranty and I couldn't get the store to cooperate. I had better luck dealing directly through apple and finally got it replaced.

My idea: Let it dry a bit, take it back to to best buy and make something up as long as is not related to water or something the warranty says on it (read the warranty papers they give you for a better idea) If that doesn't work, take it to Wal-Mart and tell them you lost/don't have the receipt, they'll take it back.

Assuming you have home insurance, it might be covered under your insurance? Thats just a suggestion, I'm not entirely sure. It probably depends how good your cover is.

No dice. They'll dissect it and see the water damage inside. Give it a week or so and see if it's dried out and will restart.

Well, I would go back when that woman is not there and not tell them what happened. That was your first mistake. Also look at the warranty you bought, does it cover accidental damage? They have two plans, one that does and one that doesnt. If yours does then it doesnt matter if it is water damage, just take it back. Also, your warrant should not be for fixing since it is not a comuter or major appliance, it should be a replacement warranty, so go back and just say it stopped working and a get a new ipod.

This happend to my cellphone once....

Here's what you do...chances are, the problem with the ipod is that you need a new battery, that will more than likely fix it. If I were you, I'd wait a week or two, let the water completely dry. Then go to a bestbuy and say your ipod stopped working, that you have a warranty, and want it either fixed or replaced. If they tell you ANYTHING but "yes," throw a big fit and start talking really loud. Saying things like "I will NEVER shop here ever again and tell all my friends to avoid your store" are good lines. Trust me, if you cause a big enough seen, not only will they replace the ipod for you, they will probably give you some FREE things. You can do this and be happy with your new ipod and free accessories, or you can sit around with a dead ipod and a hole in your wallet (you'll have to buy a new one).

Heh, iPod in the bathroom. :) Yeah, you're screwed. :(

Ever since I was 15 and my Star Wars hat fell off my head into the toilet while I was still pissing I don't take anything remotely valuable into the bathroom. Now I'm really glad of that. I'd beat the **** out of myself if I lost an iPod that way.

This funny because professionally engineered electronics should not be affected by water. That's why most electronics will operate in a huricane. I would assume an Ipod would have a GFI or some other type current regulator that acts as a circuit breaker to keep the device from overloading or shorting when exposed to water.

Don't have an Ipod, but it sound like a cheap piece junk. Not and electronic marvel. If properly engineered electronic devices couldn't be used in water seals wouldn't using PDAs and Laptops and the radio in my shower would have shorted out by now.

yeah as long as he didn't try and turn it on while it was still wet, he should be okay. Just let it dry first. Might have to replace the battery.

valuable things and the bathroom usually dont mix good. when my dad dropped his cell in the toliet he used a blow dryer to dry the inside but make sure you hold down that cool button so you dont melt it by accient.
